Early autumn has arrived, and the weather is getting cooler.

Aunt Wang went out to buy groceries early in the morning, saying she would cook a big birthday dinner for Wen Li that evening.

Wen Li came downstairs in the afternoon and heard the sound of a password being entered at the door, but the door did not open for a long time.

Could it be that Aunt Wang had too many things in her hands? Wen Li thought to herself, and slowly walked over, supporting her waist.

As soon as the door opened, He Yanxi and Wen Li looked at each other.

"Hello, is this Liang Chaoxu's house?" He Yanxi looked at the completely unfamiliar woman in front of her and began to wonder if she had come to the wrong place.

Wen Li nodded: "This is Mr. Liang's home."

"Who are you?" He Yanxi looked at Wen Li with curiosity. Her casual clothes clearly indicated that she had a close relationship with the owner of the house.

"My surname is Wen, and I am Mr. Liang's... beneficiary." Wen Li searched her mind for a suitable word to answer.

He Yanxi nodded with a hint of doubt, then smiled and extended her hand to Wen Li: "Hello, Miss Wen. My name is He Yanxi, and I'm a good friend of Liang Chaoxu."

"Hello, Miss He." Wen Li released her hand from He Yanxi's waist, shook hands with her, and smiled faintly.

No sooner had she finished speaking than Aunt Wang returned carrying large and small bags of groceries.

Upon seeing He Yanxi, Aunt Wang smiled and asked, "Miss He, when did you return to Jingzhou?"

"Yesterday." He Yanxi smiled and walked into the house with Aunt Wang. "Aunt Wang, when is Liang Chaoxu coming back?"

"Sir should be home early today." Aunt Wang put the groceries she bought in the kitchen. "Miss He, please sit down and rest for a while. I'll get you a glass of water."

"Okay." He Yanxi sat down on the sofa, only to notice Wen Li slowly walking towards them, supporting her back. She hesitated before asking, "Miss Wen, are you feeling unwell?"

"I hurt my back a while ago," Wen Li said, and sat down on the sofa.

He Yanxi pursed her lips and didn't ask any further questions.

At that moment, there was another noise at the door, and the two people on the sofa turned their heads to look.

Upon seeing that it was Liang Chaoxu, He Yanxi immediately stood up happily, walked over and took the bouquet from his hand: "You've thought of everything so thoroughly, you even bought flowers."

"What?" Liang Chaoxu asked without looking up as he changed his shoes.

He Yanxi lowered her head to smell the flowers and slowly said, "My grandma wants you to come over for dinner tonight. Didn't I just tell you on the phone?"

Aunt Wang walked to the sofa with her water glass. Hearing this, she subconsciously turned to look at Wen Li. The latter was replying to a message with her head down, not even lifting her eyelids.

"Is everyone here?" Liang Chaoxu asked, his gaze passing over He Yanxi and landing on Wen Li. He had originally left work early to come home and celebrate her birthday.

"Yes." He Yanxi said, carrying the flowers back to the sofa, placing the bouquet on the coffee table, and taking a sip of water from Aunt Wang's glass.

"And Grandpa Jiang will be coming too. My grandma said you know a lot about aviation and fighter jets, so she insisted that you go and keep Grandpa Jiang company."

Liang Chaoxu sighed softly. Every year, the gatherings of the major families would last until late at night. By the time he returned from the He family, Wen Li's birthday had long passed.

"Then you go back first, I'll be there in a bit," Liang Chaoxu said to He Yanxi.

"What?" He Yanxi turned to look at him, her brows furrowed slightly. "I came here specifically to find you. Are you going to let me go back alone?"

Liang Chaoxu walked towards the stairwell: "I need to have a short meeting first, then take a shower and change, and only then will I leave. Are you sure you want to wait?"

He Yanxi was somewhat speechless: "Is two hours enough?"

"Whatever you want, wait if you want." Liang Chaoxu said, then stepped onto the stairs. After going up two steps, he stopped and turned to look at Wen Li, who had remained silent.

"Wen Li, how long have you been sitting?"

Wen Li looked up, somewhat bewildered: "I just sat down, what's wrong?"

"It's nothing, just reminding you to try not to sit for too long." Liang Chaoxu had to abandon his plan and turned to continue upstairs.

Wen Li glanced at the person who had disappeared around the corner of the stairs, then lowered her head to reply to Jiang You's message.

He Yanxi looked at Wen Li, having some guesses in her mind, but didn't say anything. She had grown up in aristocratic circles and had seen too many things.

It is said that the eldest brother of the Jiang family once had a crush on a girl he sponsored.

Although the girl was outstanding in both appearance and ability, the elite families in this circle valued matching social status and sharing benefits.

The two could only end up going their separate ways.

Thinking of this, He Yanxi glanced at Wen Li again. Her features were exquisite, and her eyes sparkled. She was indeed quite beautiful.

I wonder if Uncle Liang and Aunt Qin know that their usually clueless son is actually keeping a mistress?

Or, I could... at the banquet tonight...

"Miss He?" Wen Li noticed He Yanxi's gaze, turned to look at her, and called her twice.

"Huh?" He Yanxi snapped out of her daze and immediately realized she had lost her composure. She smiled apologetically at Wen Li, "No, I was just spacing out."

Wen Li smiled and shook her head: "It's nothing."

"Miss Wen, why don't you go upstairs and lie down for a while? Otherwise your back will give out." Aunt Wang came over to remind Wen Li.

"Okay, otherwise it'll be awkward sitting here with He Yanxi." Wen Li thought to herself, then stood up, holding onto the sofa armrest, and slowly went upstairs.

Pushing open the door to the master bedroom, I heard rustling sounds coming from the walk-in closet.

Wen Li immediately realized that Liang Chaoxu was probably changing clothes inside. So she subconsciously turned around to leave to avoid embarrassment.

"If your back is bad, don't run around like that. I just came to find a new shirt, I didn't change my clothes." Liang Chaoxu's voice sounded behind me, a little hoarse.

Wen Li turned her head and saw that his hair was slightly damp and messy, and he was wearing a simple white T-shirt and black sports shorts, just like when she first met him.

Liang Chaoxu walked to Wen Li's side and reached out to support her arm: "Let me help you to the bedside."

His fresh, clean scent wafted over her instantly; it smelled wonderful. A strange thought popped into Wen Li's head: she wanted to ask him what kind of shower gel he used.

The thought flashed through her mind, and Wen Li pulled her arm away, supporting her waist as she walked over herself: "No need, I can walk by myself now."

Liang Chaoxu stood at the door looking at Wen Li, his arm still in the position of supporting her, his eyes gradually dimming.

A moment later, he whispered his congratulations: "Happy birthday, Wen Li."

Wen Li froze as she sat on the bed, turning to look at him. Their eyes met, and suddenly, for no apparent reason, they fell silent.

Liang Chaoxu looked away first: "That bouquet of flowers was for you. Your birthday present should arrive in a little while; Aunt Wang will sign for it then."

Wen Li averted her gaze and nodded gently in thanks, "Thank you, Mr. Liang."

"You're welcome."

Liang Chaoxu didn't want to hear Wen Li thank him frequently. Because that would mean that she still considered him a stranger in her heart.

He didn't want it to be like this, and he didn't like it.

He and she had spent two months and eight days together like friends, and now he has no desire to return to that realm of strangers.
