Apocalypse: I can control zombies

Chapter 91 The Truth About "The Soldier"

Chapter 91 The Truth About "The Soldier"

At this time, the other survivors who had been rescued had dragged their belongings down to the first floor and gathered in the open space at the entrance of the building.

Including the last survivor brought down from the 15th floor, a total of 13 people were rescued from this apartment building. There were elderly people, children, young couples, and middle-aged people living alone.

They stood at the entrance of the building, looking at the several fully armed zombies around them, their expressions a mixture of relief and tension.

Behind the group, several large, strong zombies were dragging four other zombies bound together with nylon ropes—all of whom were large, strong zombies captured during the corridor cleanup.

Lu Chen glanced at his watch; it had taken him exactly half an hour to clean this apartment building.

Meanwhile, at roughly the same time, Shen Qingci led her team out from Building 5.

Behind her followed 11 zombies and a large group of survivors, with the zombie horde dragging several captured prey at the very end.

One Iron Pillar-class, two Big Strong-class.

After Shen Qingci walked over, he pointed to the iron pillar and asked, "Should we change it now or go back to change it?"

"Change now." Lu Chen stepped forward, selected a large zombie in the team, tied it up, and then released it from control.

Then he reached out and pressed his hand on the waist of the iron pillar-level zombie, activated his superpower, and completed the control after 5 seconds.

Ning Tieshan and Zhao Yongqiang immediately stepped forward and quickly removed the equipment from the replaced Dazhuang-class beast, then replaced it with the equipment from the newly recruited Tiezhu-class beast.

The strongmen who were replaced were not killed, but put into the reserve team.

At this point, Lu Chen's Iron Pillar-level zombies had increased to nine.

The survivors who had just been rescued stared blankly at the scene.

They had vaguely sensed that these exceptionally strong "soldiers" were behaving strangely; their gait was too stiff, their necks too mechanical when they turned their heads, and when they stood motionless in the corridor, they didn't even breathe.

Seeing this scene with their own eyes, they finally realized that these "soldiers" wearing military combat uniforms, carrying heavy cold weapons, and who had been cutting down zombies downstairs like they were melons, were actually all zombies.

This left many people both terrified and secretly marveling at the terrifying power of Lu Chen's abilities.

An ability that allows a superhuman to control dozens of zombies, dress them in combat suits, equip them with weapons, and form an army is simply absurd in the post-apocalyptic world.

Lu Chen was no longer surprised by the astonished looks from the survivors.

From yesterday until now, every time a new batch of survivors is rescued, they go through the same psychological process.

He was more concerned about something else now: how was the zombie cat doing?

To ensure safety, Lu Chen kept the zombie cat next to the elite zombie.

The elite zombie was his strongest fighting force. With it watching over him, even if the cat recovered, it wouldn't be able to cause any trouble. So the zombie cat followed Shen Qingci's team.

Shen Qingci also didn't forget the cat.

While cleaning up the first floor of Building 5, the first thing she did was to have the elite zombie pry open the doors of two empty rooms, take out a few pieces of pork that were already rotten from the refrigerator, and throw them to the zombie cat.

The other animal naturally devoured the food. It had been shot through the abdomen and was losing a lot of blood. Its body desperately needed energy to repair the damage.

Zombified creatures, given enough food, recover at a rate far exceeding that of normal creatures.

Only half an hour had passed when Lu Chen squatted down again to check the zombie cat's wounds.

The fist-sized gunshot wound on its abdomen had healed nearly halfway—the flesh around the wound was no longer turned outwards, but had closed up, covered with a layer of newly formed grayish-black skin tissue.

Through the not-yet-completely-closed wound, one could see the internal organs. All organs had completely stopped bleeding, and the surface tear was covered by a thin, transparent membrane, which was slowly regenerating and repairing itself.

At this rate of healing, it should be almost fully healed in about half an hour.

After reaching this conclusion, Lu Chen couldn't help but secretly click his tongue in amazement once again.

Who wouldn't want such a terrifying recovery speed?

Others may not have had the chance, but he has a meteorite imprint.

After strengthening his defenses at noon, his skin was cut shallowly by a fruit knife, and it almost healed in less than half an hour. After a few more enhancements, his recovery speed might actually reach the level of this zombie cat.

After checking the zombie cat's wounds, Lu Chen stood up and clapped his hands to draw the attention of all the survivors present.

"Please leave your luggage here for now and rest. We still need to go and rescue the remaining apartment buildings. Once the entire Cuizhu Garden area has been rescued, we will proceed with the evacuation."

Upon hearing Lu Chen's words, the survivors present immediately became somewhat agitated.

They looked around nervously, even though they had just witnessed the zombies in the neighborhood being slaughtered as easily as cutting melons and vegetables.

But I still felt uneasy about being left in the open field with no walls around me.

A bold middle-aged man stepped forward and asked, "Wouldn't it be unsafe to leave us here?"

What if zombies come?

"It's alright. I'll leave a few zombies behind to protect you." Lu Chen said, selecting one Iron Pillar-level zombie and two others from the group.

Only a few large, strong zombies were placed on either side of the unit entrance.

He turned to Wei Dong and said, "You stay here too. Use the drone to continuously monitor the surrounding area. If you find anything unusual, report it immediately via walkie-talkie."

"Understood." Wei Dong immediately took the reconnaissance drone out of his backpack, unfolded its rotor arms, and found an open location to begin takeoff preparations.

The remaining survivors, upon hearing this arrangement and glancing at the three fully armed zombies guarding the door, finally felt relieved.

Some people laid their suitcases down and sat on them as stools, some leaned against the wall at the entrance of the building and breathed a sigh of relief, and others took out half a bottle of mineral water from their backpacks and sipped it slowly.

Lu Chen and Shen Qingci split up again. He led his team to Building 2, while Shen Qingci led her team to Building 6.

The process was the same as before: clear the corridors, clear the fire exits, knock on doors on each floor to lead people out, and carry luggage downstairs.

Almost every half hour or so, they would return to the rendezvous point of an apartment building with a group of survivors and a few captured zombies.

The rescue operation is progressing rapidly.

At the entrance of Building 1, more and more survivors gathered.

The first group of people rescued had been sitting in the open space at the entrance of the building for nearly an hour. Wei Dong's drone kept hovering overhead, and the three fully armed zombies stood guard at the entrance like statues, but nothing happened.

This calm itself was the best tranquilizer—the survivors, who were initially somewhat uneasy, gradually relaxed and began to chat in twos and threes.

Some people were discussing what kind of room they would be assigned after arriving at Xiangyang Community, some were speculating about the food at the base, and others were quietly exchanging the broadcast information they had heard during their confinement.
