Chapter 6 The Corpse-Stitching Master and the City God Temple
"There's no one outside, but the door is open, so it must be the person inside!"
Li Feng thought to himself, watching the incense burning in front of him without changing, but seeing the color change of the candle in the corner, he instantly understood.
The Corpse Master inside is ordering people around!
Li Feng seemed to be in no hurry. He calmly tugged at the unbroken thread, and the corpses on the large communal bed, who were about to straighten up, collapsed and piled up in a heap.
Looking closer, you can see that the faces of these corpses are turning blue and purple, and large blisters have swollen out of their throats, indicating that they are choking on their anger.
Li Feng wasn't in a hurry. He didn't know who was staying up so late at night, having the time to bother him and disturb the peace of the corpses.
But since he was holding this thread in his hand, it was connected to the tendons of the corpses. As long as Li Feng didn't let go, they would never be able to get close to him.
The strange kowtowing sounds outside continued. Li Feng noticed that things were getting increasingly strange. These corpses no longer resembled humans, and the ground was covered in water stains, which were sticky and somewhat ominous.
If he delayed any longer, Li Feng suspected that these corpses would all turn into the shape of that big cauldron. He thought that if his master, who could swallow him whole back then, had come in a group like this, he would surely be devoured alive.
So he simply ran along the edge inside the door, pulling on the tendons of the corpses and walking back and forth. As long as the corpses remained here, by the time dawn broke, even the fiercest evil creatures would be wiped out.
After listening for a while, the kowtowing outside showed no sign of stopping; on the contrary, it grew louder and louder, like a death knell chasing after Li Feng. The corpses seemed to become even more delighted to hear it.
After burning only one incense stick, Li Feng realized something was wrong. His body was too weak. He had been busy day and night, and running around for so long was simply too much for him.
Before he could catch his breath, he stumbled and fell to the ground. The thread snapped with a snap. In that life-or-death moment, Li Feng threw up a handful of incense ash and rushed it towards the corpses.
When it really matters, the local earth god still comes in handy!
Li Feng couldn't help but sigh inwardly. Taking advantage of the moment when the corpses were being pulled back, he hurriedly ran outside, set up a bewitching incense array, and followed the outside to find the enemy who was kowtowing.
Just as he reached the entrance of the temple, he saw a disheveled old woman singing a tune. When she saw Li Feng come out, she suddenly took a step and crashed into the stone guardian at the entrance of the temple.
With a crash, his head was smashed out, spilling dry and runny bits all over the ground, staining the stone guardian stone in front of the door with its filth.
Li Feng cried out in alarm. Before, he could say that he had only broken a hole in the temple to ward off evil spirits, but now he had directly lifted the door open, waiting for a stranger to enter, and then it would be all over.
Li Feng had listened carefully to the tune the old woman was singing, and he figured it was some kind of evil method that would bring him more trouble.
Li Feng had no other choice but to take out incense ash to cover his face first, and then go back to the main hall to invite the local earth god. Little did he expect that before he even reached the main hall, he almost bumped into those corpse gods who rushed out.
In an instant, chaos erupted in the temple. Evil spirits from outside tried to break through the gate, and the corpse god inside tried to bite people.
Caught in the middle, Li Feng was only focused on running for his life. Only now did he start to complain about his predecessor's lack of skill. This situation was truly going to kill him.
"Lord Earth, save me! Lord Earth, save me!"
At this crucial moment, Li Feng no longer thought about any prayers; he only wanted to sincerely make a wish to attract the help of the local earth god. After all, it was the earth god's home, and it wouldn't be right for a bunch of evil spirits to cause trouble here if word got out.
Li Feng was thinking this when the soft ground beneath his feet gave way, and he found himself falling into the ground, where a path shone with a faint light.
Touching the fresh air, Li Feng knew that the local earth god had given him life, so he dared not linger there any longer and hurriedly climbed out of the path.
The night outside was dark and gloomy, and the sound of howling wind came from behind, as if something was following them. There was always a fog covering their vision.
Not knowing whether the local earth god would work, Li Feng took out the last bit of incense ash from his pocket and scattered it over there. Instantly, a small circle of light appeared before his eyes, illuminating the way forward, and he quickly followed it.
He didn't know how long he had walked, and he had almost finished scattering the incense ash he was holding. The more Li Feng listened to the noises behind him, the more alarmed he became.
Having no other choice, Li Feng waited until the last handful of incense ash was completely scattered. He then took a few more steps forward and heard a question.
"Are you a young monk from the temple? Come with me, this way!"
The sound came from the light ahead. Li Feng didn't dare to answer. He only saw a black horse with a glossy coat snort in front of him, and a puff of white mist rolled up as Li Feng was carried onto its back.
Suddenly, a gust of wind rushed past his ears, and the scenery changed instantly. Before half an incense stick could burn, Li Feng felt himself lightly landing on the ground. Looking around, he saw a large, lacquered red door wide open in front of him.
The plaque above reads three large characters: "City God Temple".
Good heavens! Li Feng exclaimed in disbelief. In just a short time, he had been transported to a county town a hundred miles away. This was none other than the City God Temple in Gaoyin County.
"May the Earth God be merciful! May the Earth God be merciful!"
Li Feng muttered to himself, thinking that believing in the local earth god was indeed the right thing to do. It seemed that offering incense to the earth god during the day had been effective, and he should continue to flatter the earth god more in the future.
But then I thought, maybe the local earth god realized he couldn't protect me anymore, so he simply sent me to the city god's place.
Before Li Feng could even look inside, he saw an old man dressed in simple clothes come out to greet him. He looked like a simple person, but his temperament was quite extraordinary. He thought that he must be a noble person in this City God Temple.
Before Li Feng could speak, the old man spoke first, "I heard someone shouting over the wall a long time ago, saying that the young monk in the temple had encountered trouble and they were looking for help. Fortunately, the time came. Come in quickly."
Hearing the old man's words, Li Feng understood and couldn't help but thank the local earth god again. The incense in the city god temple was naturally more abundant than that in the village temple.
Once inside, Li Feng was about to step forward to offer incense to the City God, but the old man stopped him, pointing behind Li Feng and saying, "Don't rush to worship. There are some things the City God shouldn't be concerned with."
That's a polite way of putting it, and it makes sense.
Li Feng nodded, suppressing his urge to kowtow and offer incense.
As the old man lit an incense stick and spoke, he said, "I've met your master before. He's a rare and extraordinary person. Few people in the industry can see his talent. I've met him once, so I should help him out of courtesy and reason. But as I said before, you have to rely on yourself."
