"Knock knock".

Assistant Wang tapped his knuckles lightly on the frosted glass door of the editing room, making a very soft sound.

Shen Zhiyi looked up from the densely packed timeline on the screen, her eyes still red from staying up late. Seeing that it was Assistant Wang, she managed a smile: "Assistant Wang, what brings you here?"

Her voice was a little hoarse, and she didn't even drink a sip of water while working.

Assistant Wang carried a food box from Beijing's top-ranked Cantonese restaurant, still warm from being taken out of an insulated bag. He walked in and gently placed the food box on the corner of her table, speaking softly, "Ms. Shen, Mr. Lu specially asked me to order this for you. It's all light dishes. Please eat before you get back to work."

Shen Zhiyi paused for a moment, her gaze falling on the dark green food box with the gold-stamped logo, but she looked away after only two seconds.

"I'm not very hungry, please take it back."

She was telling the truth.

Firstly, it had been two hours since dinner time, and she was so hungry that her stomach felt numb. Secondly, her mind was full of the questions Lu Zichuan had raised earlier, and she was preoccupied with scene transitions, emotions, and camera shots, so she had no interest in eating at all.

Assistant Wang looked troubled, his brows furrowed so deeply they could trap a fly: "This... Miss Shen, President Lu specifically instructed that work is work and meals are meals, they are two separate things and cannot be confused. It will be more efficient if you eat first and then make the changes."

Shen Zhiyi shook her head again, pointing to the half-eaten piece of dry toast beside her. She had grabbed it from the break room while she was talking, and the edges were already hard. "I'm really not hungry. I just ate some bread. These things don't look cheap. Mr. Lu is still busy. Why don't you take it up to him, or you can eat it for me, so it won't go to waste?"

She smiled gently, without a trace of resentment, as if she were genuinely thinking of him.

Assistant Wang has been with Lu Zichuan for almost ten years. He's seen all kinds of situations, so how could he not see that she was trying to avoid suspicion?

He sighed, sounding like a concerned old butler: "What nutrition does bread have? This was specially ordered by President Lu according to your taste, saying you prefer light dishes..."

Assistant Wang paused halfway through his sentence and didn't continue.

Shen Zhiyi unconsciously fiddled with the side button of the mouse.

Seeing how persistent Assistant Wang was, she knew he was just following orders, and refusing would only make her seem pretentious.

She sighed softly to herself before saying, "Alright then, you can put it aside, I'll eat it later."

Assistant Wang breathed a sigh of relief, placed the food box steadily within easy reach of her, and even slightly opened the lid to make it easier for her to take it: "Okay, Ms. Shen, please remember to eat. I won't bother you any longer."

Shen Zhiyi's gaze was still fixed on the screen. Upon hearing this, she simply nodded slightly: "Okay, take care."

Assistant Wang went out, but didn't leave immediately. He stood by the transparent glass window for two minutes.

The only sound in the office was the clatter of keyboards. Shen Zhiyi was buried in her worktable, her brows slightly furrowed, just like the workaholic CEO Lu upstairs.

He watched her reach for the mouse, his gaze sweeping over the food box beside him, but he didn't touch it. He just took a sip of water and buried his face back in the screen.

Assistant Wang couldn't help but sigh again before turning and walking towards the top floor.

Top floor of Jiangxing Entertainment, CEO's office.

Assistant Wang raised his hand and knocked on the heavy solid wood door.

"Enter."

Lu Zichuan's deep, steady voice came through the door, with a hint of British English at the end, a style often used in international conferences.

Assistant Wang pushed open the door and nodded to Lu Zichuan: "Mr. Lu, the meal has been delivered to Miss Shen."

Lu Zichuan was holding a multinational video conference in front of his computer. On the other end of the screen was the European branch team, who were still discussing the marketing plan for the next quarter.

Upon hearing this, his fingertips paused slightly, and he nodded gently, but his gaze did not leave the screen.

Assistant Wang did not leave immediately.

Normally, he would have quietly slipped away long ago, but today it concerned Shen Zhiyi. He had followed Lu Zichuan for ten years, how could he not see the weight this Miss Shen held in his heart? Even if President Lu didn't say it, he saw through his little thoughts clearly.

"Is there anything else?" Lu Zichuan glanced over and paused the video conference. The foreigner on the other end of the screen was still in the position of opening his mouth to speak, which looked rather comical.

Assistant Wang carefully chose his words before speaking: "Ms. Shen said she wasn't hungry and didn't want to eat. I had to persuade her quite a bit before I finally got her to leave the food container. I stood outside for a few minutes, and she kept her head down and worked without even glancing at the food container..."

Lu Zichuan understood.

He showed little expression, only nodding slightly: "Okay, I understand. You can go out now."

Assistant Wang then left.

As soon as the door closed, Lu Zichuan's gaze returned to the computer screen, but his mind was not on the meeting at all.

The subordinate opposite him was still rambling on about how comprehensive and well-thought-out his plan was, which only annoyed him. He had just thought the other party's plan was interesting.

He raised his hand, decisively interrupting the other person, his voice cold and devoid of warmth: "I'll give you five minutes to show me the core feasibility of this project, or go back and redo it."

The subordinate on the other end of the screen froze, clearly not expecting that President Lu, who had just been calm, would suddenly change his expression. He didn't dare to ask any more questions and could only hurriedly reorganize his thoughts, simplifying the core logic. Finally, he finished saying everything he needed to say at four and a half minutes.

As Lu Zichuan listened, he quickly went through the whole line of thought in his mind, and it was indeed not wrong at all, and even more substantial than those empty and pretentious packaging before.

He tapped his finger on the table and made a decision: "Okay, let's do it this way. If you do well, your year-end bonus will be doubled."

The subordinate raised an eyebrow, his mouth practically agape with delight. Just as he was about to express his gratitude, the screen on the other end went black with a "snap," giving Lu Zichuan no chance for pleasantries.

The office fell silent instantly.

Lu Zichuan leaned back in the boss's chair, his legs crossed, his fingertips unconsciously tracing the proposal that Shen Zhiyi had submitted on the table. There were still some small, neat annotations written in pencil on the margins of the pages, the handwriting thin and neat, exactly the same as in college.

He stared at the line of text, his mind a jumbled mess.

He didn't know if he had spoken too harshly that afternoon, or if he had really pushed her further away, to the point that she wouldn't even touch the food he brought her.

He was afraid that if he went there now, she would overthink things and think that he had gone back on his word, making all the previous distance between them seem like a joke... He was also afraid that if he didn't go there, she would just endure it like before, not saying anything when her stomach hurt.

He knew that although she usually seemed to say nothing, she actually had a stomach problem due to years of working overtime. It wasn't serious, and she would cover it up by eating something simple. It was okay now that she was young, but it would get worse when she got older.

After much deliberation, worry ultimately prevailed over everything else.

He picked up his suit jacket draped over the back of the chair, got up, and walked towards the door.

He has to go and take a look.

He could only feel at ease if he just stood at the door and glanced at her to make sure she had eaten.
