When Jiang Ruoxi and Ye Chen returned to Jiangcheng, things were already more serious than she had imagined.

She originally thought it was just one or two gossipy people talking behind her back in the break room, and that it would all blow over in a few days.

But as soon as the car got off the highway, Secretary Wang started calling one after another: "President Jiang, where are you? The company entrance is full of reporters, and several representatives from our partners have been waiting in the meeting room all morning."

"The board of directors, Vice President Liu and Chief Engineer Wang both called to inquire about the situation and where you were. The marketing department said that two partners have postponed the signing of new contracts, saying they want you to come out in person to explain."

"Someone even posted online, photoshopping your and Minister Ye's photos to look messy, saying that you two went to the mountains for a romantic getaway."

Jiang Ruoxi listened quietly, her expression growing increasingly indifferent until it was almost impossible to discern any emotion. She simply said, "I understand. Tell them I'll be at the company in twenty minutes."

After hanging up the phone, she turned to look at Ye Chen, who was driving.

Ye Chen, unusually, didn't have a joking expression. He kept his eyes on the road ahead and drove the car steadily and quickly.

After a few seconds, he asked, "So, should I go and clear out those people at the door?"

"No need. Let the reporters take pictures or ask questions. I want to see who's stirring up trouble." Jiang Ruoxi lowered her head, straightened her collar and hair, and took out her phone to touch up her lipstick. Her movements were swift and decisive.

Ye Chen saw her actions in the rearview mirror and secretly admired her.

The more trouble this woman encountered, the calmer she became, and her CEO-like aura was more compelling than ever.

The car stopped in front of the Jiang Group building.

Before Ye Chen could even open the door, the group of reporters swarmed around it like leeches smelling blood, their cameras, both long and short, all aimed at the car door.

Flashbulbs went off everywhere, and someone had already shoved a microphone in front of the glass window, shouting, "President Jiang, where have you been these past few days?"

"Someone photographed you and a young man going into the mountains. Could you tell us who that man is?"

"Is it true that you eloped with the company's security manager?"

Ye Chen got out of the car first and stood next to the car door, separating the reporters who were too close from the outside.

He didn't make a move, and still had a polite smile on his face, saying, "Excuse me, please move aside."

The group of reporters were so easily nudged by him that they lost their balance and stumbled back a considerable distance.

Jiang Ruoxi got out of the car, stood up straight, calmly glanced at the reporters in front of her, and then walked towards the company gate without saying a word.

Jiang Ruoxi walked at a moderate pace, her back ramrod straight.

A female reporter, unwilling to give up, caught up with her and shoved a microphone in her face: "President Jiang, can't you just give a straight answer? Does your silence mean you're admitting to the rumors of your elopement?"

Jiang Ruoxi stopped and turned to look at the female reporter, her expression as if she were looking at an intern who had asked a stupid question.

She spoke slowly, her voice not loud, but everyone present could hear her clearly: "I was on a business trip for five days, negotiating a project for a Chinese medicinal herb planting base with our partners. Ye Chen, who accompanied me, is the deputy director of the company's security department, in charge of security work. I don't know who came up with the word 'elopement,' but to be able to turn a normal business trip into an elopement, it's a pity that this person's imagination isn't used to write novels."

After Jiang Ruoxi finished speaking, she didn't look at the reporters again and walked straight into the building.

Ye Chen followed behind, and as he passed the female reporter, he whispered, "If I wanted to elope, I would have done it long ago. Why wait until now? My household registration book is still locked in the security department's drawer."

After saying that, he ignored the female reporter's expression and quickly followed Jiang Ruoxi.

In the meeting room, several representatives from the partners were drinking tea.

The tea has been changed three times, but the person is still here.

Seeing Jiang Ruoxi push the door open and come in, the group exchanged glances. One of the slightly overweight middle-aged men stood up first, his face beaming with smiles, but his eyes were filled with shrewdness as he looked her over: "President Jiang, you're finally back. There were so many rumors going around, we were really worried. As you know, the worst thing about collaborations is an unstable leadership. We've staked real money on this contract."

Jiang Ruoxi didn't rush to sit down, nor did she rush to answer.

Jiang Ruoxi walked to the center of the reception room, looked around at everyone present, and smiled faintly: "President Chen, President Liu, Boss Zhao, the fact that the three of you are sitting in my reception room waiting for me shows that you haven't been scared away by those messy rumors. Since you're here, let me make it clear: if you run away today because of a rumor, you'll have to wait in line to come back tomorrow when my project is finalized."

The three men's expressions changed drastically.

Mr. Chen was the first to react, waving his hand with a smile: "Mr. Jiang, you flatter us. How could we believe such nonsense? We just came to ask, and we feel at ease once we have a clear understanding. We can sign the contract anytime."

The other two nodded quickly, their expressions changing faster than turning the pages of a book.

Jiang Ruoxi didn't say anything more. She asked Secretary Wang to distribute the pre-prepared letters of intent for cooperation. After exchanging a few more pleasantries, she got up and left.

After leaving the meeting room, she went straight to her office, closed the door, and said to Ye Chen, "Call He Jianping and Uncle Gui here. I need to know who started this rumor and who is behind it before this afternoon."

Ye Chen abandoned his usual dawdling style and turned to walk out.

He Jianping was already waiting in the security department. As soon as he received the message, he rushed up, carrying a tablet in his arms.

The ghost servant arrived shortly after, and stood silently by the door without saying a word.

"How's the investigation going?" Jiang Ruoxi sat behind her desk, her hands folded on the table.

He Jianping handed over the tablet: "President Jiang, the first person to post on the company's intranet forum was a clerk in the administration department named Qian Xiaoduo. The post was made five days ago at noon, and it was deleted less than two hours later, but someone took a screenshot and forwarded it to the employee groups. After it spread to several large groups, it became what it is now. I had someone check Qian Xiaoduo's communication records before and after the posting time. She called Sun Guanghai from the human resources department, and later contacted an unknown number three times. The unknown number is located in the provincial capital."

"The provincial capital?" Jiang Ruoxi repeated softly, her gaze growing even colder.

"I had someone track that number," Ghost Servant said, his voice hoarse and low.

"Uncle Ghost, please tell me the details!"

"It was registered by a shell company in the provincial capital. We can't find the specific person, but the number has been in frequent contact with a former senior executive of the former Wansheng Group in the last three days. That executive is named Han Dong, who used to be Li Chengwen's confidant. After Li Chengwen ran away, Han Dong has been relying on someone, and he has been frequently traveling between the provincial capital and Jiangcheng recently."

Ye Chen narrowed his eyes and sneered, "Li Chengwen doesn't have the brains or the guts. Han Dong is just a gofer; the real mastermind is behind it all."

Jiang Ruoxi was silent for a moment, then stood up and walked to the French windows.

Jiang Ruoxi suddenly smiled, a smile as cold as frost on a winter window: "Didn't they want me to come out and explain? Fine, we'll hold a general meeting tomorrow, and I'll explain myself. Let Han Dong, Qian Xiaoduo, and everyone involved in spreading rumors come and hear how I, Jiang Ruoxi, do things."

As Ye Chen watched Jiang Ruoxi's straight back, he was already planning something else.
