Three days after the wedding, Ye Chen and Jiang Ruoxi set off.

Despite calling it a honeymoon, there weren't any elaborate plans. Ye Chen simply told Jiang Ruoxi, "I'll take you to a few places," and Jiang Ruoxi packed their luggage, locked the door, and got into the car.

Our first stop is Medicine King Valley.

Su Qinghan returned to the mountain the day after their wedding, leaving behind the words, "Take Dahuang with you when you come back, it misses you."

When Ye Chen drove to the valley entrance, Da Huang was indeed already squatting outside the mountain gate. As soon as it saw the car from afar, it rushed down, its tail swishing like a propeller.

Jiang Ruoxi got out of the car and hugged it, only to have her face covered in saliva.

Ye Chen was laughing so hard he couldn't stand up straight.

They stayed in Medicine King Valley for four days.

I sleep until I naturally wake up every day, and after eating, I go for a walk in the back mountain.

Ye Chen took Jiang Ruoxi to the Closed Water Pool and pointed out the place where he practiced the Water Breaking Technique back then.

Jiang Ruoxi squatted by the pool, cupped a handful of water in her hands, and said, "This water is so cool."

Ye Chen said, "My father used to train here too. He probably stood where you are now."

Jiang Ruoxi looked up at him, said nothing, and gently sprinkled the water in her hand back into the pool.

Water droplets fall onto the water's surface, creating ripples in concentric circles.

On the fifth day, they left Medicine King Valley and headed south.

Ye Chen was driving, Jiang Ruoxi was in the passenger seat, and Da Huang was lying down in the back seat snoring.

We walked and stopped along the way, taking pictures whenever we saw a beautiful spot, and buying a couple of snacks from roadside vendors.

Ye Chen bought a string of candied hawthorns and handed it to Jiang Ruoxi. He took a bite himself and grimaced from the sourness.

Jiang Ruoxi laughed at him from the side, and casually took off the one he had bitten and put it into her own mouth.

Ye Chen stared wide-eyed and said, "I bit into that."

Jiang Ruoxi said, "I know."

Ye Chen smiled and said nothing more.

The second stop was Nancheng.

Shen Jingqiu had tidied up the empty room in the backyard of Anhetang early on, laid out new bedding, and placed a small pot of newly blooming angelica flowers on the windowsill.

Shen Bo'an sees patients every morning, and in the afternoon he moves a chair to the courtyard to play chess with Ye Chen.

Jiang Ruoxi read a book beside Shen Jingqiu, occasionally helping her to get medicine.

One evening, Shen Jingqiu returned from the small herb garden behind the house carrying a medicine basket, her head covered in sweat.

She said the soil had been tilled and the seedlings had been planted, and they could be transplanted in two months.

Jiang Ruoxi followed them to the herb garden and saw that in that small patch of land, mint and angelica were neatly arranged, like a child's grid.

She squatted down and looked around for a while before saying, "Jingqiu, this place will definitely be more bustling than the shops in front of you in the future."

Shen Jingqiu smiled, her eyes crinkling, and said, "Then I'll grow more."

On the day he left Nancheng, Shen Bo'an saw him off at the alley entrance as usual.

This time he wasn't using crutches; he was only carrying a small bag, which he handed to Jiang Ruoxi.

Jiang Ruoxi opened the package and found several packets of newly made herbal tea from Anhetang, with labels handwritten by Shen Jingqiu.

Shen Bo'an said, "Don't drink cold drinks on the way."

Jiang Ruoxi agreed.

As Ye Chen started the car, he saw Shen Bo'an standing in the rearview mirror, his hands in his sleeves, his eyes slightly narrowed, as if he were looking at a tree that was growing bigger and bigger.

The third stop is Qingqiaopu.

Ye Chen said he would take Jiang Ruoxi to see Shen Shanhe.

Jiang Ruoxi asked, "Is it that old ghost of mountains and rivers?"

Ye Chen nodded: "Yes. My father's old buddy."

The two parked their car at the entrance of town and walked in.

The stone-paved road is still so narrow, and the elderly people along the street are still sitting at their doorsteps shelling edamame.

Ye Chen knocked on the door of the old house with its green tiles. Shen Shanhe opened the door, glanced at Ye Chen, then at Jiang Ruoxi, nodded, turned and walked inside, leaving behind the words, "Come in, pour yourself some tea."

Exactly the same as last time.

Jiang Ruoxi glanced at Ye Chen secretly, and Ye Chen mouthed "Don't worry about it" to her.

Shen Shanhe cooked them a pot of fish soup.

The fish was freshly caught from the river outside the town, and the soup was thick and white, sprinkled with a handful of wild scallions.

Jiang Ruoxi drank two bowls and praised it as "delicious".

Shen Shanhe smiled, a rare occurrence, and said, "This girl has good taste."

After dinner, Ye Chen and Shen Shanhe sat in the doorway basking in the sun. Shen Shanhe asked a few questions about Anhetang and then inquired about Su Qinghan's health.

Ye Chen answered them one by one.

After listening, Shen Shanhe remained silent for a while before saying, "Your father would be happy if he knew you'd taken over all this."

Ye Chen said, "Why don't you come and take a look too? Don't just stay here all by yourself."

Shen Shanhe waved his hand: "I'm lazy and can't walk anymore. When you have time in the future, just send some of the good medicine from your two valleys over."

Ye Chen replied that he agreed and accepted Shen Shanhe's suggestion.

After leaving Qingqiaopu, Ye Chen and Jiang Ruoxi drove along the riverbank for a while.

The river water is very clear in spring, and the willows on both banks are a bright green.

Ye Chen parked the car on the side of the road, and the two of them got out and walked along the river embankment for a while.

Jiang Ruoxi took Ye Chen's arm and said, "All the places you've taken me to along the way are the places your father used to go."

Ye Chen nodded and said, "Yes, I want you to see what the path my father didn't finish was like."

Jiang Ruoxi thought for a moment and said, "He's finished, but he left too early. You're the one who walked the rest of the way for him."

Ye Chen gripped her hand tightly, without saying a word.

The river wind made their hair all messy.

Big Yellow ran happily ahead, chasing after several butterflies.

Jiang Ruoxi suddenly said, "Ye Chen, when we get old, let's find a place to live. It doesn't have to be too big, just a yard where we can grow some herbs and bask in the sun."

Ye Chen said, "Okay, the courtyard is yours, and the herbs are mine."

Jiang Ruoxi laughed and said, "Then you've figured it out quite well."

That night, they stayed at a guesthouse in a small town by the river.

The guesthouse is a converted old house, and the room only has a bed and a window facing the river.

At night, you can hear the sound of the river flowing by, and the occasional sound of a boat whistle in the distance.

Jiang Ruoxi leaned against Ye Chen and said, "We walked a lot today."

Ye Chen asked, "Are you tired?"

Ye Chen smiled and lowered his head to kiss her hair.

He said, "I'll take you out for a trip every year from now on, without a destination in mind, wherever we end up."

Jiang Ruoxi agreed.

The two lay there, listening to the sound of the river, and slowly fell asleep.

When Jiang Ruoxi woke up the next morning, she found a small paper boat on the windowsill.

It was folded from hotel notepads, crooked and uneven, with a tiny flower drawn on the bow.

Ye Chen was no longer in bed; the sound of him chatting with his boss could be heard downstairs.

Jiang Ruoxi picked up the paper boat and carefully put it into her bag.

She knew it wasn't anything valuable.

But along the way, Ye Chen gave her only things like this.

A wildflower, a photograph, a paper boat.

It's perfectly normal.

But these ordinary things, when put together, represent the life she has always wanted.
