Hunting 81: Gathering Goods in the Mountains, I Spoil My Ex-Wife to the Extreme

Watching Zhou Xishun sign his name on the divorce agreement, Li Yunmei felt the weight on her heart lighten with each word he wrote.

Once Zhou Xishun had signed all the divorce papers, she suddenly felt as if she had broken free from all the constraints and shackles of the Zhou family.

From this moment on, she was no longer Zhou Xishun's wife, nor Zhou's daughter-in-law, nor Li Yunmei, who had to do laundry, cook, and serve her in-laws and still couldn't get a kind word from them.

From now on, she is the daughter of the Li family, the second sister of Li Yunshi, the second sister of Li Yunshan, and her mother's daughter.

After Zhou Xishun finished signing, Li Yunmei picked up the two divorce agreements and carefully read through them from beginning to end, looking at the still-wet ink.

With this divorce agreement, she and Zhou Xishun will have no further relationship from now on.

"I've signed the papers, can I leave now? Hurry up and get the police to remove my handcuffs."

Zhou Xishun glanced at Li Yunmei, his eyes filled with intense disgust and resentment.

If she hadn't made such a big fuss over such a trivial matter, and even called her brothers to corner him in Hou Guifen's room and beat him up, he wouldn't be in so much pain, and he wouldn't have been humiliated in front of those villagers who came to watch the spectacle.

"The police will be here soon, don't worry." Li Yunshan smiled knowingly, and after Li Yunmei folded the divorce agreement and put it in her pocket, the two left.

At this point, Zhou Xishun also relaxed a lot.

The divorce agreement has been signed, and all the family property has been given to Li Yunmei. I can finally leave this awful place.

After leaving this godforsaken place, he will still be a purchasing agent for the supply and marketing cooperative, and he can earn back the property that Li Yunmei took from him as long as he spends some time.

As long as he has a job as a purchasing agent at the supply and marketing cooperative, it won't be difficult for him to find a woman to marry and have children. There are plenty of young women in the surrounding villages for him to choose from.

When the time comes, he will have two... no, three big, fat sons to show Li Yunmei, this woman who can't lay eggs, who really has the problem.

Although he had a good plan, a little while later, two police officers pushed open the door and walked into the interrogation room.

The one in the lead was none other than Chief Liao of the police station.

Upon seeing Director Liao, Zhou Xishun forced a smile that looked more like a grimace onto his chubby face, which had been beaten like a pig's head by Li Yunshan. The worst part was that his face was so painful that he couldn't help but gasp when he grinned.

"Director Liao, Li Yunmei and I have already signed the divorce agreement. What happened today can't be considered inappropriate sexual relations. Please remove these handcuffs from my hands!"

"Zhou Xishun, I'm not here because of your affair with Hou Guifen. Please correct your attitude and confess."

Director Liao tapped the table and said seriously.

"Director Liao, I don't understand what you mean." Zhou Xishun was somewhat bewildered. He had even signed the divorce agreement, yet Director Liao not only wouldn't let him go, but also talked about having a proper attitude and being lenient with the guilty party.

What does this mean?

"Fine, you're being stubborn, aren't you? Now let's talk about how you, as a purchasing agent for the supply and marketing cooperative, abused your position to illegally demand bribes and kickbacks. What do you say?"

A cold smile appeared on Director Liao's upright and incorruptible face.

When Zhou Xishun heard Director Liao say that he had abused his position to illegally demand bribes and kickbacks, his heart skipped a beat, and his pupils contracted sharply in his narrowed eyes.

As a purchasing agent for the supply and marketing cooperative, he engaged in numerous illegal acts, including demanding bribes, extorting money, and accepting kickbacks.

He thought he had done it without anyone noticing, and nothing had happened all these years. How did Director Liao know?

No, he may not know. Perhaps he has only heard rumors and is now using these words to scare or trick him.

Yes, yes, that must be it. I need to calm down, I need to calm down.

As long as I vehemently deny it, claim ignorance, and refuse to admit to accepting bribes or kickbacks, he can't do anything to me.

"Director Liao, I don't understand what you mean. As a purchasing agent for the supply and marketing cooperative, I have always worked diligently and have never done anything like extorting money, demanding bribes, or accepting kickbacks."

Zhou Xishun forced an innocent look onto his face.

"Zhou Xishun, let me remind you one more time: leniency for those who confess, severity for those who resist. You should think carefully before you speak."

A cold glint flashed in Director Liao's eyes.

Having served as a police officer for so many years, he had seen plenty of stubborn criminals. When they were arrested and brought to the station, they were all just like Zhou Xishun, knowing nothing when questioned, or pretending to be stupid.

But once they start using these methods, few people can withstand them. They quickly confess to all the illegal and criminal things they've done, like beans spilling from a bamboo tube.

"This... Chief Liao, I swear to God, I really haven't done any of the illegal or criminal things you've mentioned..."

"Okay, remember what you said."

At this point, Director Liao had lost patience to listen to him finish speaking. Since you, Zhou Xishun, are so stubborn and asking for trouble, then I will grant your wish.

"Xiao Liang, go and call Xiao Wang over. Give this purchasing agent from the supply and marketing cooperative, Zhou Xishun, a lesson. Make him remember how many illegal and criminal things he has done, such as extortion and bribery."

"Remember, don't hold back."

"Yes, Director Liao."

"Hey, Chief Liao, you can't use torture to extract confessions! You're knowingly breaking the law and violating the law while enforcing it!"

The moment the two police officers stood beside him, Zhou Xishun quickly spoke up.

"We also have the right to enforce the law flexibly, even against stubborn criminals. 'Lenient treatment for those who confess' is for criminals who have self-awareness, while severe punishment for those who resist is for stubborn criminals like you."

Director Liao looked the bruised and swollen fat man up and down and let out a cold laugh.

"Director Liao, you have no evidence, so you can't make baseless accusations and tarnish my reputation."

"Evidence? It will be available soon. Director Dou of your supply and marketing cooperative has already notified the county supply and marketing company to send an accountant to conduct an audit, and has also notified the suppliers to assist in the investigation and evidence collection."

Seeing that Zhou Xishun wouldn't give up until he was completely cornered, Director Liao simply stopped wasting words with him and decided to play his cards straight.

Investigating cases and interrogating criminals is never a single-track process, but rather a multi-pronged approach that advances simultaneously.

As soon as Director Liao finished speaking, Zhou Xishun trembled violently, as if he had been thrown into an ice cave. His bones seemed to have been removed, and he slumped limply into the chair in the interrogation room.

"I'll talk, I'll talk, Director Liao, I'll confess everything..."

……

After leaving the police station, freed from the constraints of being a wife, Li Yunmei immediately felt a sense of relief.

Although she still couldn't help thinking about all the sacrifices she had made over the years of marriage, which had only resulted in a divorce agreement, she knew that a better future awaited her.

Next, Li Yunmei took Li Yunshi and Li Yunshan back to Zhou Xishun's house.

Zhou Xishun didn't live with his parents, which saved Li Yunmei a lot of trouble.

Pushing open the door, Li Yunmei went back to her room, packed all her clothes into two canvas bags, went to the credit union, withdrew all the money allocated to her in the divorce agreement, and then the three of them returned to the commune clinic.

However, as she passed the clinic of the commune health center, she slowed her pace, her fingers clutching the hem of her clothes, as if she was hesitating and struggling internally.

Thinking that Zhou Xishun had been keeping a mistress outside the marriage because she had been unable to conceive after so many years of marriage, and that this had eventually led to their divorce, Li Yunmei felt an irresistible urge to go see a doctor for a checkup.

What if the reason for infertility is not hers, but Zhou Xishun's?

However, she was also afraid that if the cause really was her fault, what should she do?

"Second sister, why don't you go see a doctor for a checkup? Maybe the problem isn't with you, but with Zhou Xishun."

Seeing Li Yunmei's hesitant look, Li Yunshan, although he knew she was fine, still gave her a reminder.

After all, even if he confidently told his second sister, Li Yunmei, that she had no fertility problems, his words were not as authoritative as a doctor's examination results.

What Li Yunmei lacks now is an authoritative examination result from a doctor to dispel her worries and anxieties.

"Yes, Second Sister, you should go get checked out. Maybe it really isn't your problem."

Li Yunshi also tried to persuade him.

"Well... okay."

Li Yunmei hesitated for a moment before entering the consultation room.

In the consultation room, the doctor on duty was a woman with half of her hair turned white.

After Li Yunmei explained her purpose, the female doctor asked her to extend her wrist so she could take her pulse, while Li Yunshi and Li Yunshan waited outside the consultation room.

The female doctor carefully took Li Yunmei's pulse, and then glanced at the bruises on her face and forehead, and was roughly guessing what had happened.

It's highly likely that she was abused by her husband because she couldn't conceive after many years of marriage, which is why she came to the hospital for a checkup.

After carefully taking her pulse on one wrist, the doctor asked her to extend her other wrist to take her pulse again.

It took the doctor quite a while to finish taking the pulse.

The moment the doctor withdrew his hand, Li Yunmei couldn't help but ask, "Doctor, is there a problem with my health?"

"Your pulse is steady and strong, and your blood and qi are abundant. There is nothing wrong with your body, so the reason you cannot conceive after many years of marriage is not your fault, but the man's."

"If you want to have a child, you can have the man go to the commune health center or the county hospital for a check-up."

Hearing the doctor's words, Li Yunmei's heart, which had been hanging in suspense, finally settled down.

Honestly, the inability to conceive after so many years of marriage is not her fault.

Therefore, there is only one reason: it's Zhou Xishun's problem.

"Thank you, doctor."

Li Yunmei thanked them, and the joy on her face was clearly visible.

After leaving the clinic, they returned to the ward to pack their things and prepare to go back to Guapigou Village.

However, trouble arose as soon as they completed their discharge procedures.
