Reborn in 2006, I met Mr. Zhou from the past.

Chapter 51: Red Oil Wontons Warm the Whole Family's Stomachs

As they were talking, Su Guoyuan had already finished washing up.

After the three of them had breakfast, Su Fengnan's parents went to work at the factory. Before leaving, Wen Xiaofen carefully told Su Fengnan the exact location of their factory and repeatedly explained the nearby security and environment before leaving with peace of mind.

After watching her parents walk away, Su Fengnan closed the door, turned around and went back to the kitchen counter to start brewing the medicine. An hour later, the aroma of the medicine filled the air. Su Fengnan drank one bowl, poured out the rest to cool, and prepared to bottle it for later use.

Su Fengxia slept until almost nine o'clock before getting up. Su Fengnan heated up some leftovers for her, and as she ate, she complained, "Sister, sleeping on the floor is too hard; my back and waist are aching."

Upstairs were two simply partitioned rooms. Only the parents' room had a bed; Su Fengnan and her sister had to sleep on the floor. Although they had bedding, it wasn't as comfortable as a bed, and they inevitably felt uncomfortable after a while.

"Sis, doesn't your back hurt?"

"I'm okay, I'll hang in there a little longer. I'll buy a mattress when the royalties come in a couple of days."

"The royalties have come through?" Su Fengxia's eyes lit up.

"It'll be in the next couple of days, I haven't checked yet." Su Fengnan looked at her younger sister and smiled indulgently. "When we get the money, what gift do you want? I'll buy it for you."

"real?"

"real."

"Let me think about it first, and I'll tell you when I've made up my mind!"

"Okay, then hurry up and eat. After you finish, let's go for a walk and get familiar with the surroundings."

Su Fengxia responded and quickly finished the rice in her bowl.

Twenty minutes later, the two locked the door and followed the directions Wen Xiaofen gave them towards the old street of Linyang Town. Unexpectedly, the old street was very close to their accommodation; they hadn't walked far along the riverbank before turning a corner and arriving. Strolling along the bluestone path, flanked by mottled old wooden houses, it truly had the charm of an ancient street.

The old street was bustling with activity, selling all sorts of things. After walking around for a while, Su Fengnan realized that she couldn't understand a single word of the local dialect, but as soon as they spoke Mandarin, everyone around her immediately knew they were from out of town. That subtle sense of xenophobia left Su Fengnan feeling somewhat uneasy.

The two stood on a stone arch bridge, looking at the houses along the river on both sides, enjoying a unique sense of tranquility.

"Sister, this town here feels more prosperous than our hometown county seat."

"Yes, the economy here is developing rapidly. In ancient times, our hometown was known as a barbarian land, so people wanted to leave."

"There's no place like home, and I still think my hometown is the best."

Su Fengnan smiled but didn't reply, though a hint of weariness flashed in her eyes.

After crossing the arched bridge, the road here was wide and clean, and most of the houses were newly built cement buildings. The two strolled around the shopping mall, park and temple, and finally bought five pounds of minced meat and wonton wrappers at the market before slowly walking back.

"Sis, you bought so much minced meat, aren't you sure you can finish all of it?"

"We're going to my uncle's house for dinner tonight, so I'll pack a lot and send some over to them too."

"Oh, okay."

As they were walking, Su Fengxia suddenly called out, "Sister, wait for me!"

Before Su Fengnan could react, she had already nimbly run into the nearby supermarket and returned holding two cream-flavored ice cream bars.

"Here you go, sis, it's on me!"

Su Fengnan took the ice cream and was about to tear open the packaging when she suddenly stopped. Remembering that she was prone to feeling cold and was currently taking Chinese medicine, she reluctantly handed the ice cream back.

"I'm taking Chinese medicine, and the ice cream is too cold; I can't eat too much cold food."

"Oh? Then I'll reluctantly eat it for you!"

Su Fengnan was amused by his little sister's greedy look: "Eat up, eat up, it's all yours."

Back home, the clock on the wall pointed to 11:30. Su Fengnan immediately started preparing the filling for the wontons. Su Fengxia couldn't help much, so she assisted by washing the scallions, ginger, and garlic.

When Su Guoyuan and Wen Xiaofen returned from get off work, dozens of wontons had already been neatly wrapped, and the spicy red oil was ready. As soon as the water boiled, the wontons were put into the pot, and in no time, four bowls of steaming hot, bright red, and tempting wontons in red oil were placed on the table.

Su Guoyuan and Wen Xiaofen washed the sweat off their faces, and the family of four sat together.

When they got back, there was food ready to eat, and it was even wontons made by their eldest daughter herself. The couple couldn't have been more pleased with themselves.

The moment you take a bite of a wonton, the spicy and savory flavors explode in your mouth. The meat filling is tender and juicy—it's simply delicious!

"Oh my, sis, this is so delicious! Homemade is definitely better than store-bought!" Su Fengxia praised indistinctly as she ate, almost burning her tongue.

"Dad, Mom, don't you think so?"

Wen Xiaofen swallowed one, and although it was a little hot, she couldn't help but smile and nod: "It's really delicious, the flavor is authentic, and the size is big too."

Su Guoyuan was full of praise: "This filling is really well made! Xiao Nan, who did you learn it from?"

"Ning Xiaojun's mother. I've been to her house a few times and watched her mother make wontons, so I learned how to do it myself." Su Fengnan lied with a straight face.

Actually, she learned this skill from short videos in her past life. She would make a lot of these to freeze for her children's breakfast. The children love her wontons the most, but she always makes them small and delicate, especially for the kids.

"Eat more if you like it. We made a lot today. We'll bring some back for my uncle's family this afternoon."

Upon hearing that a gift also needed to be delivered to her younger brother's family, Wen Xiaofen glanced at her eldest daughter and said with relief, "After lunch, you should stay home and not go out; it's too hot outside. We'll take you there together after we get off work."

The two sisters exclaimed in unison, "Yes!"

After that, only the satisfying sounds of chewing filled the table. Watching her family enjoy their meal, Su Fengnan felt a deep sense of contentment.

After lunch, Su Fengxia volunteered to wash the dishes, while Su Fengnan helped her mother wrap the remaining wontons. With help, the process was much faster.

Su Guoyuan lay on the recliner to rest, and Su Fengnan had already brought him the warmed medicine.

Because there was no refrigerator, the wrapped wontons could only be neatly arranged one by one on a clean kitchen counter, covered with gauze, and ventilated with a fan on.

After finishing all that, her parents went to work, and Su Fengnan felt exhausted and prepared to take a nap.

When I went upstairs, I saw Su Fengxia lying on the bed in a daze, sighing from time to time.

"What's wrong?"

"Sis, I'm so bored!"

Su Fengnan glanced at her: "If you're bored, I'll find you something to make money doing in a couple of days."

Su Fengxia lazily rolled over, lying on her side as she looked at her sister: "Sister, I'm a minor."

"What I'm talking about is something that even minors can do."

"Really? Then give me a heads-up!"

"You'll find out in a couple of days. Go to sleep now, I'm tired." With that, Su Fengnan lay down and closed her eyes to rest.

Seeing that her sister was indeed tired, Su Fengxia stopped asking questions, turned over, and obediently closed her eyes.
