Xiao Douzi took a deep breath.

The air was filled with the sweetness of cotton candy, the aroma of roasted sweet potatoes, the crispness of pine and cypress trees, and a caramel scent that seemed to be mixed in with popcorn.

"It smells so good!" she exclaimed, tilting her head back. Her eyes squinted slightly in the sunlight, and her lips curled up, her whole face beaming with happiness.

Her ahoge (cowlick) stuck up on her head, bobbing back and forth in the wind, like a little antenna swaying with her mood.

The three of them began to walk along the main road.

The reddish-brown bricks spread out underfoot, their surfaces gleaming slightly from being stepped on, possessing a texture that had been smoothed and warmed by time.

Little Douzi held Lin Ye's hand with her left hand and Duoduo's hand with her right hand, walking in the middle with light steps as if she were walking on clouds.

She turned to look at the plush toys in the shop window on the left—

That shop had a whole row of dinosaur plush toys—green, blue, pink…

Each one wore a Santa hat, the white pom-pom on the tip of the hat gleaming softly under the shop window lights.

Then he looked up at the colorful flags and bells overhead—

The colorful flags are triangular, stretching from one end of the main road to the other, with red, yellow, blue and green colors alternating, fluttering in the wind and making a soft "whoosh" sound.

Golden bells hung from the rope in the middle of the string of colorful flags, swaying gently in the wind and tinkling.

The little boy's eyes were so busy that he couldn't keep up, turning his head from left to right and then from right to left, looking up and down as well.

It's as if they want to photograph everything within their field of vision and store it in their minds.

Not far along, a balloon stall appeared by the roadside.

The stall owner was an elderly man with gray hair tied up, wearing a dark brown cotton vest, sitting on a folding stool.

The legs of the small stool were already a bit rusty, and it made a "creaking" sound when you sat on it.

He held a large handful of balloon strings in his hand, and colorful cartoon balloons floated huddled together in mid-air, like a large, colorful cloud.

The clouds were shaped like rabbits, flowers, the sun, and all sorts of other shapes and sizes.

There are also some flattened spheres with eyes and mouths drawn on them, and exaggerated big eyes and curved smiling mouths drawn on their round faces.

White, blue, pink, yellow... they come in all colors.

Xiao Douzi's steps slowed involuntarily as her gaze was drawn to the balloons.

She looked at the pink bunny balloon at the very top; that bunny was a size bigger than all the other balloons.

Its two long ears stood upright, and the white dots on the tips of its ears shone with a soft light.

A pair of large, curved eyes were painted on her round face, and her eyelashes were drawn as three upward-curving arcs.

But she only glanced at it, her steps faltering for less than a second.

The gaze had already been averted; Little Douzi was used to it.

It's enough to just look at things you like; you don't need to actually own them.

She started walking again, her steps as light as before, as if nothing had happened.

But the person holding her hand stopped.

"Wait for me." Lin Ye's voice came down from above Xiao Douzi's head. It wasn't loud, but it carried an undeniable firmness.

He turned and walked to the stall, the hem of his black coat drawing a clean arc behind him with his movement.

Then he bent down slightly and leaned closer to the old man, pointing to the pink rabbit at the highest point.

The old man looked up following his finger, then chuckled and untied the string with the pink rabbit attached from the bunch of balloons.

Although his fingers were rough, he was very skillful at untying knots, and in no time he separated the thread from the bundle of rope and handed it to Lin Ye.

Lin Ye paid the money, wrapped the balloon string twice around his index finger, turned around and walked back, his steps as unhurried as when he left.

He led the balloon behind him, while the pink rabbit bounced along in mid-air, chasing his steps.

He untied the white plastic rope, held it between his thumb and forefinger, and handed it to Xiaodouzi.

"Here's the little bag, take it."

Little Douzi stared blankly for a second at the rabbit balloon swaying gently in the wind.

Then he quickly reached out and took it, carefully wrapping the string around his finger several times, tightly, as if afraid it would fly away.

She looked up at Lin Ye.

Sunlight streamed through the pink rubber film of the rabbit balloon, casting a very faint pink halo on her face.

The light in those big eyes was brighter than the colorful lights hanging on both sides of the road.

"Thank you, godfather!"

Lin Ye raised his hand and gently straightened her slightly crooked bangs.

"You're welcome, but next time our little one wants something or likes it, you have to tell your godfather, okay? Got it?"

Xiao Douzi was stunned for a moment, and her eyes reddened, but she held back and said softly with a sob in her voice, "I understand, Godfather..."

Duoduo hopped a couple of steps to the side, then stood on tiptoe to examine the rabbit closely.

She looked from the rabbit's long ears all the way to its round, smiling face, and then gave her assessment:

"Wow, this rabbit is so cute! Look at its eyes—they're curved, it's smiling!"

She then reached out and gently tapped the rabbit's ear with the tip of her index finger. The rabbit swayed to the left and bounced back.

"Ling'er, your godfather is so kind... Last time I came, my mom said I bought too many balloons and wouldn't buy me any more." He leaned closer to the little bag and examined the rabbit closely.

"Wow, this rabbit is so cute! Ling'er, your godfather is so nice—my mom said last time that I bought too many balloons, and she won't buy me any more."

She pursed her lips as she spoke, but immediately smiled again, lowered her voice, and whispered to Xiaodouzi:

"But my dad secretly bought me one later, it's a flower one! By the time my mom found out, I had already hung it on my bedside table, hehe!"

Little Douzi listened and looked up at the rabbit balloon that was still swaying.

The rabbit was just then being blown down by the wind, and it seemed to be looking at her.

Xiao Douzi's lips curled up slightly, and a warm feeling suddenly welled up in her heart.

She couldn't quite explain what that thing was, but it made her feel incredibly warm and at ease.

She wrapped the thread around her finger again, making sure it wouldn't come loose, before continuing on her way.

In the Great Flame Kingdom, countless people with children were moved by the scene before them.

The barrage of comments kept pouring out from the bottom right corner of the screen, one after another.

[Commoner Qian Da: Oh my, the eldest princess only glanced at that flying rabbit ball, and Immortal Lin immediately stopped to buy it! This pampering is truly something else; even I, an adult, am envious...]

[Commoner Li Hua: Sigh, I don't think anyone has ever bought anything for this child before. She's clearly a noble princess... yet she doesn't even dare to ask for things she likes. Luckily, Immortal Lin noticed. It's so good now...]

[Common People's Friday: Immortal Lin truly cherishes the eldest princess. She only glanced at him, yet he still noticed. How could he have discovered that if he wasn't constantly focused on the child?]
