The first project they encountered was a pirate ship.

Duoduo saw it from afar, and like a lit firecracker, she wanted to rush over in a flash.

Then he suddenly remembered that he had come with someone, and he awkwardly stopped and turned around, grabbing the cuff of Xiao Dou's sleeve with one hand.

With his other hand, he kept pointing at the large, dark wooden ship that was drawing an arc in the air.

"That! The pirate ship!" Her voice was clear and bright, cutting through the noisy background of the amusement park. "Last time my mom wouldn't let me ride it, saying I'd be scared—"

At this point, Duoduo rolled her eyes slightly and put her hands on her hips.

The movement caused the orange-yellow down jacket to puff up on both sides, making him look like a puffed-up little orange.

She tilted her chin up slightly, turned her lips down, and loudly declared, "Hmph! I'm not afraid!"

Then she brought her head close to the little dumpling's face: "Ling'er, you believe me, right?"

Xiao Douzi was pulled forward two steps by her. She didn't break free. While replying "I believe you, I believe you" she turned her head to look at Lin Ye beside her.

Lin Ye patted her head reassuringly, his gaze sweeping over the crowd and landing on the pirate ship that was churning in the distance.

It is a size that children can sit in.

The hull is the color of ancient wood, and the paint is slightly mottled from being exposed to the wind and sun. There are a few rough rivet patterns painted on the hull, and the dragon heads at both ends are in a cartoonish style.

The dragon's horns are rounded and blunt, and its teeth are square. It doesn't look like a dragon at all, but rather like two cute cartoon animals wearing dragon horn headbands.

When the boat reaches its highest point, it's roughly parallel to the ground, far less terrifying than the 360-degree tumble that adults experience.

But with each dive, the screams of many children could still be heard from dozens of meters away on the ship—

Some were screaming, others were shouting "Daddy!" "Mommy!" Their voices were broken and swirling in the air, carried by the wind.

He looked down at Xiaodouzi's expression.

The little girl showed no fear; her round eyes were fixed on the pirate ship that kept rising and falling, unblinking, filled with focused curiosity.

The sunlight shone on her profile, making the fine, soft downy hair on her cheeks glow slightly, like a kitten carefully observing something unfamiliar.

"Want to sit down?" Lin Ye gently patted her head and bent down to ask her.

Little Douzi nodded vigorously, and the rabbit balloon in his right hand also bounced up and down twice, as if it were nodding along.

She looked up at Lin Ye, her eyes shining brightly: "Yes! Godfather, I want to try!"

……

There weren't many people on the pirate ship, and it was their turn in less than ten minutes.

During the few minutes she waited in line, Duoduo stood on tiptoe the whole time, craning her neck to look at the ever-shortening line in front of her.

He muttered, "It's so slow, why isn't it our turn yet?" The last few words were sung in a continuous syllable, like some unknown incantation.

Little Douzi remained quiet. But her hand, holding the rabbit balloon, kept tightening and loosening, pinching the white plastic string and leaving fine, winding marks.

As they got closer to the pirate ship, the screams from above became clearer, and she couldn't help but feel nervous.

Lin Ye led the two children through the entrance and found empty seats to sit down next to each other. Aunt Li, Duo Duo's nanny, also followed.

She needs to be with the staff in person to feel at ease about such a somewhat dangerous facility.

Duoduo and Xiaodouzi sat together, Lin Ye sat on Xiaodouzi's other side, and Aunt Li sat on Duoduo's other side.

Then the staff came up and checked each safety bar one by one. After confirming that there were no problems, they raised their hands to signal.

After all the staff closed the entrance and left, the ship slowly began to move.

At first, it swayed very slowly and gently, like a cradle.

The ship swayed back and forth with such a small amount of movement that there was almost no turbulence, and the machinery underneath emitted a low hum.

The wind was soft, gently gliding across my face, carrying the sweet scent of cotton candy from afar.

Duoduo turned her head and shouted to Xiaodouzi, a smug look on her face saying, "I already told you."

"That's it? This is way too—wow—!!!"

Before he could finish speaking, the boat suddenly lurched upwards.

The shock came so suddenly and violently that Duoduo's last sentence was abruptly punctuated by a series of incoherent screams—

"Waaaaahh ...

The shrill voice was forced out of the throat, and it rose another octave when the boat swayed to its highest point.

As the ship plunged downwards, the trailing sound was drawn out thinly and long before being swallowed up by the whooshing wind.

Xiao Douzi remained silent.

But she gripped the safety bar in front of her tightly with both hands, so tightly that her knuckles turned white.

The wind made her squint, and the swaying image peered through the remaining gaps—

The sky and the shadows of the trees were thrown in and out, and the golden sunlight and the gray floor tiles flashed alternately in my eyes.

Her lips were pressed tightly together, forming a line, and a faint tooth mark could be seen on her lower lip.

Lin Ye sat down next to her, his large hand covering her small hand, his arm resting on the back of the chair behind Xiao Douzi, and his body leaning slightly towards her.

This gesture lets Xiaodouzi know that he has always been there.

The boat began its second ascent, this time reaching even higher.

So high that you can see the entire Ferris wheel in the distance—

The giant roulette wheel gleamed with a cold, silvery light in the sunlight, turning steadily, a stark contrast to the frenzied activity of the pirate ship.

Then, on the third time, the ship reached its highest point, almost parallel to the ground.

The ship paused for a second at its highest point, a second that seemed to have been stolen from the river of time.

In that instant, the whole world seemed to fall silent. The hum of the machines suddenly faded into the distance, the wind stopped, and even breathing seemed to disappear.

My whole body felt lighter, and my buttocks automatically lifted off the seat.

Then, it plummeted!

Gravity, like a giant beast suddenly awakened, opened its jaws, grabbed the entire ship, and pulled it downwards with tremendous force.

Little Douzi finally couldn't hold back and let out a short scream.

"ah--!"

The sound lingered in the air for less than half a second before being torn to pieces by the oncoming wind and scattered in the wake of the ship.

But after she called out, she suddenly laughed.

It wasn't because I wasn't scared anymore; my heart was still pounding in my chest, my palms were still sweating, and my stomach was still hanging in mid-air, not fully back down.

Instead, fear and a sudden surge of exhilaration were mixed together, and it was impossible to distinguish which was which.

The December wind, carrying a crisp, clear air, swept past my ears with a sharp "whoosh," and felt cool and refreshing.

The wind blew her bangs back, revealing her smooth forehead, with wispy baby hairs fluttering in the breeze.

Xiao Douzi turned to look at Lin Ye and found that Lin Ye was also looking at her with concern in his eyes, the collar of his black coat fluttering slightly in the wind.

Looking at him, Xiao Douzi suddenly felt that it wasn't so scary anymore.

She turned back to face forward, and this time she didn't hold back. Instead, she faced the oncoming wind, took a deep breath, and let out a long, forceful "Whoaaaaah—!"
