Border Prisoner: The Mad Boss Seduces Her Every Night

Chapter 117 The Real and Fake Jiajia Brothers in a Shura Field

Xu Jia walked up the steps and stood in front of her, not too close, just enough for the umbrella to shield her from the rain without making her feel pressured. He handed her the umbrella, the handle facing her.

"No need." Shi Luyu subconsciously took a step back, the documents in her hand fluttering in the wind. "I'll wait for Brother Jiajia to pick me up."

"..."

Xu Jia didn't put away the umbrella, but gave a self-deprecating chuckle.

His hand remained raised, refusing to budge.

Rain fell on his shoulders and back, and the black umbrella connected the two of them under a rainless sky.

"You can wait for him." His voice wasn't loud, but the rain was so heavy that he had to raise his voice slightly so she could hear him. "But don't wait in the rain."

Shi Luyu was stunned.

Xu Jia stood at the edge of the porch, rain streaming down from the eaves, forming a curtain of water beside him.

The two stood side by side, with a person's distance between them; he held an umbrella for her.

The sound of rain filled all the gaps in the silence, making the quiet less unbearable.

"My home is safe for now," he suddenly said, his voice very soft, as if unsure whether he should say it.

Shi Luyu turned to look at him, not understanding: "What?"

Xu Jia looked at the rain curtain, her gaze fixed on the distance. Her profile appeared even paler than usual in the hazy light of the sky, her jawline taut, then relaxed.

His lips moved slightly, as if he was choosing his words carefully:

"So there are some things I can tell you slowly later."

He turned his head and looked at her. There was too much in those eyes for Shi Luyu to understand at first, but she could sense a hint of solemnity.

The car headlights pierced through the rain, casting two white beams across the school road, causing the people in the porch to squint.

The black sedan came to a stop at the bottom of the steps, and the rear window slowly rolled down.

Xu Yuanjia's face appeared from behind the car window. He was wearing a dark gray suit today, without a tie, and the top two buttons of his shirt were undone, revealing his collarbone.

His hair was neatly combed, but a strand fell across his forehead, as if he had casually tousled it.

The man smiled, his eyes sweeping over Xu Jia.

"What are you talking about, so focused?" His voice pierced through the rain, just enough for the two of them to hear.

The headlights shone directly on the steps, making the raindrops look like countless luminous silver needles.

Xu Jia carefully placed the umbrella handle into Shi Luyu's hand, making sure she had a firm grip, before letting go.

Xu Jia's body heat hadn't dissipated from the umbrella handle when Xu Yuanjia's gaze shifted from the umbrella surface to her fingers holding it.

It only paused for a moment, so brief that she barely noticed.

But Xu Jia noticed.

Xu Yuanjia's car window was down, and rain poured down from the roof, forming a curtain of water beside him. He sat in the back seat, one hand resting on the window frame, the other hanging down on his knee, his posture as relaxed as if he were leaning on his own sofa.

His suit jacket was unbuttoned, and the white shirt underneath looked exceptionally clean in the dim light of the rainy day. He glanced at Xu Jia.

Xu Jia met Xu Yuanjia's gaze calmly, neither humble nor arrogant, standing there with an open and unhurried demeanor.

"It's raining heavily, be careful on the road."

After giving Shi Luyu his instructions, Xu Jia turned and walked down the steps. He didn't have an umbrella, and the rain soaked most of his shirt.

"Teaching Assistant Xu."

Xu Yuanjia stopped him, his voice laced with laughter, as polite as a classroom greeting, "It's raining so hard, why didn't you call a car? I'll give you a ride since it's on my way."

Xu Jia looked at him, her lips twitching slightly. "Not on the way."

His attitude was as cold as water.

Xu Yuanjia raised an eyebrow slightly.

Shi Luyu could tell that it was a sign of displeasure.

She gripped the umbrella handle tightly, took a step forward, and tried to stand between the two people.

Xu Yuanjia shifted his gaze from Xu Jia's face, looked at her, then back at Xu Jia's face before opening the car door and getting out.

Rain instantly fell on him. His dark gray suit was stained with a patch of dark material on the shoulder, but he didn't care. He walked up the steps, stood in front of Shi Luyu, took the black umbrella from her hand with his right hand, and put his left arm around her shoulder, pulling her into his embrace.

The movements were fluid and decisive, leaving no room for discussion.

He casually leaned the black umbrella against a pillar on the porch, its handle facing outwards, like an abandoned relic.

"Teacher Assistant Xu cares so much about my girlfriend, how can I thank you enough?" Xu Yuanjia's voice echoed clearly in the corridor.

The man's hand rested on Shi Luyu's shoulder, his posture relaxed, yet his gaze was intimidating.

Xu Jia looked at the hand resting on Shi Luyu's shoulder. "What are you thanking me for?"

He said, "She's my student, and someone I care about. I only did what I wanted to do."

Xu Yuanjia was amused.

"The people I care about." He repeated these four words with a smile, pausing for a half-beat between each word, as if he were chewing on them or savoring them.

"Teaching Assistant Xu's words show courage."

Shi Luyu sensed a chilling warning in his voice. She looked up at Xu Yuanjia, whose jawline was taut, lips were pressed into a thin line, and eyes were fixed on Xu Jia, his pupils reflecting the rain and dim light.

She reached out, took his fingers that were resting on her shoulder, and gently squeezed them.

His fingers neither clenched back nor withdrew.

Xu Jia didn't look at Xu Yuanjia again. He turned to Shi Luyu, his gaze sweeping over her face, and said only, "I'm leaving, Lulu."

He turned and walked down the steps into the rain.

The rain lashed against him, his shirt clinging to his back, clearly outlining his shoulder blades. He didn't turn around.

Xu Yuanjia stood there, watching Xu Jia's figure disappear into the depths of the rain. He turned his gaze away and looked down at Shi Luyu.

She looked down at the tips of her shoes.

"Get in the car," he said.

The sound of the car door closing was swallowed by the rain.

Shi Luyu sat in her seat, holding wet documents in her hands. The papers were soggy from the water that the edges were curled up.

No one spoke in the carriage. Shi Luyu glanced at him furtively; his profile looked harsh in the cold light of the ambient lighting, but he didn't look at her.

When she got home, she took a shower first.

I rinsed myself with hot water for a long time, washing away the coolness of the rain, but not the images in my mind.

The sight of Xu Jia standing in the rain, the look in Xu Yuanjia's eyes as he got out of the car—the moment their eyes met, it was as if the air had been sucked away.

She turned off the water, dried herself off, and changed into her bathrobe.

Xu Yuanjia had already finished showering in another bathroom and was leaning against the headboard looking at his phone. The light from the screen illuminated his face, making it difficult to see his expression.

She lay down, and he reached out to turn off the light. He then slipped his arm under the covers and placed it around her waist, just like always.

Everything was normal.

His body heat came from her back, and his breath fell on the back of her neck, light and slow.

She closed her eyes, but her mind kept racing.

Xu Jia said, "My home is safe for now," and "I can tell you some things slowly later." When he said these words, his expression was very serious, as if he were talking about a trivial matter.

What was he telling her?

What is it that he dares not say?

Shi Luyu turned over and faced the ceiling.

The sound of even breathing came from beside him; Xu Yuanjia had fallen asleep.

She waited a moment, then gently removed his hand from her waist, sat up in bed, and left the bedroom without turning on the light. Barefoot on the carpet, she quietly closed the door behind her.

The study door wasn't locked, and the sound of the computer turning on was quite loud in the quiet night. She turned the volume down to mute and inserted the USB drive.

A folder popped up on the screen containing only one video file, twenty minutes long. She double-clicked to open it.

The footage is in color, shot from a high vantage point, and the camera is somewhat shaky.

The streets of the old town are gray concrete, and the palm trees along the roadside are bent to one side by the wind. At the bottom of the picture, a person gets out of a black car.

He was wearing a black coat and carrying a briefcase.

He walked to the back of the car and opened the trunk.

Shi Luyu leaned closer to the screen.

The person in the picture turned around—

A hand reached out from behind her and pressed the space bar, freezing the image.

Shi Luyu froze.

Her back pressed against his chest, his body heat radiating through her thin pajamas, making all the hairs on her body stand on end.

His breath landed on her head, heavy and slow, like the silence of the last second before a storm.

So in the end, no matter what I do...

His voice fell from above her head, neither loud nor soft, devoid of anger or sadness, as calm as reading a report.

"My little one still doesn't trust me, does she?"
