Border Prisoner: The Mad Boss Seduces Her Every Night
Chapter 122 Bed
Water droplets gathered at the edge of the faucet, fell, and slammed into the stainless steel sink with a soft thud.
Shi Luyu closed her eyes and slowly lowered her tiptoes back to the ground. His hand slid down from the back of her neck, along the groove of her spine, and stopped at the back of her waist.
Her fingers gripped the hair at the back of his head.
They later left the kitchen.
The living room lights were off, the bedroom door was ajar, and moonlight streamed in through the gaps in the curtains, casting a long, thin, silvery-white line at the foot of the bed.
As she lay down, the concave shape of the pillow perfectly supported the back of her head. He propped himself up above her, blocking the moonlight; she could only see his silhouette—
The curve of her shoulders, the line of her jaw, and her hair falling down, brushing against her forehead.
The room was very quiet.
She could not tell whether it was the sound of waves in the distance or just the low-frequency vibration of an air conditioner unit.
For a moment, her consciousness became very light, as if she were floating in mid-air, looking down at the two people on the bed.
She saw his hand move away from her waist, his fingers resting on the drawer handle of the bedside table, pulling it open and taking out a small square.
The sound of the plastic packaging being torn open was loud in the quiet room. She closed her eyes, her eyelashes trembling.
In the darkness, his lips pressed against her earlobe, his voice so low that the words were broken apart by his breath; she could only hear his unusually soft voice:
"If it hurts, just cry. I'll be gentler, sweetie."
She gripped the sheets tightly, her fingertips turning white, her lips pressed into a thin line, and buried her face in his shoulder, her teeth sinking into her lower lip.
The moonlight peeked through the gap in the curtains, climbed up her ankles, and then slowly moved away, like a cool hand that refused to stay.
She didn't know how much time had passed, nor did she care.
Her consciousness hovered at a certain height, like a bird lifted by the air currents, its wings outstretched, needing no flapping to avoid falling.
Her fingers slid down, leaving faint marks on his skin with her nails.
……
The next day, Xu Yuanjia felt sorry for her because her back and legs ached so much that she couldn't get out of bed, so he specially asked for leave for her and let her stay at home to rest.
She was sleeping alone at home when her phone vibrated.
She didn't hear it the first time. The second time, she felt the bedside table vibrate, buzzing like insects trapped in a drawer. Only then did she groggily open her eyes and reach for her phone.
The number on the screen was unfamiliar, a local number from the Taimai area code. She answered, her voice still slightly hoarse:
"Feed?"
There was a long silence on the other end of the phone. Then came a person's breathing, rapid and suppressed, as if they were enduring something.
"Shi Luyu," he said.
She recognized that voice. Xu Chenglin.
Shi Luyu's sleepiness vanished instantly; she sat up, the blanket slipping from her shoulders.
How did you get my number?
"Never mind how I got here." His voice was much hoarser than the last time they met. "Come out, I'm at the north exit of the old alley near your house. I have something to tell you. It's about Xu Yuanjia."
Shi Luyu gripped her phone tightly, a sense of foreboding rising within her: "What exactly do you want to do?"
"I'll only wait for you for twenty minutes," he simply said.
The phone hangs up.
Lu Yu put down her phone, thought for a moment, then got up and got dressed.
The north alley entrance is always quiet, with no pedestrians or vehicles. Shi Luyu walked to the entrance and saw a figure leaning against a fire hydrant by the roadside.
Xu Chenglin has lost a lot of weight.
His hair had grown longer, sticking out in a messy, upright fashion, and a patch of bluish stubble had sprouted on his chin. His T-shirt was wrinkled, as if it had come out of nowhere.
His complexion was terrible, pale as gray, with dark circles under his eyes, but his eyes were still bright, like the light that was burning out at the very end.
"What brings you here?" Shi Luyu walked over and stopped in front of him. "It's been so long since I've seen you. What have you been doing? Why are you suddenly talking to me about your brother?"
Xu Chenglin scoffed, hissing as he pulled at an old wound on the corner of his mouth.
"Even the watchdogs in the dungeon sometimes doze off." He paused. "I bribed the food delivery guy, switched his clothes, and slipped out. That bastard Xu Yuanjia thought he could get away with just locking me up; he forgot that some of his men are desperate for money too."
"What dungeon?" Shi Luyu's heart skipped a beat, she was stunned. "What Xu Yuanjia? You mean... he locked you up?"
Looking at him, Shi Luyu was suddenly filled with anxiety. The once robust man was now as thin as a withered branch that might break at any moment.
"What do you want to tell me? About Xu Yuanjia?"
Xu Chenglin lowered his head, looking at his shoes. His shoes were filthy, the toes covered in mud and dried blood. He remained silent for a long time, and Shi Luyu almost thought he wouldn't speak.
"He's lying to you." Xu Chenglin's voice was very soft, so soft it seemed to be squeezed out from his throat. "From beginning to end. From the day you reunited, he's been lying to you."
Shi Luyu's fingers clenched the hem of her clothes. "What did you lie to me about?"
Xu Chenglin raised his head and looked into her eyes. His gaze held a strange, chilling pity.
"I won't tell you everything, and even if I did, you wouldn't believe me." He forced a smirk, a truly unpleasant smile. "You're head over heels in love with him now, aren't you?"
He took a breath and said sarcastically, "Xu Yuanjia's style is to block all the paths around you, leaving only the one he gives you."
"You can only trust him, rely on him, and love him. By the time you realize that path is also a lie, you'll be trapped."
Shi Luyu remained silent. The sunlight shone on her face, making her expression appear pale.
"But I can tell you something." Xu Chenglin took a step forward, getting closer to her. "Your real childhood sweetheart is indeed right beside you, protecting you."
Shi Luyu's heart skipped a beat, and a chill ran down her spine. "What do you mean?"
"Haha!" Xu Chenglin didn't explain.
He took a step back, leaned against the fire hydrant, looked up at the sky, and squinted because the light was too bright.
"Take your time to think it through, search carefully, and peel back the layers to uncover the truth. You'll see for yourself how much Xu Yuanjia has hidden—that's where the real fun begins!"
His voice lowered, so low it sounded like he was talking to himself.
"In this life, I can't beat him. I've never been able to beat him since birth. The old man only has eyes for him, and everyone in the Xu family only sees him."
He lowered his head, looking at Shi Luyu, his eyes burning with the last embers of fire:
"But you're different! You can make him feel pain! The day you expose his true colors, he'll suffer more than if he were dead."
Shi Luyu stood there, her throat feeling like it was being choked.
She wanted to ask more, to find out exactly what was going on, and what Xu Yuanjia had been hiding from her.
But Xu Chenglin no longer looked at her. He turned around and walked into the depths of the alley. After a few steps, he stopped and did not look back.
"Let's go," he said. "Don't let his people see you with me, or you'll be in big trouble."
Shi Luyu stood there, watching his slender figure disappear into the darkness of the alley.
She clutched the hem of her clothes and stood there for a long time until the wind made her hands and feet feel cold before turning around and taking a few steps in the direction she had left.
A gunshot suddenly rang out behind me.
Violent, dull, as if something exploded in my chest.
Shi Luyu turned around abruptly. The alleyway was empty; there was nothing there. Her heart pounded, and a bad premonition surged from her feet to the top of her head, making her feel cold all over.
The wind blew in from the alley entrance, carrying a faint, metallic smell.
