The banquet was held at the Royal Somphon Hotel on the banks of the Chao Phraya River.

The entire floor is made up of floor-to-ceiling windows on all four sides, with the night view of the Chao Phraya River spread out beneath your feet and the lights reflected on the water, like countless pieces of gold swaying with the waves.

The crystal chandelier in the dome cast a warm glow, illuminating the elegant ladies and graceful figures throughout the hall.

Shi Luyu, dressed in an elegant dark red dress, followed Xu Yuanjia into the banquet hall.

She held onto Xu Yuanjia's arm, her fingers resting on the dark suit fabric.

Xu Yuanjia walked slowly, but wherever he went, the crowd automatically parted to the sides.

Those who had been chatting and laughing just moments before, holding their wine glasses, all fell silent without prior arrangement.

Some middle-aged men nodded slightly as they stepped aside to make way, while some jeweled wives moved aside after being reminded by their husbands.

When they reached the center of the banquet hall, a young couple was standing in front of them.

The boy looked to be in his early twenties, wearing a well-tailored gray suit, with a straight posture and angular features between his brows and eyes that had not yet been completely smoothed out.

He saw Xu Yuanjia approaching and his body tensed slightly.

Behind him stood a girl, more than half a head shorter than him, wearing a light pink short skirt and clutching a pearl handbag. When she saw Xu Yuanjia, she shrank back behind her brother.

Xu Yuanjia stopped and looked at the two young men with great interest.

"You two, why are you mute?" Xu Yuanjia asked with a smile, unusually speaking to someone.

"Can't you greet people?"

That smile might seem gentle to others, but to Shi Luyu, she saw a subtle sense of oppression beneath it.

A complex expression flickered across the boy's handsome face: fear, resistance, resentment, and a deeper gloom.

But in the end, under Xu Yuanjia's calm, smiling gaze, he lowered his head and called out in a neither loud nor soft voice:

"elder brother."

Xu Yuanjia did not respond.

He raised his hand and pulled Shi Luyu closer to his side, placing his palm on her lower back.

He slightly clenched his fingers and raised his chin slightly towards the brother and sister: "Call her sister-in-law."

Shi Luyu felt the gazes of both of them fall on her face at the same time. The girl's gaze was filled with curiosity and cautious scrutiny.

The boy's gaze was much colder, sweeping across her face with undisguised hostility and defensiveness.

She saw undisguised disgust in his eyes.

...It turns out that when people who dislike Xu Yuanjia see her standing next to him, they really will dislike her too.

The boy was silent for a few seconds before speaking: "...Sister-in-law."

His voice was strained, almost as if he was gritting his teeth and squeezing it out.

The girl called out softly, as if afraid of disturbing something.

Xu Yuanjia smiled with satisfaction, patted Shi Luyu's waist lightly with his fingers, and led her forward.

A stage was set up directly in front of the banquet hall, with a champagne-colored flower wall as the backdrop.

When the emcee saw Xu Yuanjia approaching, he bowed slightly and stepped back.

Xu Yuanjia led Shi Luyu up the steps and turned to face the guests in the hall.

He had one arm around her waist, and the other hand casually in his pocket.

Countless pairs of eyes looked up at the audience simultaneously, some in surprise, some inquiring, and some observing silently.

Xu Yuanjia spoke up.

His voice wasn't loud, but the entire banquet hall was so quiet that even breathing was suppressed.

Each word fell clearly and firmly into the air: "Let me introduce you, this is my future Mrs. Xu."

There was no extra setup or explanation.

After he finished speaking, he glanced down at her with a smile on his lips, as if admiring a treasure that could finally be displayed in public.

There was a two-second silence in the audience, and then applause broke out, first cautiously and sporadically, then it became a continuous chorus, like raindrops forming a tide.

Shi Luyu stood beside him, wearing a polite smile, but in her heart she was plotting something else.

How much of the congratulations from those hands holding wine glasses and those smiling faces was genuine, and how much was merely a subservient agreement born of fear?

Her hand rested on his arm, maintaining a docile demeanor.

At this moment, Xu Yuanjia leaned down slightly, his lips close to her earlobe, his voice so low that only she could hear it:

"What kind of date does my sweetheart like? Let's choose one and make it our wedding date."

Shi Luyu didn't answer and turned her gaze away.

She was too lazy to waste her breath.

She knew that what he said at that moment was not a genuine inquiry; he was merely putting on a show for the guests, letting everyone see his "indulgence" and "pampering" of her.

All she needs to do is cooperate with the performance and wait for the right opportunity.

The first group of people offering toasts quickly surrounded them.

A middle-aged man with slicked-back hair walked over carrying two crystal glasses, smiling broadly, and bowing slightly, raising the glasses to chest height.

"Mr. Xu, congratulations! Mrs. Xu is indeed elegant and poised; you two are a match made in heaven. This glass is a toast to you both!"

He handed one of the cups to Shi Luyu.

Just as Shi Luyu was about to reach out to take it, the hand next to her reached out even faster.

Xu Yuanjia's knuckles blocked her wrist, gently pressing down on her movement, and then he took the glass of wine from her.

He glanced at the wine glass, then looked up at the middle-aged man, his tone as casual as if he were talking about the weather: "My wife can't hold her liquor very well."

After he finished speaking, he drank the glass of wine and casually placed the empty glass on the tray of a passing waiter.

The middle-aged man was stunned for a moment, then nodded repeatedly, smiled apologetically, and stepped back.

Those around them understood what was going on.

The people who came over to offer toasts all looked at Shi Luyu, but instead handed their glasses to Xu Yuanjia.

Some people held champagne, others whiskey, and the toasts ranged from "Wishing you both a long and happy marriage" to "Mr. Xu has excellent taste," with a variety of toasts.

Xu Yuanjia accepted all the drinks offered, one cup after another, always standing beside Shi Luyu, his other hand firmly resting on her waist, his palm against her waistline.

Shi Luyu let the hand stay there, and even smiled at him when he looked down at her between conversations.

It is smooth enough.

Shi Luyu and the others who were offering toasts spread out a little and took the opportunity to sway their bodies slightly.

She leaned closer, resting her cheek against his shoulder, her voice soft and gentle:

"Brother, the smell of alcohol here is strong, and I feel dizzy. I want to go upstairs and rest for a while."

Xu Yuanjia looked down at her, and the corners of his mouth slowly curved up.

He seemed to enjoy her initiative in leaning closer, reaching out to brush a stray strand of hair from her temple, his fingertips brushing against her earlobe.

"it is good."

He beckoned the waiter over and whispered a few instructions.

Then he looked down at her again, lowering his voice even further.

"Sweetie, don't think your brother doesn't know what you're thinking. You can't escape. Just stay in your room and wait for your brother, okay?"

Shi Luyu's heart skipped a beat.

But her expression remained unchanged.

She looked up at him, her eyes crinkling at the corners, a faint smile playing on her lips: "Brother, why would I run away?"

Her voice was sweet and soft, and then she tiptoed and kissed him on the cheek in front of several people at the surrounding tables.

It was very light; her lips touched his skin and then withdrew, like a dewdrop falling on a leaf and quickly sliding away.

Xu Yuanjia's expression did not change, but he pinched her waist very lightly as he withdrew his hand.

His breathing slowed slightly. Joy overflowed from his eyes, impossible to suppress.

He immediately reached out and grasped her chin, lowered his head, and pressed his lips to hers.

That kiss was much heavier than hers, with a force that left no room for refusal. His tongue probed into the gap between her lips, sucking and sweeping, then withdrew, completing a kind of declaration.

"Go ahead." He released her and stepped aside to make way for her.

Shi Luyu turned and walked out of the banquet hall, her back straight and her steps unhurried.

As I walked past the carved wooden door, I caught a glimpse of a shadow at the corner of the corridor.

Once the footsteps and gazes behind her were blocked by the door, she quickened her pace.

The corridor was covered with thick carpet, so there was no sound when you stepped on it.

Around the corner, the brother and sister were standing next to a green plant. The boy leaned against the wall, frowning, holding a folded handkerchief in his hand.

The girl stood beside him, her eyes slightly red. As Shi Luyu walked over, they both looked up at the same time, their eyes filled with wariness and resistance.

Xu Wenzhou took half a step forward, shielding his younger sister behind him, his voice low, filled with impatience and hostility at being disturbed:

"It's you? You're Xu Yuanjia's woman? To be able to get close to someone like him who's indifferent to women, you must be no good person either."

He clenched his fists, refusing to let anyone near: "Speak! What are you doing here? Did Xu Yuanjia send you to harm my sister?"

Shi Luyu's chest heaved, her voice urgent and low: "There's no time to explain."

She stepped forward, looked directly at Xu Wenzhou, and said quickly and clearly, "I am indeed looking for you. I want to ask you for your help."
