Border Prisoner: The Mad Boss Seduces Her Every Night

Chapter 216 "No matter what you see later, don't make a sound."

The next morning, a brief sun shower fell in Mae Ninh.

The rain came quickly and went quickly.

A layer of lingering gray clouds still covered the horizon, but the sun had already shone down from behind the clouds, shining brightly on the wet stone street.

Water dripped continuously from the eaves, and raindrops splashed into the shallow puddles by the roadside, spreading out in concentric circles.

The Meinin River looked as if it had been washed clean, with a layer of shimmering gold floating on its surface. Occasionally, a narrow wooden boat would glide by, its oars breaking the shimmering water, which would then quickly gather back together.

The street stalls were set up early.

Someone was roasting glutinous rice on a charcoal stove, and the aroma of the rice, mixed with the damp smell of grass and wood after the rain, slowly drifted along the long street.

The old woman selling hot soup lifted the pot lid, and white steam rose up, blurring the colorful prayer flags hanging in front of the door.

Further on, there were people sitting under the eaves weaving garlands for worshipping the gods, their fingertips threading through fresh little flowers, with incense, candles, copper bells, and silver bowls filled with clear water beside them.

Neither of them mentioned what happened last night.

It was as if the door that suddenly closed, the bluffing confrontation, and Sheng Kun's retreating figure were all just insignificant little episodes in the night.

Shi Luyu didn't feel embarrassed.

Sheng Kun seemed to have no idea how to write the word "awkward."

Not long after dawn, he knocked on the door from outside, "Sister-in-law, get up."

There was no sound from inside. Sheng Kun waited for two seconds, then raised his hand and knocked again, his voice not loud, but with his usual irritating tone.

"No refunds if breakfast gets cold."

The door opened from the inside almost immediately.

Shi Luyu had changed into the local clothes she wore last night. Her indigo top was neatly tied, her long skirt reached her ankles, and her long black hair was all gathered into her headscarf, revealing only her clean face.

She had probably only been awake for a short time; there was still a slight weariness in the corners of her eyes, but her gaze was very clear.

She leaned against the doorframe and looked at him. "You'd better really have bought breakfast."

Sheng Kun stood outside the door, holding an oil paper package in one hand and two steaming cups of drinks in the other.

Unlike last night, he didn't deliberately try to squeeze through the door today. He just raised his chin and waved the thing in front of her.

He said with a hint of smugness, "When have I ever lied to you?"

Shi Luyu glanced at the paper package in his hand, her expression calm. "Do you need me to list them out?"

Sheng Kun immediately swallowed his words, "Then forget it."

He stepped aside, clearing the way at the top of the stairs, and without batting an eye, tried to justify himself, saying, "It'll affect our relationship."

Shi Luyu walked past him, a slight smile curving her lips.

Sheng Kun followed behind, still calling her "sister-in-law" repeatedly, his chatter just as sharp as it had been yesterday.

As they went downstairs, the wooden stairs became slippery from the rain. He walked on the outside, casually resting his arm on the railing, which conveniently shielded her from passersby.

On the last two steps, he casually stepped on a loose plank at the very edge, reminding me, "Don't step on this one, it almost sent me down last night."

Shi Luyu ducked and walked around him, "How come you didn't die from the fall?"

"He's got a tough life." Sheng Kun followed him down, laughing carefree. "Even Heaven couldn't bear to take him away."

This made Shi Luyu laugh and roll her eyes at him.

The innkeeper was carrying two bowls of hot soup to the corridor.

Chopped herbs and thin slices of meat floated in the soup, the milky white broth steaming, with two small dishes of pickled vegetables on the side. Sheng Kun approached familiarly and reached out to lift the bamboo basket behind the proprietress.

The proprietress slapped his hand away.

Sheng Kun wasn't annoyed. He pulled back and shook his head, still chattering, "Just take two eggs."

The proprietress held out her hand. "Add more money."

Shi Luyu had just sat down at the table when she heard those two words and looked up at Sheng Kun.

The morning light after the rain streamed in from the veranda, falling on her face. A hint of a smile appeared in her eyes, as if she had finally found some evidence.

"It seems to be a custom of Mei Ning."

Sheng Kun, without batting an eye, reached into his pocket for money. "See, sister-in-law, I'm not the only one who's greedy."

The proprietress rolled her eyes, took the change, and still scooped two hot eggs out of the basket. Sheng Kun reached for another one, but she tapped his hand with bamboo tongs, so he reluctantly gave up.

He returned with the bowl and placed the bowl with the extra egg in front of Shi Luyu.

My own bowl contained only a few thin slices of meat.

Shi Luyu glanced at it. "Not two?"

"The other one is here."

Sheng Kun took an egg out of the oil paper package, cracked it neatly on the edge of the table, peeled it, and stuffed it directly into his mouth. It was so hot that he gasped for breath, but he still stubbornly insisted on his words.

"Freshly cooked, very fresh."

Shi Luyu picked up the one from the bowl and put it on his plate.

Sheng Kun was taken aback. "Sister-in-law, aren't you going to eat?"

"I can't eat."

"Not feeling well? What's wrong? Are you not feeling well?" Sheng Kun couldn't help but feel a little nervous.

Shi Luyu said impatiently, "Why do you talk so much?"

Sheng Kun stared at the egg for two seconds, then suddenly grinned and said, "Okay."

He didn't stand on ceremony, picked up a piece and started eating, even trying to get a free bite, saying, "My sister-in-law loves me."

Shi Luyu lowered her head and drank her soup, too lazy to pay him any attention.

Sheng Kun, however, was clearly in a good mood, eating and greeting passersby as he went.

A young woman selling flower garlands passed by the door, saw him, raised her hand, and shouted something in the local language.

Sheng Kun immediately replied with a long string of words.

The girl laughed so hard she couldn't stand up straight, and before leaving, she threw him a small string of white flowers.

Sheng Kun reached out and caught it, then turned and placed it on the table next to Shi Luyu. "This is for you."

Shi Luyu glanced at the flower wreath. "Why did she give it to me?"

"You're pretty, that's why," Sheng Kun said matter-of-factly.

She was clearly cursing at you just now.

Sheng Kun's smile faltered for a moment. "You understand?"

"I don't understand," Shi Luyu said slowly, stirring the soup. "But I'll be confused."

Sheng Kun was speechless for a long time.

The fishmonger next door was passing by and called out to him from across the street.

Sheng Kun turned around and retorted, and the two sides went back and forth, neither willing to lose. Before long, the stall owner selling roasted glutinous rice also joined in, and even the innkeeper's wife stood behind the counter, slapping the table and laughing.

Shi Luyu sat on the veranda, watching Sheng Kun provoke half the street with his mouth, and suddenly understood why he dared to say that he was the local bully of Mei Ning.

He seemed to know everyone here.

When the old man selling incense saw him, he casually tossed him a piece of newly braided red rope.

When a boatman passes by, he will tap him on the shoulder with his boat pole.

Even the little kids chasing chickens at the door dared to rush over and rummage through his pockets.

Sheng Kun grumbled and cursed, but he didn't actually chase the boy away. He took out two pieces of candy from his pocket and gave one to each of them. In the end, the boy was still not satisfied and reached for the eggs on his table.

Sheng Kun reacted quickly, grabbing it protectively. "This won't do."

The child stared at him.

Sheng Kun pointed to Shi Luyu next to him, "This was given to me by my sister-in-law."

He spoke with such conviction, as if that egg were some extraordinary treasure.

Upon hearing this, Shi Luyu glanced up at him.

Sheng Kun immediately pretended not to see it, lowered his head and continued drinking his soup, but he couldn't suppress the smile on his lips.

The sunlight gradually brightened.

The rain has completely stopped.

The puddles on the stone-paved street reflected the light, and the trousers and skirts of passersby were damp. The mornings in Mae Ninh were lively, yet not noisy. The sound of chanting drifted from across the river, occasionally punctuated by drumbeats, mingling with laughter from the street, creating a surprisingly reassuring atmosphere.

Shi Luyu held the hot soup in her hands, her shoulders and back gradually relaxing.

If they weren't on the run.

If it weren't for the person who was always relentlessly chasing after her.

Mei Ning is actually a great place to stop and live.

Sheng Kun finished eating quickly and reached for the untouched pickled vegetables in front of her, but suddenly stopped halfway.

His gaze passed over Shi Luyu's shoulder and landed at the street corner.

That playful grin gradually faded into silence.

Shi Luyu noticed his change and followed his gaze.

Two SUVs slowly drove up to the end of the long street after the rain.

The car was covered in mud, but the license plate was not from Mei Ning.

The car wasn't moving fast, as if it were inspecting the shops along the street one by one. The man in the passenger seat was wearing a hat, his gaze sweeping over the pedestrians from behind the window, cold and wary.

Sheng Kun put down his chopsticks with a slight movement.

He didn't immediately show any unusual expression; he simply picked up the bowl again and casually took a sip of the now-cold soup.

"Sister-in-law," he said, still in that nonchalant tone.

"No matter what you see later, don't make a sound."

Shi Luyu tensed up instantly and looked at him.

Sheng Kun smiled at her.

This time, however, there was no hint of a joke in those usually shrewd and cunning eyes. "Eat yours."

He said, "Let me see if they've come to collect a debt from me."
