Border Prisoner: The Mad Boss Seduces Her Every Night
Chapter 56 My Little Rabbit
The moment Xu Yuanjia stepped off the helicopter, the sounds of gunfire on the battlefield suddenly became less important.
Xu Yuanjia didn't look at the battle lines that were still raging. He turned his head and said something to a scarred man behind him, his tone as indifferent as if he were ordering what to have for dinner.
Scarface nodded, turned around, raised his arm, and made a gesture toward the sky.
Three signal flares were launched simultaneously, exploding into blood-red dots of light in the night sky.
The next moment, Xu Yuanjia's troops opened fire.
Snipers pulled the trigger from the ridge, precisely targeting and eliminating enemy positions; each shot corresponded to a missed shot from an enemy firing point. Heavy machine guns suppressed the enemy's advance, their bullets drawing dense lines of fire across the night sky, cutting the fleeing troops in two.
In three minutes, the defensive line on the west side, which was on the verge of collapse, was successfully stabilized.
Five minutes later, the attacking force from northern Myanmar was forced to retreat.
Eight minutes later, the gunfire from the Lao side subsided.
The entire battle situation was as if it had been reset.
Xu Chenglin stood beside the command vehicle, watching as his own scattered lines were regrouped with the intervention of Xu Yuanjia's troops. His face was ashen, like he had swallowed gunpowder.
His soldiers began to retreat and regroup, while Xu Yuanjia's men did not pursue, but instead firmly blocked all the key intersections, cutting the battlefield into several unconnected fragments.
This isn't someone who's here to help him fight the war.
This is to tell him: "I can guard this line for you, but I can also take your life at any time."
Xu Chenglin gripped the gun in his hand tightly, turned around and strode towards the tent where Shi Luyu was being held.
When he lifted the curtain and went in, Shi Luyu had just managed to sit up. Her skirt was haphazardly pulled down to cover her legs, and there were still red marks on her wrists from being pinched. The tear stains on her face were still wet.
Xu Chenglin grabbed her arm and dragged her off the bed. Shi Luyu stumbled and bumped into his chest; before she could regain her balance, his hand was already around her neck.
"Come with me!"
He grabbed her and pushed her away. Shi Luyu was pushed so hard that her toes almost left the ground. She could only desperately tiptoe to keep up with his pace, and she could only gasp for breath intermittently.
Outside the tent, Xu Yuanjia had already walked to the center of the camp.
Behind him stood the scarred man and a dozen fully armed soldiers, each of their gazes fixed on Xu Chenglin like nails.
Xu Chenglin grabbed Shi Luyu and walked out of the tent, stopping about fifty meters away from Xu Yuanjia, across a trench.
He increased the pressure on her hand, and Shi Luyu winced in pain, letting out a muffled groan as her neck was forced back, revealing her vulnerable jawline.
Xu Chenglin stared at Xu Yuanjia, a ferocious smile twisting his lips: "Step back."
Xu Yuanjia did not move.
"I said back off!" Xu Chenglin tightened his grip, and Shi Luyu's face began to turn red. She instinctively tried to pry his fingers apart, but her strength was no match for his.
Xu Yuanjia raised his hand, and the soldiers behind him all took three steps back. He himself did not move.
Xu Chenglin narrowed his eyes: "Back off again!"
Without a second thought, Xu Yuanjia did as he wished, raising his hand to order his men to retreat another ten meters.
Xu Chenglin seemed surprised by how smoothly things went, paused for a moment, then laughed even more wildly. He dragged Shi Luyu forward two steps, pulled the gun from his waist, and pointed it at Xu Yuanjia.
"And one more thing," Xu Chenglin gestured with his chin toward the scarred man behind Xu Yuanjia, "make sure your entire army withdraws from my camp."
Xu Yuanjia glanced at Scarface and nodded slightly. Scarface gritted his teeth, waved his hand to give the order, but his cautious gun barrel remained fully lowered.
Xu Chenglin's eyes grew even more crazed. He loosened his grip on Shi Luyu's neck slightly, letting her catch her breath, before tightening it again.
"Xu Yuanjia, don't say I, as your younger brother, didn't give you a chance." His voice was very low, so low that only a few people nearby could hear it. "Shoot yourself."
Xu Yuanjia glanced down at the gun at his waist, then looked up at Xu Chenglin, raising an eyebrow.
"Where to?" he asked, his tone even carrying a hint of curiosity.
Xu Chenglin's pupils reflected the still-burning flames in the distance: "Your right leg. I want that leg of yours, and you'll remember the price for messing with me for the rest of your life."
Scarface couldn't hold back any longer and took a step forward: "Don't push your luck, Xu Chenglin! He just kicked you at the family dinner, and you want to cripple his leg? You deserved to be kicked!"
Xu Chenglin abruptly turned his head and glared at the scarred man, his eyes filled with a crazed rage, like a wild beast unleashed from its cage: "I've gone far beyond just bullying people!"
He laughed: "I'm going to tell this woman, right in front of you, Xu Yuanjia, what your true colors are."
He turned back and stared intently at the scarred man:
"Is it too much of me to cripple his leg? Compared to Xu Yuanjia, I'm practically a bodhisattva descended to earth!"
Shi Luyu was being choked and struggling to breathe, but she still managed to squeeze out a voice: "You...are you really Jiajia's brother? But can't brothers talk things out properly?"
Xu Chenglin lowered his head, leaned close to her ear, and his lips almost touched her earlobe.
"Brother?" He sneered, his voice so soft it was as if he were speaking only to her. "What a joke!"
"Let me tell you, Xu Yuanjia even betrayed his own brother—"
"Bang!"
A deafening sound rang out—a gunshot.
All eyes turned simultaneously to the source of the sound—
No one saw how quickly Xu Yuanjia drew his gun and fired a shot into his own thigh.
The gun barrel dipped to the ground, blood seeping from the fabric of his thigh, quickly soaking through his dark combat trousers, dripping down the legs and into the mud with a soft pattering sound.
The man's expression remained almost unchanged.
He didn't even frown. His lips were a little pale, and his jawline was taut.
The entire room fell silent.
Even Xu Chenglin didn't expect that Xu Yuanjia would be so ruthless as to show no mercy to him.
"Brother Jiajia!!"
Shi Luyu's scream shattered the deathly silence.
She suddenly found strength and pushed away Xu Chenglin's hands that were gripping her neck, breaking free and stumbling towards Xu Yuanjia.
Xu Chenglin was pushed to the side by her, and it took him a moment to react. He raised the gun in his hand, pointing the muzzle at Shi Luyu's back.
Just before pulling the trigger.
A completely different, dull, and enormous roar exploded from his side.
Scarface was faster; he picked up a small rocket launcher and fired it, smoke billowing from the muzzle.
The shell flew past Xu Chenglin, leaving a trail of flame, and exploded on the ground not far behind him. Soil and gravel were thrown into the air, and the shockwave slammed him into the trench next to him.
He rolled into the ditch, his head hitting the hard soil, and his vision went black for a moment.
Shi Luyu was caught in the blast wave and her petite figure fell forward.
Xu Yuanjia suddenly rushed over, knelt down on his injured leg, and used his body to cushion her fall.
She fell onto his chest and heard him groan.
"Brother Jiajia!" She hurriedly tried to get up from him. "Are you alright? You're still injured. Don't come to pick me up. Why were you so silly..."
She braced her hands on either side of his shoulders, trying to get up, but his arms encircled her, holding her waist tightly and pulling her into his embrace.
She lay on his chest, burying her face in the crook of his neck, and smelled the strong scent of blood.
He held her so tightly that she could feel blood seeping from his thigh, the warm liquid soaking her skirt.
"I told you not to let anyone touch you, so I won't let you get hurt." His voice came down from above, somewhat weak and unsteady, but his familiar, nonchalant tone remained unchanged.
Shi Luyu looked up at him.
The firelight shone from afar, casting his face in half-light and half-shadow. He had lost a lot of blood, and his pale complexion revealed a gloomy and somber air, but his eyes were still bright, as if they contained the stars of the night.
He looked down at her, a slow smile spreading across his lips, a smile that pierced the heart.
"My little rabbit, why can't you ever learn to stay away from danger?"
