My Wandering Swordsman
Chapter 38 A Pot of Porridge
Kangyu Elderly Care Service Co., Ltd.
A gold-plated plaque hangs at the entrance, which looks quite impressive.
I explained my purpose to the gatekeeper, and soon after, the man with the gold-rimmed glasses came downstairs and greeted me from afar.
My heart skipped a beat.
Oh no, I forgot about this gentleman.
Yesterday I spent the whole day moving goods in the warehouse, and this guy was watching us the whole time. Even though I've changed my clothes, his face is still the same.
If he recognizes me, this whole charade won't be working out.
The man with the gold-rimmed glasses approached, paused for a moment when he saw me, opened his mouth, but forgot to even greet me.
My mind raced, and before he could speak, I preemptively switched to a broken Hong Kong accent: "Hello, hello, I have an appointment with Mr. Lui. Please lead the way."
The man with the gold-rimmed glasses stared at me for several seconds, his gaze sweeping across my face before glancing at the Flower Monk and Liu Zi behind me.
Fortunately, my two brothers were reliable; their eyes were as cold as knives.
The man with the gold-rimmed glasses frowned, said nothing more, and forced a smile: "This way, please, all of you."
I followed him upstairs, secretly relieved. This outfit really came in handy; clothes make the man, and the ancients were right.
The office was on the third floor. As soon as I opened the door, I was hit by a strong smell of smoke.
A middle-aged man in his fifties sat behind a large desk.
Hearing the door open, he looked up and glanced at us, his gaze lingering on me for a moment before falling on Monk Hua and Liu Zi, his eyes narrowing slightly.
This is Lü Guodong.
It has to be said that compared to the eldest prince, his father does have a bit of a boss's air about him. His eyes are gleaming, and he doesn't look like someone who can be easily fooled.
"Mr. Lü, our distinguished guest has arrived." The man with the gold-rimmed glasses said this and then left, closing the door behind him.
Lu Guodong stood up, walked around the desk, and extended his hand: "Hello, hello, what's your name?"
I quickly grasped his hand and continued in my Hong Kong accent, "My surname is Ji, you can just call me Mr. Ji. Mr. Lu, I've heard so much about you."
"Mr. Ji? Judging from your accent, you're from Hong Kong?"
"Yes, yes, we're in the audio-visual business. A friend recommended that Mr. Lu has some good stock, so I flew over specifically to take a look."
Lu Guodong smiled and gestured for us to sit down, but his gaze kept lingering on me, especially on the ill-fitting suits of Hua Heshang and Liu Zi, which he looked at a few more times.
My heart skipped a beat; I knew that the old fox had become suspicious.
"Ji Sheng, you just said you heard it from Xiao Qing?" Lu Guodong sat back in his chair, lit a cigarette, and asked slowly.
"Yes, Mr. Lu Xiaoqing told me that Mr. Lu has a batch of videotapes that are of good quality and reasonably priced, so I came to take a look."
"What else did he tell you?"
"He didn't say much, just that Mr. Lu is in the wholesale business and told me to contact you directly."
Lu Guodong took a drag of his cigarette, exhaled a puff of smoke, and sized me up through the smoke: "Ji Sheng, you're in the audio-visual business, you should know that this industry is tough these days. The authorities are cracking down hard, and it's hard to find sources of goods."
"Of course I know, that's why I came here specifically to take a look at Mr. Lu's goods. I heard Mr. Lu just returned from a business trip to Hong Kong, probably to discuss business, right?"
Lu Guodong's eyes flashed, but he didn't respond to that question. Instead, he asked, "Ji Sheng, how much do you plan to ask for?"
"That depends on the quality. If the quality is good and the price is right, I'll buy them all."
"All of them?" Lu Guodong laughed. "President Ji, you have quite the appetite."
"In business, there are big opportunities and small opportunities. Mr. Lu, would it be convenient for you to take a look at the price list? I'd like to see the prices so I have a better idea of what to expect."
Lu Guodong flicked his cigarette ash and said slowly, "Mr. Ji, don't be in a hurry. Have some tea first, and we can talk slowly."
He pressed the bell on the table, and someone outside answered.
I was secretly getting anxious. This old fox was playing coy, never getting to the point.
The stack of documents in his hand was most likely a price list, but he just wouldn't let me see it.
"Mr. Lu, I'm a bit pressed for time. I have to catch a flight back to Hong Kong tonight. Why don't you take a look at the price list first? If it's suitable, I'll place the order right away."
"Ji Sheng, you're in too much of a hurry." Lu Guodong shook his head with a smile. "Doing business is all about fate. You've come all the way from Hong Kong, so I should at least show you some hospitality and have dinner with you tonight."
"No need for a meal, Mr. Lu. I'm a legitimate business owner. Show me your price list, and I promise I won't treat you unfairly."
Lu Guodong squinted at me for a moment, then suddenly asked, "Ji Sheng, do you know Boss Liu from Hong Kong?"
Boss Liu?
How would I know anything about this Boss Liu? I don't even have a Hong Kong passport.
However, I kept a straight face and said with a smile, "Boss Liu? Is that the Boss Liu who makes audio and video products? I know him, but we're not very close."
Lu Guodong nodded, his eyes flickering a few times.
I was just figuring out how to steer the conversation back to the price list when the office door was suddenly pushed open.
A young man in a company uniform walked in carrying a tea tray: "Mr. Lü, the tea is here. Sorry to keep you waiting..."
He looked up, saw our faces, and slammed the tea tray in his hand to the ground with a clatter.
I, the Flower Monk, and Liu Zi were also stunned.
That's fucking unlucky!
Isn't this the Crown Prince's henchman? The other day when we were teaching the Crown Prince a lesson on set, this kid rushed over to break up the fight, only to be kicked away by the monk.
The teapot shattered, and tea spilled all over the floor.
Lu Guodong frowned: "Xiao Wang, what are you doing?"
The henchman's face turned deathly pale, his finger trembling as he pointed at us: "Mr. Lü, it's...it's them..."
"What happened to them?"
"It's them! They're the ones who injured Young Master Qing!"
"What?"
Lu Guodong's face immediately darkened, his eyes piercing me like knives: "Ji Sheng, what's going on?"
My mind raced, and I was about to start explaining.
The Flower Monk stood up before me, stepping in front of me to block my path, staring coldly at his follower: "You've mistaken me for someone else."
As soon as the words left my mouth, I knew I was in trouble.
The Flower Monk speaks mainland Chinese.
Lu Guodong jolted, his gaze shifting briefly to the monk before fixing firmly on me:
"Ji Sheng, is your henchman from mainland China?"
I took a deep breath, about to speak—
A sudden commotion arose in the corridor.
"Miss, you can't go in. Mr. Lü is meeting with a distinguished guest." This was the voice of the man with the gold-rimmed glasses.
"I have an appointment with Mr. Lü at this time. Don't stop me. Do you know who I am? I have something important to discuss."
"Miss, please don't put me in a difficult position."
"Get out of the way!"
No sooner had he finished speaking than the office door was suddenly pushed open.
A woman strode in.
I looked up and saw her face.
When our eyes met, I was dumbfounded again.
Auntie?
Why is she here?
My aunt clearly recognized me too. She glanced at the Flower Monk and Liu Zi behind me, her brows furrowed slightly, and she swallowed the words she was about to say.
The office was eerily quiet.
Sweat instantly broke out on my forehead.
Now things are really in complete chaos.
