Chapter 15 Why Did Humanity Go Extinct?
In the classroom of the Methodist Society's training center, Elena flipped through the training materials distributed by the teacher. She recognized the individual letters and most of the words, but when they were combined into sentences, she couldn't understand what they meant.
The computer software operation explained by the teacher on the podium was almost like a foreign language.
This is a free skills training program offered to believers through a collaboration between the Methodist Church and the Methodist Association.
Because free food was distributed after the training, Elena, despite feeling drowsy, refrained from leaving.
There's enough food for tomorrow's breakfast, and considering that idiot Martin, we can save at least $6.
Harris wants to apply to college, but even if she goes to a cheaper public university, the cost will still be considerable.
These troublesome matters were so complicated that Elena's head was about to explode.
After finally making it to the end of the training, Juliet at the next table asked, "Are you going to the support group meeting tomorrow afternoon?"
"I haven't decided yet." Even Elena, who was thick-skinned as a wall, found it absurd.
Juliet was very enthusiastic: "Come on, let's go together. Ms. Jennifer will be hosting tomorrow afternoon, and she's brought a gift."
Upon hearing about the gift, Elena suppressed the swear word that was about to slip out and said, "I'll think about it some more and give you an answer tomorrow morning."
The mutual aid society, sponsored by the Methodist Society, is held weekly.
After Elena collected her food, she came out of the training center. The Ford's headlights flashed, illuminating the night. She ran over and got into the passenger seat.
Martin started the car, glanced around, and said, "There's a lot of good stuff here."
"Of course!" Elena placed two large paper bags on the back seat. "Who would listen to these idiotic lessons if they didn't give us something?"
Martin added indirectly, "Learn more skills and find a stable job."
Elena said, "I just want to make money."
Martin, knowing her family's situation, said, "I got a job from my boss that needs help. If you do a good job, you'll get at least $500."
This is an expense that is accounted for separately by the club.
Elena thought of the last time: "Idiot Harris, break your arm again? I'm fine with it."
"There's no need to be so cruel," Martin said roughly. "Are you familiar with the Methodists?"
Elena shrugged: "It's alright, the people I can talk to are all extremely conservative."
She remembered what Juliet had said: "The Methodists are having a mutual aid meeting tomorrow, supposedly hosted by an important person named Jennifer, who will also bring gifts. I hope they're not some damn paper cranes and lucky stars."
Martin considered for a moment: "Are you going to take the job or not? If you do, you'll participate tomorrow."
Elena retorted, "You want me to participate in that event?"
Martin laughed and said, "Go ahead, do me a favor. Contact a few more people and treat them to drinks and fun at the club for free..."
Elena said, "I called Monica, and she offered free food and drinks and nightclubs. No need to mobilize her."
Ford drove into the Clayton neighborhood, and Martin drove into the backyard of the house and parked where James was buried.
The wheels compacted the ground.
James didn't object at all, which means the two of them did the right thing.
…………
Around noon, Bruce parked his pickup truck, carrying a large stack of newspapers and documents, and went into the Beast House.
Aside from that idiot Ivan guarding the porch, the only other person in the club is that moron Martin.
Bruce placed the object on the circular stage and asked, "Why do you have the authority to tell me what to do?"
Martin tossed him a can of beer, opened one for himself, and said, "That's the difference between a smart man and a civilized man."
Bruce sat on the stage: "They're all betting on how long it will take you to get on this stage."
Martin boasted, "My dancing is terrifying. One backflip and the Earth explodes, wiping out humanity."
Bruce finished his beer and accurately tossed the can into the trash can: "This is the first time I've seen someone be this shameless."
"Because you're too inexperienced." Martin also threw away the can, took out two sets of pens and notebooks, and gave one set to Bruce: "Stop talking nonsense and do what Boss Martin tells you to do."
He picked up a stack of newspapers and magazines: "All the major print, radio, and television media in Atlanta have news hotlines and prize-winning news submissions. Write down all the corresponding media phone numbers. Boss Martin will make you rich."
"We can't break the law, we're civilized people!" Bruce complained, but his hands didn't slow down as he got to work.
…………
The area in the northwest of the Atlanta metropolitan area, bordering Marietta.
Elena joined Juliet and entered a branch of the Methodist Church.
Upon arriving at the large conference room, seven or eight people sat in chairs, forming a large circle.
Jennifer, dressed conservatively, beckoned the two of them to come and sit down.
A few minutes later, five more people arrived at the conference room.
Jennifer, who was leading the chastity support group, said loudly, "I am proud of you for your willingness to purify your minds and bodies and become the glory and pride of your families!"
She looked around: "So, who should we start with?"
A girl in her early twenties was the first to stand up and recount her experience.
Juliet followed and, as she sat down, gave Elena a wink.
Elena was mentally preparing herself, avoiding her habitual swearing. She slowly stood up, and amidst everyone's encouraging gazes, said, "I want to talk about a painful experience that haunts me like a nightmare. I hope to use your help to purify this unclean memory."
Jennifer smiled warmly: "Child, please speak up."
Elena, as she had practiced with Martin, widened her eyes and feigned terror: "One night last weekend, my friend and I stumbled into a bar called 'House of the Beast' on Saijo Street. Everything there was so crazy..."
She racked her brains to describe the depravity of the Wild Things House and the negative impact it had on those around her.
At some point, Jennifer took out a pen and notebook and asked, "Saijo Daido? The House of the Beasts?"
Elena said, "Yes."
