Chapter 233 Old Bastard

A new week begins, and Martin ends his vacation and starts a new job.

After a long period of pre-production, the crew of "The Departed" is about to enter the filming stage.

Before heading to New York for filming, the crew held a script meeting and a meeting with the main creative team at Warner Bros. Studios.

Ten minutes later, he came out of the bathroom, gently patted Allen's wrinkled face, and said, "Honey, you can keep sleeping. I have to go to the film set."

"I know." Allen released his grip, feeling so comfortable that he didn't even want to get up. "Considering how well you did last night, let me remind you and your boss that working on a big film set is tough, especially for people like you. Your direct competitors from the audition are still on set."

Menez asked, "Any suggestions?"

Allen didn't answer, but instead said, "I'll wait for you here, and come back tonight."

Grandpa Menez made a firm decision: once she recovered during the day, he would make sure she was sweet enough to beg for mercy that night: "I'll be there promptly at seven o'clock tonight."

Allen said calmly, "Scholes only has the Oscar for Best Director in his eyes right now. Anyone who stands in his way of winning the award will become his enemy. So, no matter what happens on set, don't interfere with filming or work."

She stretched and said, "Besides Scorsese, the person with the most influence in the crew is Leonardo. He recommended your boss to the crew. Try to get on good terms with Leonardo; it won't do you any harm."

Menez nodded and said, "See you tonight."

After leaving the hotel, he drove to the Warner Bros. building, waited in the lobby for a while, and met Martin and Bruce.

"Boss." Mene took the initiative to approach him.

Martin called out to him, "Come on, let's go up together."

As Menez walked, he told Martin what Allen had said.

Martin patted Menez on the shoulder: "We should be kind to others and strive to be good people wherever we are, but a good person is not a coward, but someone who will beat the bad guys down when they do bad things."

Menez said, "Boss, I'll do whatever you say."

Martin and Menez went into the film crew's meeting room together, where six or seven people were sitting around the long conference table.

The meeting room was very messy, with many things scattered on the floor and tables.

A miniature doll lay by the door, its crucial part revealing half of a black cylinder. Nearby, a small ball bound with a leather belt lay on the ground, and further ahead, there was a black, flower-shaped whip resembling a whisk.

Further inside, there were at least a dozen different kinds of sex toys.

This made Martin subconsciously wonder if he had come to the wrong place, that he hadn't come to Scorsese's film crew, but to Jenner's film crew.

Martin's gaze quickly shifted from those to the person sitting at the head of the left side of the conference table.

Judging by appearance alone, this person looks like a villain by nature.

Jack Nicholson!

From the looks in the eyes of the others, Martin guessed that these toys were related to Nicholson.

He stepped over the miniature doll and came to the right side of the conference table.

According to the crew's default rules, the first seat should definitely be Leonardo's.

Martin should either sit in the second seat or in Jack Nicholson's current position.

But he noticed that the second chair had a cushion on it, the kind that's very common.

Some people like to put a soft cushion on their office chair or meeting chair.

Martin glanced around; the other chairs were empty.

Without hesitation, he gave up the second chair, which represented his status in the crew, and sat in the third seat.

Menez sat on his other side.

Jack Nicholson turned to look at Martin, a wide grin spreading across his face, just like the evil Joker he played.

Martin smiled at him, but didn't say anything.

The two had no prior connection.

In the following minutes, the rest of the crew came in one after another. Most of them were surprised to see the sex toys all over the floor. The veterans, in particular, naturally turned their attention to Jack Nicholson.

This is clearly not the first time Jack Nicholson has done this.

Leonardo DiCaprio walked in then, saw the miniature doll, and couldn't help but laugh: "Are you giving away free gifts?"

Martin greeted him, "Hi, Leo."

Leonardo nodded at him and said directly, "You're amazing, making Kate so happy. Be careful Sam comes knocking on your door to fight you."

Martin knew he was referring to Sam Mendes and couldn't help but laugh: "Kate and I are just friends."

Matt Damon then entered through the door, glanced at the seats, and seeing that seat number two next to Leonardo was empty, he sat down without any hesitation.

He sat down in the middle, and Martin and Leonardo lost interest in chatting.

Matt Damon greeted Leonardo DiCaprio, then turned to Martin and extended his right hand: "You did something truly remarkable."

Whether he was referring to the Burbank High School incident or something else, Martin didn't bother to guess. He shook hands with Damon, and that omnipotent phrase immediately popped into his head: "I'm a fan of yours, a huge fan. Bourne is so cool."

An honest man can't achieve what Damon has. Damon echoed Martin's words, saying, "You, as a fan, have surpassed even your favorite stars."

Martin retorted directly: "When fans love a celebrity to the extreme, certain things naturally happen."

Damon laughed, his smile as honest and simple as his appearance.

Director Scorsese was the last to enter, glanced at the special effects equipment scattered all over the floor, and said, "Jack, you've got this again!"

Nicholson's smile had a wicked quality: "Just having meetings is so boring, let's add some fun."

Scorsese, whom he had known for almost thirty years, didn't seem to care much. He pulled out a chair, sat down, and said, "The script reading will begin."

Everyone took out their scripts and began to read them carefully.

The assistant director turned on the slide projector, and Scorsese, drawing on his own work, explained the plot and the complex relationships between the characters to everyone.

When Scorsese finished his explanation and picked up his water bottle to drink, Nicholson suddenly pulled a small remote control from his pants pocket and pressed a button.

puff--

The sound of a fart echoed throughout the entire conference room, both loud and long.

The sound was coming from Martin and Leonardo's area, so they heard it most clearly and turned to look at Matt Damon in the middle.

All eyes immediately followed Martin and Leonardo, turning towards Matt Damon.

As the farting noise subsided, Matt Damon innocently declared, "It wasn't me."

Nicholson quietly pressed the remote control again.

puff--

A loud and long fart came from under Matt Damon's butt.

There was something strange on everyone's face.

Leonardo unconsciously moved back, trying to get as far away from Damon as possible.

Matt Damon jumped to his feet, grabbed the cushion from his chair, and shouted, "Who? Who did this?!"

Several people glanced furtively at Jack Nicholson.

Martin smiled at Nicholson; normally, he should be sitting in Matt Damon's chair.

Unexpectedly, Nicholson pulled out the remote control, placed it on the table, and chuckled, saying, "I made this. This kind of thing is very boring and dull. We always have to find some fun."

He looked at Matt Damon: "It was just a little prank. You wouldn't hold a grudge against an old man, would you?"

Matt Damon threw a cushion onto the conference table.

Before Matt Damon could get angry, Nicholson said to Martin, "Originally, I wanted to play a joke on the Los Angeles... no, the American hero, but the hero didn't take that seat and chose someone else."

Matt Damon turned to look at Martin, and seeing Martin's surprised and innocent expression, he could only plop back down in his chair.

Menez tried to move, but Martin quietly pulled him back, turned his eyes to Nicholson, and smiled and nodded at him.

Nicholson didn't care at all; he had done similar things far too often.

Scorsese finished his water and said, "Jack, your pranks end here. Don't show up on set again."

Nicholson said, "I promise!"

Martin seemed to realize something; Scorsese's relationship with that old bastard was clearly unusual.

The script reading went very smoothly afterward, and everyone seemed to have forgotten about it.

When the meeting ended and Scorsese left, Matt Damon immediately got up and walked out.

Ignoring everyone else, Martin approached Leonardo and asked, "How about we grab a drink sometime?"

Leonard said something else: "I heard from Kate that you organized a really great themed party that even won over that picky old man Wes Craven."

Martin nodded: "That's true."

Leonardo lowered his voice: "New York is a hub for supermodels. I'm planning to contact a few and rent a yacht or a mansion for a party. Could you help me plan it? These kinds of parties in the industry are just too boring."

Two scenarios automatically popped into Martin's mind, one of which was Leonardo's favorite water gun party.

But then I thought, this guy likes this kind of thing, he must have done it a lot in private.

He asked, "What level of model?"

When it comes to supermodels, Leonardo DiCaprio is quite confident: "For Victoria's Secret Angels, if I extend an invitation, there will definitely be people willing to come."

Martin then asked, "Are they willing to cooperate?"

Leonardo DiCaprio is exceptionally arrogant in this regard: "Of course."

Martin agreed: "I'll think about it carefully over this period of time."

Suddenly, a large head popped out. It was Jack Nicholson, that unpredictable guy, sprawled on the conference table, his head sticking out like a long turtle: "You two bastards, count me in, or I'll call and report you!"

Martin sized up the old man, who looked like a villain, but couldn't see through him at all.

Nicholson scoffed, "I just live life on my own terms, doing whatever I want, unlike you guys who wear masks on every day."

I forget which Hollywood star played this fart cushion prank, but I remember there was some gossip about it.
