Chapter 37 Ritual Celebration

After speaking with Elsa and Yord, Ron learned about their origins and some of their past deeds.

Elsa, 16, and her brother Yord are native residents of West Bayran. However, unlike Roy, their father did not abandon them but became a victim of West Bayran's chaos and colonial conflicts.

Their mother also died suddenly after her husband's death, leaving the two siblings to depend on each other for survival.

Because they had no relatives or friends in West Bailang and their distinctive appearance was very noticeable in the Southern Continent, they encountered a lot of discrimination and were forced to wander from town to town.

It wasn't until they met Roy Moore in Putuo that the three poor children found solace and shelter in this small town.

At least there's no need to worry about getting wet in the rain or being blown away by the wind, so you have a safe place to stay.

"Ron, does Backlund really have gaslights illuminating the entire city at night?"

"My father told me that almost everything can be found there, and that people of all races are represented, so you won't encounter discrimination!"

"Ron, Ron, I've heard Backlund is very wealthy, everyone longs to go there, and the people living there must be very happy!"

After getting to know Ron better, the three teenagers stopped being wary of this strange boy who had suddenly appeared in Putuo City and began asking him all sorts of questions out of curiosity.

Only now have they let go of their adult demeanor and truly become like children, full of curiosity about everything.

Ron was also dutifully replying, but his answers were incredibly realistic, shattering the beautiful fantasies of the three innocent children with every word.

Clearly, this alien being, though possessing some humanity, doesn't have very high emotional intelligence.

"No, those streetlights can't illuminate the whole city. It's not like that in some poor areas, like the East Side, where the streetlights are often broken and sparse."

"In fact, Backlund is discriminatory, but they mostly discriminate against the savage Fursac and the flashy, rooster-like Intis."

"Most of Backlund's wealth is in the hands of big merchants, bankers, and nobles. In fact, many people there still live a life of eating black bread in the morning, black bread at noon, and black bread in the evening."

Ron spoke slowly and deliberately about the information he had received from the spirit world, completely unaware of the incredulous expressions on the three children's faces.

After all, the distant Backlund was not only a reminder of their deceased loved ones, but also a yearning and fantasy for their own better life.

"This...this doesn't even sound as good as Putuo City!"

"At least here, we still have Gwadar and those wild fruits we picked in the wild!"

The youngest, Yord, was somewhat disheartened. The almost perfect Backlund he had imagined seemed less livable than this small border town on the southern continent.

"No, Jord, that's wrong!"

Every place has its good and bad sides; we cannot deny its good aspects just because of its shortcomings!

Roy Moore spoke up somewhat anxiously, encouraging Jord from the sidelines.

This boy with rough blond hair and emerald green eyes has great enthusiasm for everything.

Even though he himself was quite hurt by Ron's words, he didn't forget to comfort Yodl at this moment and try to help him cheer up.

Elsa, sitting to the side, watched this scene and covered her mouth to chuckle. As a girl with a more delicate mind, her thoughts were more complex and far-reaching than those of the two boys.

After hearing Ron's words, she was also discouraged and felt down, but she also realized more quickly that fantasy is just fantasy.

"By the way, Roy, did you know that Putuo City is preparing for a ritual tonight? It seems that the Restoration Society defeated the Fusaks on the front lines and reclaimed many cities that were occupied by those barbarians."

"A festival celebration!?"

Upon hearing Elsa's words, Roy Moore's attention was immediately diverted, and he quickly shifted the topic to the sacrificial festival.

"Naputo is sure to become very lively!"

"Yes! And the festival will feature all sorts of foods that you can't find nowadays!"

"We can take this opportunity to stock up on some essential supplies in the city!"

The young girl took over the conversation, acting like a real housekeeper, counting on her fingers the things that needed to be done during the celebration.

This celebration, which evolved from the traditional beliefs of the Southern Continent, is a rare event for other local residents, but for these three teenagers, it is the best time to stock up on supplies!

Normally, the people here wouldn't be so generous; they would drive away Elsa and others who have Rune blood and don't look like them.

During festivals, due to the large flow of people, they are often overlooked. They can take advantage of this opportunity to find many valuable items, as well as old and broken utensils that have been discarded by the residents.

This is an invaluable "treasure" for them!

Perhaps it was anticipation of the lively death celebration that night, or perhaps it was the belief that they would surely gain something tonight; Roy, Elsa, and Yord all wore excited and expectant smiles.

"Ron, are you coming with us?"

Roy Moore noticed his new friend's curiosity and extended a warm invitation to him.

Before Ron could even adjust his monocle to respond, he heard Elsa, sitting in the worn-out chair in front of him, retort to Ron's words.

"Ron is a guest, and a true gentleman of Loen, how could he possibly do those things with us!?"

The girl was always very perceptive. From the moment she met Ron, she knew that Ron was not from their world.

Because of the other person's exquisite face, delicate skin, and beautiful clothes, even though Elsa didn't know much about Ron's clothing, it didn't stop her from being able to see the value of Ron's outfit.

She dared not ask for too much, and even felt a slight aversion to Ron, because his appearance undoubtedly broke their numb, repetitive daily lives.

"No, it's okay, I think the celebration you're talking about is very interesting!"

"Besides, a gentleman should be there for his friends in need. You guys probably need some help, right?"

Ron pushed up his monocle, causing the lens to reflect a bright white light inside the not-so-bright cabin.

Everything he just said was a lie. His only friend was Hazel; the three people in front of him were not his friends.

However, there was a reason why he stayed with these three people; he wanted to figure something out.

So how did they manage to maintain their hope and expectation for life in such an oppressive, gloomy environment where there seemed to be no hope at all?

This made the Outer God, who had little humanity, very curious, because the emotions they displayed were completely different from the gloomy, desperate, and numb emotions of those who grew up in the East End and the docklands of Backlund and Tingen!
