Chapter 38 The Feast

When Ron arrived in Puto City, it was the hottest time of day in Sibylon, with the sun high in the sky, radiating heat and light upon the tiny creatures on the ground.

However, a few hours later, the sun was no longer as proud as it was at noon. The afterglow of the setting sun fell on the uneven terrain, and the dim yellow light brought a calming atmosphere, silently telling the story of the sun's inner voice.

Finally off work!

However, the sun's work today is only a successful conclusion for the southern continent. It must continue to radiate light and heat, providing vitality and life to the nations of the northern continent.

"What a pitiful fellow..."

Ron inhaled the aroma of butter and wheat swirling around his nose, shook his blond head, and cleared his mind of the random thoughts.

The interior of the wooden warehouse did not become dark despite the setting sun, because a stone bonfire was burning brightly in the center of the warehouse.

The flames shone brightly inside the dark warehouse, with sparks occasionally flying out, making Elsa, who was baking wheat pancakes, a little flustered.

Wheat cakes, a name Elsa herself gave them, and you can tell from the simple name what they're made of.

Of course, the wheat flour used to make white bread was not something their class could afford; the use of coarse rye flour mixed with bran was the symbol of their status.

However, with the arrival of her new friend, Elsa reluctantly took out a small bag of oat flour from deep inside the food storage cabinet.

The oat flour, with a little bran mixed in, was already quite small. Elsa carefully set aside half of it, added water and rye flour, and kneaded it into a dark brown dough.

Instead of kneading the dough into a flatbread and baking it on a preheated griddle as usual, she did not do so.

She carefully took out a small tin-colored jar from the cabinet where bottles and jars were kept.

The small jar was polished to a gleaming shine, reflecting Elsa's pale and malnourished face in the firelight.

She picked up a small, well-worn wooden stick that she used frequently, scooped out a small amount of butter, and placed it on the preheated iron plate.

The sizzling sound echoed throughout the wooden warehouse, and the smell of cheap butter wafted past Elsa's nose, making her unconsciously swallow.

While Elsa was busy preparing dinner for her guests, Roy and Jord Jr. were also busy.

They were picking wild fruits from the wild. There were all kinds of wild fruits, and their appearance was only passable.

They were small and dull in color, like the fruits of plants that tenaciously survive in barren lands.

As for the taste, Ron didn't try it because he saw the distorted expression on Roy's face after he ate a fruit, and he knew that the fruit must taste very strange.

Although these fruits are very sour and astringent, Roy, who has lived here for many years, has a good way to deal with them.

He picked out the good fruits, then used a tool that looked like a small iron piece to cut them all open, remove the pits, and put them into a large stone bowl.

Although the stone tool is called a stone bowl, Ron thinks it looks more like a roughly polished stone trough.

The sound of "clapping" like pounding garlic rang out as Roy repeatedly stirred the small fruits with a wooden stick, gradually losing their shape and turning them into very coarse jam.

When the mixture was almost ready, he reached into his pocket with his left hand and pulled out five candies. These were the most common hard candies, each a different color, indicating that they also had different flavors.

Roy held the melted and deformed candies in his hand, carefully examining them by the firelight. He hesitated for a moment, then pinched three candies, tore off the sugar coating, and threw them all into the coarse, rotten jam.

He was using this method to neutralize the sour and astringent taste of the wild fruit, which was so unpalatable.

After the three of them worked hard, a not-so-lavish dinner was freshly prepared. As for the taste, Ron could only say that it looked like a kind of primitive and rustic deliciousness.

"How's it going, Ron? How's the taste?"

Although she had already gotten the answer from the food, the thoughtful girl still asked the guests who came to visit.

Because she used luxurious ingredients for this dinner that she would never normally use.

"Mmm, it tastes great!"

Ron took a big bite of the shoddy tortilla roll with jam and gave a fair assessment.

To be honest, as someone who stands at the pinnacle of the world, he doesn't need to eat at all, so he has no way of knowing what tastes good or bad.

Even if Ron were given a can of wolffish now, he would probably just throw the metal box into his mouth, chew it for a moment, and then conclude that it had a unique flavor.

Ron's praise and his completely uninhibited chewing made the girl's eyes widen, and she stood there dumbfounded.

She knew exactly what this thing tasted like. The bran mixed in with the cake and the sourness that even candy couldn't mask made it taste anything but good!

For a moment, Elsa was questioning her life. She looked at Ron, who showed no signs of distress, and wondered if she was being too picky.

Maybe this thing is really delicious?

The thoughtful girl took a small bite of the jam-filled pancake, her facial muscles twitching slightly as she swallowed the food.

The fruit is unusually sour today!

The last rays of the sun vanished completely as the feast ended, and night had fallen, now ruled by the Crimson Moon.

"Here, Ron, this will cover your long blond hair and eyes."

"You know, people here are always prejudiced against us. If they find out, we'll be kicked out!"

As Ron took the patched black robe from Roy Moore, he watched them smear their faces and clothes with cooled charcoal.

It must be said that such a decoration would easily be overlooked in Putuo, a city without gas streetlights and where people can only rely on torches and braziers for lighting at night.

This comes from their survival wisdom: how to hide themselves.

Once the four were ready, they were led by Roy Moore to a small path, where they stopped.

"Elsa, you and little Yord go to the east side of Putuo City. Remember not to carry anything too heavy, and be sure to pay attention to your safety."

"Ron and I are planning to check out the festival center; maybe we can find some good stuff!"

The young boy, despite his young age, acted like an adult and repeated the plan they had discussed earlier.
