Chapter 39 Why

"Yes, Captain!"

After Roy Moore gave the order, the girl and little Yord, who was behind her, gave a not-so-standard Rune-style military salute.

The military salute made Roy Moore's lips curl into a slight smile, revealing a hint of pleasure. Then, in a not-too-loud voice, he issued the order to begin the operation.

"Before we begin, safety is paramount!"

"Yes, Captain!"

The two little team members bowed in response again, and the four-person team quickly split into two groups. Elsa and the others ran around the outer perimeter of the city wall to the other entrance.

Roy waved to Ron, signaling him to carefully follow him.

Under the crimson moonlight, Roy carefully made his way around the city walls, which were covered in rubble and dust. Soon he found a hole hidden by weeds and stones.

The hole wasn't large, just big enough for boys of their size to pass through.

"This is the emergency exit I discovered."

Roy Moore scratched his head and explained a few words to Ron with a slightly smug look on his face.

As a wanderer who had spent many years in Putuo, he was much more familiar with the city than the so-called General's Guard.

At first, it was extremely narrow, barely wide enough for one person to pass through. After taking one or two more steps, the two entered the city of Putuo.

The city had changed dramatically since the daytime; the crimson moonlight shone quietly, and torches soaked in grease were placed along both sides of the main streets.

The scene illuminated by the torchlight was bustling with activity, and every household here had decorations made of white feathers and bones hanging in front of their doors.

Some people even have lamps made of human bones in front of their houses, and it's unknown which elder in the family made them.

"Over here!"

Roy Moore beckoned to Ron, and even though it was night and he was disguised, he remained vigilant as he led Ron along the path where there was no firelight.

"Our destination is those festival food distribution points, where there is often a good amount of food distributed."

Roy quietly repeated the plan they had agreed on earlier.

In this small town, which is not primarily agricultural, death rituals are often performed by the Siberian Restoration Society to worship the god of death.

Ron thought these activities were completely useless, and in reality, these sacrificial activities really were useless.

Aside from improving the mental state of the town's residents, it won't receive any response from the so-called Grim Reaper!

Following Roy, who was leading the way, Ron soon arrived at the distribution point for sacrificial food in their city.

All of this food was donated free of charge by the Restoration Society, but these things were very ordinary to the residents of the small town. They only came to receive a small portion to make the scene more lively by taking advantage of the festival atmosphere.

However, for Roy and his companions, these things were invaluable treasures.

A boy with rough, blond hair arrived at the festival site and looked around.

Soon he found the location of his target. He checked his rough disguise, carefully concealing the few strands of blond hair that were sticking out, and then joined the queue at the back of the line, which wasn't too crowded.

He went back and forth, and each time he received his food, he would leave it with Ron and then go back to line up again.

Roy didn't let Ron come with him, because he knew it wasn't a very respectable thing for a Rune gentleman.

"You've already claimed it!"

Finally, the "insatiable" nature of the rough-looking blond boy caught the attention of the distribution staff. He frowned and looked fiercely at Roy, who had already received festival food many times, and directly refused his request.

If the festival weren't about to begin, he would have tied up that dark-skinned fellow in front of him, thrown him out of the city, and let the wild jackals and dogs teach him a lesson.

Perhaps he sensed the distributor's malice, or perhaps this harvest was already enough for him.

Roy didn't try to pester them, but quickly left the scene amidst a series of strange looks.

These gazes were like knives piercing the boy's back, but he was already used to them; these were difficulties he had to overcome in order to survive.

"Very good!"

"Thank goodness for Ron's help this time. Without you, I would never have been able to claim it so many times!"

Roy smiled sincerely and thanked his new friend earnestly, looking at the four paper bags in front of him as if they were precious treasures.

"And then? Roy, we just take these back?"

"No, Ron, although this time it's more than we receive every year, it's still far from enough!"

"I know a good place; it's the logistics headquarters of the General's Guard in Putuo City. They should be preparing food for the celebration right now. We can go there and take a look!"

"There are lots of good things there! The butter Elsa used today is the one I got there last time!"

The blue-eyed boy spoke with great confidence, clearly proud of himself, because the butter he had obtained under cover of darkness and amidst the throngs of festival attendees had made Elsa and Yord very happy for a long time.

As the leader of the three, and also as a young boy, this was something that made him feel extremely accomplished.

Ron's golden eyes flickered, and he pushed up his monocle, looking at the boy with some confusion.

In the other's fate, in the other's future, Ron saw only one ending.

That is to die quietly and uneventfully in this chaotic West Baylang, like a wildflower blooming by the roadside with no one to admire it, or like the withered and messy weeds by the roadside.

At this moment, Roy Moore's enthusiastic attitude towards everything only confused Ron more.

Your future is so predictable, and death is inevitable, so why struggle so desperately?

This isn't to say that Ron dislikes this enthusiastic young man, nor that he thinks Roy's actions offend the great ruler of time and space; rather, he is genuinely curious.

Although his gaze extends to the past and the future, and although he possesses supreme power and authority, he would never have shown the slightest interest in such a weak creature in the past.

They were so weak, so foolish, just like the boy before them; everything was nothing but emptiness, as time has already proven.

The blond boy pushed up his monocle, wanting to ask directly and get the answer from the other person.

But Roy Moore was already far away, waving from a distance to signal Ron to hurry over so as not to be discovered by the residents attending the ceremony.

Ron smiled and shook his head, then quietly followed.

Time will reveal the final answer to him, and he is not in a hurry.
