Chapter 40 Ghost: How scary is that ghost!

"Ron, quick, over here!"

The boy with emerald green eyes beckoned Ron over in a very soft voice.

Even though he had put on a facade and no one cared about them on the night ruled by the Crimson Moon, Roy Moore remained cautious in the oppressive atmosphere of the city.

This is the experience I've gained from years of hardship living here.

Putuo City is not large, and the route to the General's Guard Logistics Department is known to the boy by heart.

After all, the aroma of butter is so tempting.

After navigating several dark alleyways and main streets lined with torches, Roy Moore led Ron to their destination.

This is a rather large courtyard, although it does not have the towering buildings of the Kingdom of Rune, nor the ostentatious gold decorations of Intis.

However, this courtyard has the style of the early Siberian death worship.

How can the word "rustic" possibly describe it!

The fences lined with skulls and the lanterns encircled by arm bones silently testify to the appalling aesthetic sense of the place's inhabitant.

"Just like last time, there's hardly anyone guarding it!"

Roy Moore stood in the shadows, peering around repeatedly. Through the fence, he noticed that apart from the two guards standing at the gate, there were no other people guarding the courtyard.

"There really aren't many people..."

Ron peeked out and whispered the words of the boy beside him.

There were indeed very few people; to be precise, there were no living people.

Because the place where supplies were stored in the courtyard was filled with ghostly figures and vengeful spirits. They were not visible to ordinary people and drifted around in the courtyard. Their spirit bodies passed through the physical supplies, just like in ghost stories.

Looking at the undead creatures in the courtyard, their tongues lolling out, their faces pale, their teeth sharp, and their complexions either black or pale, Ron was genuinely worried for the boy beside him.

If he remembered correctly, Roy had just told him that he had taken a jar of butter from here last time.

If things had been like this last time, then...

"What a lucky escape..."

The blond boy sighed inwardly.

"Ron, I didn't expect the General's Guard to be so careless; they didn't even send enough people to guard these supplies!"

The boy with emerald green eyes was overjoyed and shared his happiness with his new friends.

"Hey, Roy, didn't you notice anything wrong when you came last time?"

Ron coughed lightly, trying to make the boy beside him realize the seriousness of the problem.

"Oh? It's nothing. I was probably a little nervous last time. When I went in, I always felt a chill. Because I was afraid of being discovered, I took out half a jar of butter."

"But this time I won't miss this opportunity; such good opportunities don't come around often!"

The boy with emerald green eyes, like a silly roe deer, innocently answered Ron's question and made up his mind on his own.

The chill is because vengeful spirits are affecting you. The butter you took last time was probably left there by some chef; it wasn't considered a supply guarded by the undead...

Ron pursed his lips and pushed up his monocle. Even without rewinding the timeline, he could guess what the silly roe deer had been facing.

"What's wrong, Ron? Is there a problem?"

Seeing his new friend's hesitation, Roy Moore asked him a question out of curiosity.

"No, it's nothing. I'm also curious why the General's Guard was so careless."

"Heh heh, Ron, you just don't understand, do you? They're always like this; they become lax when they're on their own turf!"

Taking advantage of his local status, Roy Moore put on an air of knowledge and gave Ron a brief explanation.

"Alright, Ron, you stay here and cover me. I'll sneak in and grab something good!"

After observing for quite some time without finding any hidden guards, the blue-eyed boy stretched his arms and made a gesture to Ron that said, "Leave everything to me."

Then, he bypassed the two guards at the entrance and went to a less noticeable spot. Taking advantage of his size, he squeezed through the fence under the watchful eyes of the skulls.

The blue-eyed boy tiptoed cautiously, almost like a thief, as he approached the pile of supplies.

His very discreet movement went unnoticed by the guards, but it was clearly seen by the ghostly figures and vengeful spirits floating in mid-air and wandering in the real world.

They stopped drifting aimlessly and stopped in mid-air, their illusory and deformed heads rotating 180 degrees to stare intently at the thief exposed to the spotlight.

A silent roar suddenly erupted, instantly filling the air with a chilling and terrifying atmosphere, causing Roy Moore to shrink back and scratch his head.

The sudden, eerie feeling left the blue-eyed boy completely bewildered, unable to figure out what was going on.

"Never mind that, getting the good stuff is the priority right now!"

Roy gritted his teeth, overcame his invisible fear, and nimbly approached the supplies like a rabbit.

Silently, the curtain covering the dust was lifted, revealing the food that had been hidden.

On this large, sturdy table were rows and rows of cured hams!

Looking at the food in front of him, the boy took a deep breath, a mixture of joy at the impending harvest and amazement at his unfamiliarity with the world.

The enticing aroma made the boy unable to resist reaching out and grabbing it. He didn't look for any other more valuable items, because a ham was enough to satisfy him.

Just then, as Roy grabbed the ham, the ghostly figures and vengeful spirits floating in mid-air seemed to have locked onto a target, letting out silent roars in unison, attempting to influence and tear apart the thief's spirit, causing him to lose his mind and become an idiot.

But the silent roar was sent out, yet it had no effect on the boy whatsoever, just as the sound that could cause spiritual confusion could not be transmitted due to the great distance.

Before those undead creatures with low intelligence could take any further action, they suddenly felt an immense pressure coming towards them.

This pressure is not physical pressure, but rather a forced oppression from the individual.

The aura, more ancient than the underworld, and the oppression, more powerful than the descendants of the god of death, caused these irrational undead creatures to regain their senses and prostrate themselves on the ground in submission.

They remained motionless, or rather, dared not move at all, for fear of angering the great being watching them from the shadows.

thanks for your support.

Although some readers have recently commented that the story is a bit bland, I'm still shamelessly asking you to keep reading!

This is very important for new authors and new books.

However, there will be a way to improve. Failure is the mother of success. If you didn't write well this time, you'll know how to avoid it next time.
