Chapter 37 First Signs of Talent

According to the schedule, Slytherin only has one class on the first day, which is History of Magic, which they attend in the afternoon with the Ravenclaw students.

The lecturer is Professor Ghost Cuthbert Binns, and the location is on the second floor.

The next day at noon, after having lunch in the Great Hall on the first floor, Jerry, along with the other Slytherin wizards, went up the luxurious marble staircase to the History of Magic classroom on the second floor.

During the meal, Jerry also ran into Hermione, who had been sorted into Gryffindor. Hermione expressed her regret that Jerry hadn't been sorted into Gryffindor, but she said that even if Jerry were in Slytherin, he would still be her best friend.

In the classroom, the seemingly very old ghost Professor Binns was speaking at length about the history of magic in his panting, drawn-out voice.

In the classroom, most of the Slytherin and Ravenclaw wizards were already teetering on the edge of their seats under Professor Binns' hypnotic voice.

Actually, the course on the history of magic isn't as useless as other young wizards say, even though it doesn't teach any magical knowledge or spells.

However, if you study diligently, you will find that you can learn a lot about the secrets of the wizarding world from these histories of magic.

Jerry's understanding of the wizarding world is limited to movies and some short videos, which are very one-sided.

Professor Binns's history of magic class presented the entire wizarding world to him in a more realistic and detailed way.

This was of great help to him in his later study of magic.

Just like if you want to learn the language, script, and many unique cultural knowledge of a completely unfamiliar country, it would be very difficult.

However, once you understand the entire history of this country, the difficulty of this learning will be greatly reduced.

This is perhaps why all the young wizards think that history of magic is the most useless subject, but it is taught to them in every year at Hogwarts.

He usually doesn't have high hopes for this part, because at this time most young wizards have just woken up and few know the answer.

However, he didn't mind, because his classes had always been like this.

Just as Professor Binns was about to announce the end of class, Jerry in the first row raised his hand.

"What's your name?"

"Jerry Carmen!"

Jerry stood up and replied.

"Then you can answer the question you just asked!"

A look of surprise appeared on Professor Binns' aged face.

Jerry coughed, and after attracting the attention of all the young wizards, he began to speak:

"The demon Emeric was a short-lived but extremely powerful wizard. He once wielded the Elder Wand and ruled with terror in southern England during the early Middle Ages. He was 'slaughtered' in a duel with the monster Egbert, and he once..."

You see, Professor Binns actually mentioned the Elder Wand in our first-year history of magic class.

"Excellent! Slytherin plus three points!"

Professor Binns was surprised that the student had recited everything he said in class word for word; such a situation is very rare.

"Mr. Carmen, could you tell me more about the eccentric Yurik?"

"The eccentric Yurik was a medieval wizard who was famous for his bizarre behavior, such as wearing a jellyfish as a hat and sleeping in a room with more than fifty pet tamarins."

He is considered one of the most eccentric wizards in history, and therefore, he is often the subject of jokes about wizards.

Jerry continued to repeat everything he had taken notes of during class, word for word.

"Jerry, you're one of the students with the best memory I've ever seen. Slytherin, add three more points!"

As Professor Binns finished speaking, the Slytherin wizards, who had been somewhat confused before, immediately burst into applause.

The importance of academic credits was clearly explained by Professor McGonagall when we entered Hogwarts Castle yesterday, and the House Cup, earned through academic credits, is the highest honor for a Hogwarts wizard.

So how could the proud Slytherins not be happy when Jerry earned six credits for them in the very first lesson?

However, Jerry dared not underestimate Professor Quirrell.

Because he knew that Professor Quirrell, who came from Ravenclaw, was definitely not weak; otherwise, he wouldn't have been able to bypass Gringotts' defenses and sneak in to steal the Philosopher's Stone.

Moreover, the ultimate villain of this world, Voldemort, is hidden on the back of his head!

Actually, setting aside the professor's deliberately feigned cowardice and timidity, a careful listening to his lectures reveals that they are not entirely useless.

After at least one lesson, Jerry did have a deeper understanding of the magic spells in the textbook.
