Chapter 21 The Mantis Stalks the Cicada, Unaware of the Oriole Behind (×)
The sun slowly rose, its soft light, like a delicate veil, gradually spilling across the vast land.
Bathed in the warm sunlight, Ghost Rider lost his powerful abilities, and his form changed from a terrifying skull back to a normal human shape.
Carter calmly adjusted his distinctive cowboy hat, then gently stroked his beloved horse with affection.
Johnny, sitting on his motorcycle, looked around blankly, seemingly lost. Then, his eyes rolled back, and he fainted as if he had lost his support.
"What's wrong with him?" Wes asked, full of doubt.
Carter shrugged lightly and said calmly, "Don't worry about it, beginners are often like this."
Having said that, he calmly took out a cigar from his pocket, lit it with a lighter, took a deep drag, and asked, "Who is the Supreme Sorcerer? Why is the Demonic Witch so afraid of her?"
Just then, the roar of car engines suddenly rang out, and five cars sped over, kicking up clouds of dust.
Immediately afterwards, a group of heavily armed and well-equipped men quickly got out of the car and surrounded Wes and his two companions.
However, these people had their guns pointed downwards and did not show any intention to attack at the moment.
Coulson, whose hair was thinning slightly, walked quickly to Wes and respectfully handed him a business card.
"Mr. Erwin, we are the homeland."
Weiss interrupted Coulson without any politeness: "I remember you, you were at the auction."
"I'm glad you remember me." Coulson maintained his friendly smile. "We really meant no harm; we just wanted to ask a few questions."
"No malicious intent?" Wes raised an eyebrow, his gaze sharpening as he looked at the agents surrounding him. "Do you think I'd believe that?"
"After all, I'm just an ordinary person. When facing 'special individuals' with special abilities like you, it's inevitable that I'll feel insecure," Coulson tried to reassure him. "Please rest assured, they will absolutely not do anything excessive."
"Is that so?" Wes revealed a mocking smile that sent chills down everyone's spine.
The next second, something unexpected happened: half of the agents suddenly raised their guns, quickly released the safety, and aimed at their comrades without hesitation.
This sudden turn of events left the agents present stunned and speechless, too afraid to even move.
"Oh, easy! Everyone stay calm!"
Coulson panicked and quickly raised his hands, trying to indicate that he posed no threat.
"Mr. Erwin, please calm down. There must be some misunderstanding between us." Coulson's smile became somewhat stiff, and he looked quite embarrassed.
"Misunderstanding? I don't think so." Wes's fingers twitched slightly as he spoke in an icy tone, "You first participated in an auction a year ago, which means you've been secretly watching me since at least that time."
Wes pressed his throbbing temples and continued, "You guys must have followed me all the way from New York. You must have been secretly watching yesterday's fierce battle from somewhere."
"What? You think I'm trying to take advantage of you because I've exhausted my magic after a great battle?"
Coulson's back was instantly soaked with sweat, his clothes clinging tightly to his back.
Every word Wes said was accurate. As Nick Fury had instructed, they did indeed intend to take advantage of Wes's weakened state after the battle to control him and extract the secrets of magic from him.
But to everyone's surprise, Wes still had energy left.
"Looks like I guessed right."
A fierce killing intent suddenly flashed in Wes's eyes, and the atmosphere became extremely tense.
Just as he was about to take action, a rapid ringing sound suddenly rang out.
Coulson quickly pointed to his pocket and said cautiously, "It's a call from our chief; we hope you can listen to it."
Without hesitation, Wes pulled out his phone and turned on speakerphone.
"Hello, Mr. Magician, it seems that my subordinates have had a considerable conflict with you, for which I am deeply sorry."
Nick Fury's voice came through the phone clearly.
"Hmm... Hmph, what do you want to say?" Wes said expressionlessly, reaching out to quickly tear a button off Coulson's clothes, revealing a tiny camera on it.
"I seem to have underestimated the power of technology. You must have gone to a lot of trouble to discover my identity."
"Mr. Irwin, please understand us, as an organization dedicated to protecting people all over the world."
As soon as Nick Fury opened his mouth, he began to launch into a long and rambling discourse on profound principles.
Erwin listened in astonishment, secretly marveling at how officials, whether in the East or the West, could spout one set of platitudes after another.
"Alright, enough nonsense. Time is of the essence, and I don't have time to listen to your rambling."
Nick Fury frowned in displeasure. Since becoming director, no one had ever dared to speak to him like that.
But with his men still in Wes's hands, he had no choice but to swallow his anger.
Not a single mistake, not a single poem, not a single post, not a single piece of content, not a single look!
"I can let your men go."
"What are the conditions?"
"Just how much power does your organization actually have?"
Nick Fury said with immense pride, "In America, there's nothing we can't do."
Wes didn't bother to expose Nick Fury's boast, and simply said:
"Listen, if you want your men to be safe, get me some heavy excavators and bulldozers. Get them all to the designated location before sunset today."
Upon hearing Wes's request, Nick Fury secretly breathed a sigh of relief.
"It's very simple."
"Remember, don't try to fool me unless you want hell to come."
"Hell has descended? What do you mean?"
Before Nick Fury could finish speaking, Wes hung up the phone without hesitation.
This infuriated him, and he flew into a rage in his office, yelling, "Motherfuxxer!"
Wes casually tossed the phone to Coulson.
"Mr. Erwin, can you dispel your spell now?"
"No." Wes refused coldly, leaving no room for negotiation.
Just as Coulson was about to say something more, Carter reached out and pressed down on his shoulder.
Coulson looked at the cowboy with a puzzled expression.
Carter said earnestly, "Stop talking. This wizard has a bad temper. Don't make things worse."
Upon hearing this, Coulson could only manage a wry smile.
