Chapter 316 Conversation

Is there really a way?

The Whitebeard Pirates crew surrounded Law, their eyes filled with anticipation and doubt. They asked him questions one after another, even temporarily ignoring Wes's presence.

"Gurala la la..."

A hearty laugh, like muffled thunder, rang out. The laugh was so distinctive that it instantly silenced everyone.

"Dad!" the crew members called out.

Then, the white-bearded man slowly walked out of the captain's cabin.

Although the years have left obvious marks on him, and he looks old, his innate domineering aura remains undiminished, and he is still not to be underestimated.

His gaze slowly fell on Wes, a scrutinizing look in his eyes, and he asked, "Was it you who killed Lingling?"

Whitebeard had once been Big Mom's ally and knew her strength all too well. He was well aware that even he wasn't entirely confident he could kill her.

Seeing Wes now, he realized that this young man's strength had probably surpassed his own.

Wes simply nodded calmly, offering no further explanation.

"To be a pirate, you either kill others or be killed by others. Even becoming a king is the same."

Whitebeard seemed to be lamenting the cruel survival rules of the pirate world, his tone revealing a kind of open-mindedness born from experience.

"Dad," Marco said anxiously, "there's a way to treat your injury."

He hoped that Whitebeard would seize this opportunity that might heal his injuries.

However, the white-bearded man simply grabbed the wine jug, tilted his head back, and gulped down a large mouthful of wine, saying nonchalantly, "They're just some old wounds."

Clearly, he did not want to undergo examination and treatment from strangers.

He fought his entire life, sustaining countless injuries in numerous battles, and often failed to receive timely treatment.

In his youth, thanks to his monstrously strong body, he was able to barely keep fighting.

But now, as I get older and my physical condition declines, all the injuries that have accumulated over the years have come out at once, and sometimes I am so tormented that I can't sleep at night.

Moreover, at this critical moment when war with the Navy Headquarters was imminent, even though healing his injuries would require time to recuperate, he felt he didn't have that much time to waste.

"I appreciate your kindness," the white-bearded man waved his hand, preparing to see the guests off, not wanting to dwell on the matter any longer.

But Wes interrupted him directly: "Can we find a quiet place?"

"Dad."

Seeing this, Marco pleaded with Whitebeard to accept treatment, as he couldn't bear to see his father continue to suffer from injuries and illnesses.

The other crew members echoed this sentiment. They all regarded Whitebeard as their own father, and now that there was a chance to cure their father's injuries, they were determined to try it no matter what.

"You stupid son."

Whitebeard looked at the crew members who were so devoted to him and sighed helplessly. In the end, he couldn't persuade them otherwise and had to agree for the time being.

Whitebeard then led Wes and Law into the captain's cabin.

Marco, Joz, and Vista, still worried, accompanied him into the captain's cabin.

The captain's cabin was very spacious; after all, it had to accommodate a man of Whitebeard's size. Everything here was specially made, from the tables and chairs to the beds, all meticulously crafted to meet Whitebeard's needs.

"You're prepared to die, you don't intend to come back alive, do you?"

Although Wess spoke in the form of a question, his tone was very certain, as if he already knew everything.

Marco, Joz, and Vista had just sat down, their butts not even touching the bench, when they heard Wes's words, they all jumped up, their faces filled with disbelief and anger.

"What nonsense are you talking about??"

Marco's eyes widened, and he shouted at Wes in a fit of emotion, unable to accept what Wes had said.

However, the person involved, Whitebeard, appeared to be the most composed.

"Dad?? He's talking nonsense, isn't he??"

Marco looked at Whitebeard eagerly, his eyes full of expectation, hoping that Whitebeard would immediately refute Wes's words.

"I never expected that an outsider would see through it."

The white-bearded man sighed slightly, and surprisingly, he readily admitted that what Wes said was true.

Why??

Marco became even more agitated, his voice trembling with emotion. He simply couldn't understand why his father would have such a thought.

Not a single mistake, not a single poem, not a single post, not a single piece of content, not a single look!

The white-bearded man opened his mouth, but for a moment he didn't know how to answer.

He was afraid of hurting the feelings of his adopted sons who treated him like their own father if he told the truth, but he couldn't hide the situation from them now.

Wes, however, did not have such concerns and directly expressed his opinion.

"Of course it's because you're too weak." Wes's words were blunt and harsh.

"We're too weak?"

Marco could hardly believe his ears. They were officers of the Whitebeard Pirates, renowned pirates on the high seas. How could they be called weak?

"Sengoku, Garp, Akainu, Aokiji." Wes read out these names one by one, and with each name he said, Marco and the other two became more serious.

"There are still 16 Marine Headquarters Vice Admirals, not counting other top-tier fighters from the World Government. Do you think the Whitebeard Pirates have a chance of winning?"

Wes's gaze swept over the crowd, his eyes revealing a calm scrutiny.

Silence, and more silence. Everyone knew in their hearts that they had absolutely no chance of winning against such a lineup.

They weren't stupid; they just had been too obsessed with Whitebeard. This worship made them subconsciously overlook the fact that Whitebeard was an old man, and it also led them to have a flawed understanding of their own strength and the power of their upcoming opponent.

"Gurarara..." The white-bearded man suddenly burst into laughter, trying to ease the oppressive atmosphere. He shouted, "Don't worry, I've got you covered."

But this did not reassure Marco and his two companions.

They knew very well that the risk of going to war with the Navy Headquarters was far too great; it would be a battle with a slim chance of survival.

However, in order to rescue Ace, they had already made up their minds to pay any price, even if it meant sacrificing their own lives.

Wes stared intently at the white-bearded man and continued, "What's the best outcome you envision?"

"Hmph, what a cunning brat." Whitebeard said this, but he didn't intend to hide it anymore. He slowly said, "I died in battle, rescued Ace, and the Whitebeard Pirates escaped unscathed."

"Dad!!"

Upon hearing this, Marco and the other two's eyes immediately reddened. How could they accept such an outcome, sending their father to his death? This was something they absolutely did not want to see.
