Chapter 74 Revealing My Identity
Chapter 74 Revealing My Identity
At this moment, Evelyn is explaining the mummification process to O'Connor.
As she explained, she gestured to help O'Connor better understand the complex process.
Seeing Wes approach, O'Connor immediately shielded Evelyn behind her. "Who exactly are you?"
Jonathan stopped complaining and stood side by side with O'Connor, still clutching his pistol.
"It's really disheartening; I even paid for saving you with my own money." Wes felt his sacrifice was not worthwhile, while also reminding O'Connor that he was not the enemy.
"You have a very clear goal. You've known about Hamunaptra's existence for a long time, and you even know that what you're looking for is here."
O'Connor laid her cards on the table: "If you don't reveal your true identity and purpose, I think it's time for us to part ways. The team doesn't need an unstable element like you." O'Connor's attitude was very firm this time.
Just as Wes was about to speak, the sound of rapid hoofbeats rang out.
Dozens of knights in black armor charged toward them in a line.
These are the warriors of Megard, riding tall and mighty warhorses, sweeping in like a surging black torrent, determined to utterly kill these intruders.
They were dressed in black robes and held curved swords. Under the moonlight, the swords gleamed with a cold and sharp light, ready to reap lives at any moment.
The warriors, armed with muskets, awaited only a command to unleash their furious flames and tear the intruders to shreds.
In an instant, the sound of galloping warhorses and the dust kicked up seemed to be caught in a huge storm, and the roars of the Megard warriors echoed over Hamunaptra.
O'Connor and his men were no ordinary people either; the Americans were also well-equipped, and a fierce battle ensued on the desert land of Hamnata.
Bullets flew through the air like meteors, making sharp whistling sounds, while swords flashed and shadows danced.
Jonathan and O'Connor, drawing on their years of combat experience, quickly found cover and began a fierce counterattack.
Bullets and scimitars clashed in the moonlight, forming a deadly web as both sides fought with all their might, determined to defeat the other.
Weiss stood quietly to the side, observing without lifting a finger. He did not want to harm these Meghad warriors who were blessed by the Egyptian gods, because he knew the mission and faith these warriors carried.
The Meghad warriors suffered heavy losses under the fierce resistance of the Americans and O'Connor.
Warhorses neighed, and the warriors were covered in wounds, their blood staining vast stretches of desert red.
Just as the two sides were locked in a stalemate, Amir, the leader of the Megard warriors, stepped forward and roared, "Intruders, you have trespassed into forbidden territory and disturbed the spirits of the dead. You have one day to withdraw from Hamunaptra, or you will be cursed by the evil spirits!!"
Amir's voice echoed in the night sky. After leaving those words, Amir led the remaining warriors away, their figures gradually disappearing at the edge of the desert, leaving only a deathly silence.
"Is he telling the truth? Is there really a curse?" A few Americans asked with some concern, but most didn't take Amir's warning to heart. "Who cares? These people have been watching us from the beginning. Maybe they're some bandits trying to double-cross us."
The people began cleaning up the battlefield, burying the dead in the sand. The desert was extremely hot during the day, like a giant furnace, and before long, the corpses would be dried out, so there was no need to worry about the stench spreading.
After cleaning up the battlefield, they sat back down around the campfire.
Jonathan magically produced a bottle of wine from somewhere, and eagerly took a big gulp, his cheeks quickly turning red like a ripe apple. "Today's going to be exciting."
Evelyn, her face filled with worry, concerned about the curse Amir had mentioned. "Could the curse really exist?"
O'Connor, however, thought Amir was just trying to scare them. "How could a curse be..." He was interrupted by Wes, who suddenly appeared.
"It's true. Hamunaptra is indeed cursed."
The three looked at Wes in surprise at his sudden appearance.
"How come you appear and disappear so suddenly?" Jonathan complained, looking annoyed. "You made me spill all my wine."
O'Connor, however, looked serious: "What do you mean?"
Wes sat down and told them the story between High Priest Imhotep and Ansu-na.
"The princess is having an affair with the high priest, how exciting!" Jonathan listened with great interest, as if he were listening to a captivating novel, completely ignoring the seriousness behind what Wes was saying.
Evelyn was immersed in their poignant love story, as if she herself had become a part of it.
"How do you know so much?" O'Connor wasn't interested in the story at all; he was more concerned with Wes's background: "So, who exactly are you?"
Faced with the aggressive O'Connor, Wes decided to drop the pretense. He opened his palm, and a blazing flame appeared out of nowhere. This flame stood out conspicuously in the night sky, carrying some kind of mysterious power.
"My God!" The three of them stared in astonishment.
Not a single mistake, not a single poem, not a single post, not a single piece of content, not a single look!
Wes spread his hand, and the flame floated in the air, unrestrained by any physical laws. Jonathan curiously touched it with his finger, immediately recoiled from the heat, and exclaimed, "Ouch!" He rubbed his finger, staring at the flame in disbelief.
"As you can see, I am a wizard."
"There must be some kind of mechanism." Jonathan refused to believe it and began to nervously check his surroundings, but no matter how he looked, he couldn't find any mechanisms or hidden devices.
"So you really are a wizard??" O'Connor preferred to believe that Wes was a spy sent by some country, or a conspirator eyeing this treasure, rather than believe that he was a real wizard.
Wes blew a light breath towards the flame, and the flame began to freeze rapidly, eventually turning into a frozen ball of flame that fell down and shattered into several pieces.
The three picked up the shards, exchanged glances, and saw disbelief in each other's eyes.
"Are you really a wizard?" they asked again, incredulously.
"That's right."
"Where did you hear about Hamnata?" O'Connor pressed.
"An ancient book..." Wes replied briefly. The three asked a whole host of questions and finally had to believe that Wes really was a wizard.
"So the curse those people were talking about is real too?" Evelyn asked worriedly.
Wes nodded, his expression serious: "Yes, the curse of Hamunaptra is real."
