Mystery: Starting from the Shadow World
Chapter 15 Another Attempt at Sales
Chapter 15 Another Attempt at Sales
Philip didn't speak, but simply stared at the ordinary-looking black-haired boy in front of him, and finally closed his eyes and nodded, "See you tomorrow."
"See you tomorrow."
Klein's expression was slightly complicated, but no doubt was shown in his eyes, as if the stare he had just received was within his expectations. He turned around and walked toward the street, his fingers unconsciously reaching into his pocket.
That was his advance payment of salary.
After watching Klein leave, Philip rubbed his forehead and sighed, "Sigh~"
It seems that this sense of familiarity is not an illusion, and the other party has also sensed it, but it is probably due to reasons that cannot be said casually, which has led to neither of them daring to take the initiative to break the ice.
For example, time travelers, or others.
Never mind, there's always another day.
"It's true on Klein's side, but what's the situation on Mr. Neil's side?" Philip stroked his chin, recalling the disgusting feeling from just now with some confusion.
If there's a real problem, asking directly might be dangerous. It's better to wait until you become an extraordinary being, so you won't be suddenly killed, before asking.
He gathered his thoughts and walked into the Blackthorn Security Company behind him, ready to spend the last moments of his first day at work with the "Northern Continent Customs Evaluation Guide" in his hand.
As night fell and all was quiet, the dull sound of a key turning the lock rang out.
As the heavy door was pushed open, Philip walked into the empty and quiet house with a somewhat dazed and bewildered expression.
He sat down on the sofa and stared blankly into space. The bag he had just put down contained lamb, peas, and potatoes he had bought at the market, which cost him only ten and a quarter pence in total, even though the quality of the meat wasn't that great.
Because of his old habits, Philip ate dry black bread in the morning and didn't even remember to go to the market early to buy fresh vegetables.
It wasn't until I was halfway home in the horse-drawn carriage after get off work that I realized there was no advanced preservation technology in this era. Obviously, it was too late.
As night gradually fell, the crimson moonlight shone through the window and fell on the table, illuminating the simple and unpretentious mutton soup in contrast to the glow of the gas lamp.
Peas and diced potatoes are soaked in the broth with lamb, the milky white liquid steaming hot, making it very appetizing.
If there were chopsticks, that would be even better. Philip looked at the fork and spoon, shook his head and smiled, no longer arguing with reality, and finished his dinner.
After doing all this, he turned off the restaurant lights, went upstairs, walked to the room he had chosen, turned on the light at his desk, picked up paper and pen, and began to write.
The basic common sense about extraordinary beings that Klein asked for was no problem for Philip. He could even go further and write more, not only out of kindness but also to gain the other party's trust.
He accepted the absurd idea of time travel, but not entirely.
Philip has adapted to his current life, but that doesn't mean he's content to be completely unaware of the truth behind the time travel. If Klein really is a time traveler, then the two of them exchanging information might uncover something.
Even if it isn't, figuring out where that inexplicable sense of familiarity comes from is a gain in itself.
Under the warm and steady light, Philip finished writing the last words, put down his pen, and after reviewing the text and finding nothing missing, he prepared to read his book.
However, at this moment, he suddenly thought of something, and his gaze fell on the last few blank lines of the paper, and an idea sprouted in his mind.
"Why not write it if I can't?"
Philip said something in a low voice, then lightly stroked his pen, adding more pressure to the last few lines, writing down a few words that wouldn't be overlooked:
"If you aspire to become an extraordinary being but lack the opportunity to accumulate merit, I can provide you with two Sequence 9 recipes."
"One serving costs £198, and another costs £176."
"Klein, believe me, there's no cheaper option than this compared to any other channel."
After writing this, Philip picked up the paper, turned it over, and looked at the blank page.
"Well, I've already written it all, so I might as well write some more."
The next day.
Good morning, Lawrence.
"Hmm, good morning." At the entrance of Blackthorn Security Company, Philip looked at Klein, who was greeting him, and asked with some confusion, "Why are you standing here? Aren't you going in first?"
"Well, my job is a bit unusual."
Klein seemed a little embarrassed, but there was no need to hide this from his colleagues, so he told them about the task Dunn had assigned him, which, in layman's terms, was "paid walks."
As for the matter of Antigonus's Notes, Klein dared not speak casually about it, lest it cause a negative impact, since the other party was only an administrative staff member.
Holy crap, I want one too.
Philip was somewhat envious, but since he didn't know the whole story, he didn't comment further. He took a blank sheet of paper from the books he had brought from his room's bookshelf that morning to pass the time and handed it to the other person.
Not a single mistake, not a single poem, not a single post, not a single piece of content, not a single look!
Klein took it, folded it twice, put it in his pocket, and sincerely thanked him.
After watching the other person leave, Philip suppressed his inner turmoil and went into the security company.
Good morning, Roxanne.
The brown-haired girl, who had been smiling as she read the magazine with her hands on the table, instinctively stood up. Then, realizing what had happened, she clutched her chest and complained:
"Lawrence, why can't I hear you walking or opening doors?!"
Because I'm a "prisoner," holding one's breath and moving silently are relatively simple criminal techniques, easily used against ordinary people. Philip sat down on the sofa and waved his hand:
"My situation is a bit special, and you probably don't want to know, believe me."
"Hmm." Rosanne was speechless for a moment. After a while, she blinked and suddenly realized, "Oh right, the captain said you can go see him today because 'that matter' has been resolved."
There's a result? So fast?
Philip was first surprised, then somewhat worried, which meant that his application was very likely to have been rejected. If that was the case, he would be in for a headache.
To gain his trust, he had already explained everything except for the time travel, the Shadow World (which he himself was not yet familiar with and could not enter for the time being), and Mr. Fool's Tarot Club.
However, materials from Sequence 9 should be acceptable; this doesn't involve any curses. If they refuse even that, then things will really be difficult.
Philip nodded and, following Rosanne's instructions, went to an office in the corridor.
"Captain, good morning. What's the result?"
Because of the weather, the stuffy indoor heat prevented Dunn from taking off his trench coat and hat and putting them on the coat rack. At this moment, he was wearing a white shirt and a black vest, sitting in a chair, his tone revealing no emotion.
"Lawrence, you're lucky. No, that's not the right word. Anyway, the Sanctuary's response was incredibly fast; the answer is 'passed.' The materials have been sent to Old Neil, and I'll write you a document now."
