Mystery: Starting from the Shadow World

Chapter 14 Rosell's Diary

Chapter 14 Rosell's Diary

"hehe."

Old Neil smiled noncommittally, coughed twice, and shook his head, saying, "Emperor Rosell has a famous saying that is very apt: if a leaf blocks your view, you will only think you are seeing the leaf and ignore the surrounding forest."

"Isn't this just a case of being blinded by a leaf?" Philip nodded with a somewhat complicated expression, and reluctantly sighed, "Yes, that's a very philosophical saying."

"Therefore, we cannot be misled by common sense and appearances. After all, this is a mysterious symbol created by Emperor Roselle, and besides, it is only a copy." Old Neil said, seeing that Philip was interested in the diary.

"You can also take a look; you might gain something from it. Who can predict what will happen or won't happen in this world?"

"Original my foot! It would be a miracle if anyone in this world could understand it except for time travelers," Philip thought to himself, but on the surface he nodded calmly, pretending to carefully study the unknown characters while actually skimming through them.

If he were on Earth, he would probably be scratching his head in frustration, tormented as if reviewing notes hastily written in class. But now, as an extraordinary being, it's not difficult for him to force himself to memorize things he can understand.

Gradually, his sapphire blue eyes lingered on a single sentence, revealing a mixture of joy and shock.

The key to potions is not mastery, but assimilation! Not excavation, but role-playing! And the name of a potion is not just a core symbol, but also a concrete image, and even more so, the "key" to assimilation!

"Lawrence?"

The shouts in his ear startled Philip. After a fleeting struggle, he put down the three pages of the diary and said casually, "I think I've figured it out."

"It's obvious that it's because Emperor Rosell's handwriting is ugly!"

These words left old Neil speechless for a moment. He could only smile and shake his head, asking, "What is the basis for your answer? What makes you so certain?"

Philip picked up the pen on the table, carefully took out a piece of white paper, and meticulously traced the first two words of the first sentence on a certain page of the diary, as if he were a sculptor creating a work that was very important to him.

Several seconds passed before he handed the paper to old Neil, on which were written a few words that were shorter, neater, and more pleasing to the eye than a diary entry:

September 22nd.

"This..." Old Neil stared at the six words in his hand, his slightly cloudy, dark red eyes brightening. He slammed the paper on the table and exclaimed sincerely, "Lawrence, you're a genius! Without a doubt, this is highly likely a breakthrough, which indicates..."

"Um, this, this shows..."

"It shows that Emperor Rosell's handwriting was very ugly." Lawrence curled the corners of his mouth and said frankly, "Or perhaps he just did it on a whim to prevent future generations from deciphering it, or maybe he was just as unrestrained and dissolute in private as his handwriting. Who knows?"

"But there's no doubt that if this discovery is confirmed, it will definitely be useful. After all, we can't just see the leaves; we have to see the forest, right?"

Old Neil burst into laughter, abandoning the composure expected of an elder. "You're right, no discovery should be ignored. Hmm, Lawrence, could you please make a copy of this notebook using this handwriting?"

"Yes, of course, but it will take a long time, and I can only come when I have free time."

Philip had no reason to refuse. Besides, he hadn't even finished reading those three pages of the diary yet. If there were any new diaries in the future, he could use this excuse to copy and read them at the same time.

After chatting for a while longer, Philip picked up his book and got up to say goodbye. As he walked to the crossroads outside, he suddenly bumped into Klein, who was walking from the direction of the reception room.

Although it was a coincidence, it would be impolite not to greet him since they had run into each other again. He extended his hand and said, "You should have already signed the contract, right? I hope you can accept this simple and hasty welcome as a new colleague."

"Thank you." After shaking hands with him sincerely, Klein held up the white bar he was holding in his other hand and smiled faintly. "However, I need to go to the armory to collect ammunition now, so please excuse me."

"Getting bullets? Is this some kind of treatment?" Philip nodded, then turned his back to the other person and walked back up the steps to the reception room of "Blackthorn Security Company."

In the slightly stuffy environment, the brown-haired girl rested her head on her hands, closed her eyes, and took a nap on the sofa. The slightly upturned corners of her mouth and her gentle breathing indicated that she was relaxed.

I just closed my eyes; I wasn't asleep.

The criminal skills he gained from being a half-prisoner allowed Philip to keenly observe the other person's physical condition. He quietly walked to the soft-backed chair, opened the book, and began to read.

Tap, tap, tap.

Not long after, faint footsteps were heard.

The door to the inner room opened, and Klein entered the reception hall. Meeting those sapphire blue eyes, he glanced at Rosanne beside him, seemed to have made a decision, and quietly walked away.

"Lawrence, do you know the name of that complete sequence that the Church possesses?"

Hearing that low, somewhat hoarse voice, Philip closed the book, his fingers slowly tracing the words "The Sleepless" on the cover without leaving a trace, before adding in a similarly low voice, "Actually, you can just ask that kind of question directly."

"Then why didn't you just say so? I was staring at you so intently." Klein choked, unsure what expression to make, and could only continue, "So, do you know any common knowledge about Extraordinary Beings?"

"Let's talk about it next time."

Philip didn't stop talking as he spoke, and Rosanne quickly raised her head, blinked her light brown eyes, and looked at the two people huddled together with a puzzled expression. "What are you talking about?"

"It's nothing. Klein wanted to know the specifics of the Extraordinary, but I declined, intending to let him think it over carefully before making a decision."

Not a single mistake, not a single poem, not a single post, not a single piece of content, not a single look!

Philip, without any awareness of his own culpability, put his right hand on Klein's shoulder, signaling to him that the latter would nod in agreement.

Upon hearing the first part of the sentence, Rosanne was initially overwhelmed with excitement, but she quickly calmed down, nodded in deep agreement, and said with a dimming gaze:

"Yes, every year some extraordinary individuals sacrifice themselves or go out of control. I'm not against others becoming extraordinary. But I just can't help but want to warn everyone that it's too dangerous."

"To save others caught in extraordinary events, to fight against evil extraordinary beings, even at the risk of death and loss of control at any moment, or even the next instant."

"Their families, living peaceful and happy lives, were suddenly struck by the news of their loved ones' deaths and the payment of compensation."

"Rosanne's parents were extraordinary individuals, but they sacrificed themselves, which is why she is like this."

Klein lowered his hat brim and nodded, saying, "I understand, but I've made my decision."

"I see, then let's do it tomorrow."

"Huh?" Klein didn't react for a moment.

Philip looked at the sunset and said calmly, "I'll write down the common knowledge about Extraordinary Beings tonight and give it to you tomorrow. While I can't guarantee it will be as objective and comprehensive as the official Extraordinary Being knowledge of Captain Dunn, it will certainly be error-free."

Is there such a good thing?

Klein blinked. "Really?"

These two words earned Philip a slightly speechless expression. "We'll be seeing each other almost every day from now on, how could I possibly lie to you?"

However, judging from Lawrence's tone, his identity as a member of the Night Watchers seemed to be more than just that of an ordinary person. Klein pondered this in his heart, but still nodded and said, "Thank you."
