Chapter 13 Klein Moretti
Chapter 13 Klein Moretti
"Lawrence, I don't think you should be as lazy and boring as Leonard. Women won't like that."
In the reception area of "Blackthorn Security Company," Rosanne looked at Philip, who seemed about to sink into the sofa, and complained with a hint of disappointment in her eyes, "I thought you would be a vibrant colleague."
"Uh," Philip said, stretching and shaking his head, somewhat speechless. "I don't want to either, but I'm just so bored. I've already read these newspapers several times."
"Perhaps you could go to old Neil; he has a lot of documents there," Rosanne suggested.
"That makes sense. Maybe there's something I haven't seen before. At least it's better than just sitting here doing nothing." Philip nodded and was about to leave when there was a knock on the door.
Boom!Boom!Boom!
Philip and Rosanne exchanged a glance, seeing the doubt in each other's eyes. With a hint of wariness, they opened the door. "Hello, sir, is there anything I can help you with?"
Outside the door stood a black-haired boy in a tailcoat and a top silk hat. He removed his hat in greeting, his brown eyes looking at Philip, and spoke sincerely:
"Hello, my name is Klein Moretti, and I am here at the invitation of Dunn Smith."
"You're the newcomer?" Philip perked up, but then remembered something more important, stepped aside and smiled slightly, "I was wondering when you'd be coming, I didn't expect it to be today."
"Huh?" Klein was a little confused, but he still followed the other party's courtesy and stepped into the reception room.
"Nice to meet you, my name is Lawrence Slytherin." Philip closed the door and explained, "Actually, I only joined here this morning, just a morning before you, well... because I got involved in some things."
Slytherin, Slytherin? What Hogwarts? I'm Hufflepuff. The environment there is nice, and there's even a kitchen. Overhearing a few words that everyone knew before he transmigrated, Klein couldn't help but smile: "Looks like we're quite similar."
Hmm, is getting involved in a mysterious incident that exciting?
"This guy, is he also here to just coast along for a paycheck? The pay is pretty good." Philip glanced at him, a little doubtful in his mind, and then a rather unrealistic thought popped into his head, but he quickly suppressed it for the time being.
No, it could also be to reach the extraordinary.
"Captain Dunn is on duty, uh, at 'Charnes Gate,' so he can't come out. Mr. Moretti, if you don't mind, I'll take you there."
"Thank you for your help."
Klein nodded, put his hat back on, and followed Philip into the inner room. As he crossed the corridor with six offices on either side, he was about to take a closer look when his view was interrupted by a familiar figure.
The black-haired, blue-eyed young man, who had once visited his home as a police officer and was as romantic as a poet, leaned against the door of the office on the right side. His unbuttoned white shirt gave him a free and unrestrained air.
Leonard Mitchell.
Leonard introduced himself to Klein, then his gaze swept between Klein and Philip, a slight smile playing on his lips, but he didn't say anything more, letting the two continue walking forward.
A dozen seconds after their figures disappeared into the office on the left, Leonard lowered his eyelids slightly and murmured in a voice barely audible to himself:
"Old man, what's going on?"
There was a few seconds of silence around them.
Then a soft laugh rang out.
"Heh, looks like you're getting old, which has affected your eyesight. You've confused two people in a row."
"Klein, it's just ahead. That big door is the 'Charness Gate.' Sorry, you might have to go in yourself."
At the crossroads of the underground tunnel, Klein stood in the middle, looking at Philip who had ducked into the right-hand alley, a sense of foreboding rising in his heart: "Why do you seem so afraid of Mr. Smith?"
"Huh?" The boy blinked his blue eyes.
"No, you misunderstood. Chanismon gives me a feeling of oppression because of my past experiences. I'm not quite used to it yet, so I try to avoid this feeling as much as possible."
That's it
"Okay, I understand." Klein nodded, accepting the explanation, and continued walking straight ahead alone.
Watching the other person walk away, Philip breathed a sigh of relief, leaned against the wall, frowned, and stared blankly for a while, unable to figure out why he felt an inexplicable sense of familiarity when facing this new colleague.
Was it an illusion, or did I really see it?
He shook his head and walked straight into the half-closed iron gate at the end of his path. After pushing it open, the glow of a gas lamp flickered inside, illuminating the tables and chairs and the white-haired old man dressed in a classic black robe.
"Hello, Mr. Neil, my name is Lawrence Slytherin."
Philip bowed slightly, then looked up at the other person, his eyes becoming somewhat vacant before recovering. "Um, I'd like to request some documents or books to look at here, in the reception room."
Old Neil's wrinkles twitched. He looked Philip up and down with his somewhat cloudy red eyes, then smiled and said, "Looks like Rosanne sent you."
Not a single mistake, not a single poem, not a single post, not a single piece of content, not a single look!
"There are indeed some classic books here, some of which are quite interesting, but Rosanne says she's already tired of them," he said, standing up and walking to the bookshelf. He expertly pointed at various places with his fingers and pulled out two books.
"Ah, *Roselle Gustave*, this book records the life of Emperor Rosell the Great, compiling various biographies and accounts of his deeds, but due to the large number of authors, compilers, and editors, many things are distorted. Oh no, wait, some of it is not old enough for you to read!"
"Huh?" Philip asked, puzzled.
"Well, there are some adult reasons."
Old Neil held two books, handed the other one to Philip, and opened "Roselle Gustave" and laid it flat on the table. "If it weren't for deciphering the mysterious symbols left by the Emperor, I certainly wouldn't have applied for funding to buy this book."
Oh, the adults' side.
Philip nodded, obediently remaining silent. He took the "Northern Continent Customs Review Guide" that Old Neil handed him, walked quietly behind him, and leaned down to see what the so-called 18+ content was all about.
However, out of the corner of his eye, he inadvertently caught sight of the few yellowed pages of a book that old Neil had just been reading at his desk, and his gaze fell to a halt.
Philip closed his eyes, took a few deep breaths, then opened them again, staring blankly at the writing: "Why does this thing look a bit like Chinese?"
A time-traveling predecessor?
That's impressive, he's even become emperor.
"Mr. Neil," he called out, reaching out and carefully picking up the three pages under the old man's gaze, asking somewhat uncertainly, "What's written on these?"
"These are symbols I've never seen before. Why are they written so crookedly? They look so ugly."
