Chapter 18 Poor Ghost

"Now, it should be okay to watch it, right?"

Klein had just had a lavish dinner with his brother Benson and sister Melissa, ostensibly because he had found a new job. Now, sitting in his room, looking at the table illuminated by the light, his fingers were in his pockets, feeling somewhat conflicted.

No, there's nothing to hide. It's just common sense among extraordinary individuals. Private investigators wouldn't be able to see that much detail, and they might not even understand it.

Klein took the folded piece of white paper out of his pocket, unfolded it with a slight excitement, and silently read the words on it.

The concise and accessible language allowed him to quickly digest and absorb all of Philip's writing, and he even felt a craving for more, though that was unrealistic.

Lawrence's writing is really good; maybe he'd be suited to writing textbooks or being a teacher, Klein thought to himself. Then his gaze gradually moved downwards and he saw the prominent "Addendum":

"If you aspire to become an extraordinary being but lack the opportunity to accumulate merit, I can provide you with two Sequence 9 recipes."

"One serving costs £198, and another costs £176."

"Huh?" Klein tilted his head slightly, caught off guard by the sudden sales pitch. His eyes were fixed on the two prices, which he didn't know how long he would have to work to earn, and he fell silent.

Even if you sold me, you wouldn't get that much money.

Klein shook his head slightly, closed his eyes and exhaled, preparing to find an opportunity to explain to the other party the harsh reality that he was just a poor wretch.

He picked up the paper, flipped through it with a hint of reluctance, and unexpectedly discovered writing in the corner behind the white paper. Although it was obscure, it couldn't be hidden under a focused, cursory scan:

"Hello there."

"If you can understand this, then you should know what it means. Yeah, that's it."

Klein stood there dumbfounded, his eyes scanning the two short and exquisite lines of text.

After a dozen seconds, he braced his hands on the table, leaned forward, and began to tremble involuntarily. A very soft and pleasant chuckle came from his mouth.

Brief, yet uncontrollable.

The brain's command to restrain itself conflicted with the joy that was about to fill his chest, forcing Klein to take two deep breaths before he could adjust.

Gradually, Klein's voice faded away.

But a slight smile lingered on his face, and he clutched the piece of white paper tightly in his hand. He stood up from the chair, took a few steps back, and collapsed onto his bed.

It wasn't until a few minutes later that Klein's expression calmed down, and the fingers gripping the paper involuntarily tightened their hold.

He found someone like him!

Perhaps it has no practical use, but it is really important to Klein.

He doesn't belong here. He is Zhou Mingrui. Whether it's holding a transfer ceremony or planning to become an extraordinary person, it's all for the sake of going home, back to the place that truly belongs to him.

Mrs. Slyn from the bakery, the captain of Blackthorn Security and old Neil, and even his current family members Melissa and Benson, none of them had a real relationship with him and could give him a real sense of belonging.

In other words, when facing other time travelers, he can remove his thickest mask.

Klein was still somewhat agitated. He took a deep breath, forcing himself to calm down, and kept telling himself that now was not the time to acknowledge each other.

At least we should wait until this little matter is over and the person spying on us is dealt with.

"I'm afraid it won't be so easy to fall asleep tonight." Klein stood up again, looked at the bed, shook his head and smiled.

He turned off the gaslight, then stood in the darkness with his eyes closed for several seconds before taking a few steps, quickly taking off his shoes, and diving into bed.

The pure white quilt bulged out in an oval shape at night and shifted from side to side until it finally fell silent half an hour later.

The dim light illuminated his hazy consciousness. Klein, who was groggily opening his eyes, propped himself up and found Dunn Smith, dressed in a black trench coat, standing in the room.

He stood there, and only after Klein woke up did he calmly say, "Someone broke into your room. Use your revolver to distract him. Now, leave the rest to Lawrence."

Lawrence!

Klein's heart tightened, and his pupils contracted involuntarily, but he quickly pretended to be nonchalant and asked with some concern, "Lawrence? Can he manage alone? Won't that be too much for him?"

There's no need to worry about this.

As Dunn spoke, his figure began to disappear into the darkness: "In this situation, Lawrence's abilities are the most suitable. We just conducted a simple test. In fact, even if there are setbacks, we can assist in remedying them."

As the last word was heard and entered his brain, Klein's consciousness returned to reality.

Facing the unfamiliar figure silently rummaging through the desk, he remained remarkably calm. He reached under his pillow, pulled out a revolver, pointed it at the other man, and then chuckled softly:

"Sir, burglary is not a respectable crime."

The man was so frightened that he straightened up immediately, turned around very cautiously, and after confirming the situation, he froze on the spot, not daring to make any further movements.

Not a single mistake, not a single poem, not a single post, not a single piece of content, not a single look!

Klein's gaze was fixed on the door that had been opened at some point, but he quickly recovered, his eyes darting around before returning to the intruder, pretending to check if he had any accomplices.

Pfft!Pfft!Pfft!

In the stillness of the night, Klein could clearly feel his heart pounding, but reason told him that he couldn't show anything unusual.

He tried to speak in a calm and gentle tone to further divert the other person's attention:

"Excuse me, please keep this position. I'm just an innocent ordinary person. This gun is only for my own protection. I don't really want to use it to take other people's lives."

The intruder raised his hands, but showed no fear. His azure eyes flashed with ferocity and threat, and this futile action made the man with the gun widen his eyes.

What do you mean? He's even afraid of this?

The thought popped into the intruder's mind and became unstoppable. He subconsciously wanted to continue probing, but the black strip of cloth swept past the bottom of his field of vision.

The next moment, his mouth and nose were covered, and the thin man opened his eyes wide and struggled desperately, but what followed was a rope around his neck.

Philip, clutching the strips of cloth and rope, stepped on the intruder's back. Based on the intruder's strength and build, he roughly estimated the intruder's limits and unconsciously increased his pressure.

The feeble sobs and struggles were swallowed up by the silent night, rising and falling within the room without disturbing any living creature.

"Ha~" Philip yawned with great restraint as he stepped on the intruder whose resistance was gradually waning. His eyes were slightly red and glistening with tears.

"Klein, good evening, good late at night."
