Demigod Mage in America
Chapter 2 The Female Police Officer Takes Flight
The voice came from upstairs; it sounded like his landlady, a policewoman who had recently graduated.
Although Raine, as a demigod, had lost all his divine power, he had not lost his essential divine nature. And one of the most fundamental abilities of a god is... to hear prayers.
He can now hear his own name or related words mentioned within a 2-kilometer radius, just like Superman. Of course, he's not as powerful as Superman; he can only hear a vague part of it.
But... why did that landlady call him?
Despite these thoughts, Renn still decided to go and take a look. He snapped his fingers, tearing open a space that led to the apartment corridor.
96th Street in Manhattan is a dividing line between rich and poor. Centered on Central Park, the closer to the south of Ryan's apartment, the richer the residents are, and vice versa. His apartment happened to be in the middle-class category.
What defines the American middle class? It's the "moonlight clan" – people who live paycheck to paycheck, earning just enough to break even, and whose lives could take a nosedive if something unexpected happens. So, these apartments naturally wouldn't have any security cameras or anything like that. Besides, that kind of thing isn't fashionable in America; if you actually installed cameras and placed them right in front of someone's door, you'd be asking for money.
The apartment building has five floors. According to what he heard from the landlady a few days ago, she apparently renovated it using her father's inheritance and then rented it out to others. She herself lives on the top floor because there's no elevator, and the fifth floor is difficult to rent out. That's why Renn uses magic so recklessly.
With a single leap, he went from the second-floor room to the top floor of the apartment building. Powerful mages can tear through space and time, and powerful monks can leap onto the roof in an instant.
Boom!
"Catherine, what's wrong? I think I heard you calling for help."
Raine was too weak to hear clearly, but he could make out that it was about him and that someone was pleading with him. That's why he came back to knock on the door.
"Wait a minute! I'm coming!"
He heard hurried footsteps inside; the policewoman seemed to be packing something. After a brief wait, the door opened.
A policewoman named Katherine Field appeared before Ryan. Her long white hair was braided into a ponytail, her face was unmade-up, her fair skin was flawless, and her green eyes revealed a serious expression. She gave off a very well-behaved vibe.
But her cheeks were flushed, as if she had just finished strenuous exercise. In particular, the buttons on her top were undone, revealing a red mark on her smooth, white collarbone, which made him even more certain that the policewoman had just been involved in something.
"I think I heard you shouting just now, did something happen?"
Faced with Ryan's sunny smile, Catherine's cheeks flushed even more, and she stammered that nothing was wrong.
Ryan's gaze subtly bypassed the policewoman, glancing behind her. On the sofa, her police uniform and civilian clothes lay scattered together, with a pair of crumpled pantyhose next to them, likely just taken off.
On the surface, everything seemed normal. But with his demigod-like perception, nothing in the room escaped his notice. Ryan quickly noticed an item in the corner of the sofa.
The purple sphere is connected to an electrical wire.
"..."
Raine was both amused and exasperated. He racked his brains for a long time but couldn't think of anything. He too had a day when he was used as material for a spell, and the person wasn't praying, they were in a real prayer.
The policewoman's keen senses also caught Ryan's gaze, or perhaps it was because she felt guilty. She quickly spoke, her expression like that of a startled rabbit.
"Um, if there's nothing else, would you like to come in for a drink?"
"No, I have something to do."
Just as Ryan was about to politely decline, he heard a cell phone ringing in the bedroom. Catherine quickly apologized and rushed back inside.
At the same time, footsteps came from the stairs. Ryan turned his head and saw a Black man wearing a baseball cap, with dreadlocks, and his sleeves covering half of his tattoos.
"Hello, does the landlord of this apartment building live here? I'd like to rent a room."
He waved his phone, indicating that he had contacted the landlord. Ryan stepped aside, gesturing that the room was right there.
Hearing the commotion, Catherine rushed out of the bedroom, her face still flushed. Ever since this new tenant moved in a week ago, she'd been dreaming about him every night, and sometimes it'd start to lead to wild thoughts. And now… how embarrassing!
She bit her lower lip and ran to the door, having overheard the Black man's words. She had gone to great lengths to find a tenant to pay off her student loans, car loan, and renovation loan.
After peeking out, Catherine discovered that the visitor was a Black tenant, and his appearance was... However, out of respect, she forced a smile and went out to greet him, without even having time to put on her shoes.
"Hello, are you looking to rent a room?"
Hearing the noise, the two people talking at the door stopped and turned to look at him. Ryan noticed the fleeting lewdness in the black man's eyes, which made him frown. This guy didn't look like someone looking to rent a room at all.
"Yes, I'm here to... say hello to you, Kevin."
Halfway through his sentence, the Black man's warm smile vanished, replaced by a狰狞 (zhengning, meaning ferocious or ruthless) expression. He pulled a handgun from his pocket and pointed it at Catherine. This bitch was the reason his drugs were seized by the police. The thought of possibly having to sell blood to survive filled him with rage. Kill her! And this yellow-skinned monkey next to her! Kill them both!
Catherine was stunned, her limbs stiff, staring blankly as the black man raised his pistol.
boom--
While she was in a daze, Ryan wasn't. The servant who had been standing next to the man since earlier raised his arm and delivered a powerful elbow strike to the black man's abdomen.
"Pfft!"
Before the black man could pull the trigger, the sudden attack interrupted his raised hand. His face turned deathly pale, his limbs curled up, and he trembled as he slowly knelt on the ground, unable to utter a single cry of pain. The flying pistol was caught by a servant, who then engaged the safety to prevent accidental discharge.
He didn't let the invisible servant go all out, otherwise, with its power, the black man would already have a broken sternum. After doing all this, Ryan and Catherine met eyes filled with horror.
"I...I...I didn't see anything! Don't kill me!"
The policewoman crossed her arms, squatted down, and burst into tears. Raine thought to himself, "Oh no! I've gotten so used to magic that I forgot I'm back on Earth; there's no such thing here."
"Get up, I won't kill you."
He sighed inwardly. So be it. He'd plant a seed in her mind first. Whenever Catherine tried to reveal her secret to someone, this seed would be triggered. She would fall into a month-long coma, and upon waking, she would forget everything about Raine.
The policewoman didn't react and remained crouched in place, trembling. She was just a newly recruited police officer, so why did she encounter such a thing?
"If I wanted to kill you, do you think you'd still be squatting here?"
Upon hearing this, Catherine looked up in disbelief.
