Demigod Mage in America

Chapter 40 You love America, but does America love you?

Ryan naturally noticed Catherine's arrival.

He didn't try to stop it, so why would he? This was a situation he had arranged in the first place.

However, he did not expect that Catherine would be working as a bodyguard so early in the morning.

How desperate for money is this girl?

Under his beating, the two suspects admitted they were Murphy's men, stating that they were American citizens before being members of the mystical world.

Therefore, Raine cannot violate the Law of Silence—oh, I meant what I said to Number One.

So, under Rein's control, Number One had another friendly sparring session with them.

After the two men developed bumps on their faces that were bigger than apples, he finally got the information he wanted.

The so-called Law of Silence is the rule of the mystical world.

Any struggle within the mystical world should be kept secret, and its mystique should not be revealed to Muggles, let alone disclosed to law enforcement.

The law enforcement agencies mentioned here do not refer to the police, but rather to those mystical associates who have already sided with the U.S. government.

Now that they've arrived here, they've been exposed to the police. According to the Law of Silence, they cannot die, otherwise their deaths will trigger a police investigation into the mystical world.

After listening, Ryan nodded, which was considered an acceptance of this statement.

Then he hung them upside down from the light and dialed 911.

What does investigating the mystical world have to do with Raine? He's a law-abiding citizen.

Then came the scene of one of the police officers battling the SWAT team.

Ryan had no intention of harming these ordinary people, so Number One simply smashed their car with a rock, giving Agent Smith an extra income, without hurting a single person.

When the police force began to retreat, Ryan knew that the show he had been waiting for was about to begin.

After thinking for a while, he chose to leave the scene and return to his apartment.

Knock, knock, knock! Catherine's urgent knocking sounded outside the door. After shooing the guard dogs aside, Ryan opened the door to let her in.

Dogs are essentially wolves. Guard dogs can really strangle a person to death when they are caught off guard, and the death is likely to be very quick, without even a struggle.

"Raine! Raine! Outside..."

"Shh! Quiet." Ryan sat on the sofa without turning his head, but the TV wasn't showing any program; instead, it was a surveillance video of the street.

In the video, Number One is using his hands to dig the bullet out of his body.

"This is..." Catherine's eyes widened. She had seen Number One before!

"Have a seat." Renn gestured to a servant to bring two wine glasses, which he filled.

Catherine blushed instantly when she saw the barely enough space to squeeze in next to Ryan.

You can even faintly hear the roar of a steam engine.

Ryan was watching Number One on the screen, who was fighting a monster that looked like a bee that had come to life.

Actually, Renn wanted to say fly, but the other party did have a barb on its tail.

Then I felt a weight next to me, and a warm object pressed against me.

He turned his head to meet Catherine's gaze.

"I...I'll just sit here, it's okay!" Catherine explained in a panic.

Ryan, however, looked to the other side, where there was an empty single sofa.

"..."

He felt taken advantage of, but after thinking about what was about to happen, a smile crept onto Ryan's lips.

In the scene, Number One has trampled the Bee Man under his feet and is letting out a non-human roar.

Generally speaking, the body structure of zombies has long been corroded by the power of death, but under the blessing of the divine power of Rein, Number One seems to have undergone some different changes.

"Raine, that's one of your men, isn't it?" Catherine asked, holding her wine glass, feeling somewhat awkward.

"Hmm, what's wrong?"

Why...did you do this?

Just as Ryan was about to answer, he suddenly stopped, because he sensed a mouse approaching.

It's already on the top floor.

We searched down layer by layer.

"Raine?"

"Someone's here. Want to know what they do?"

Catherine nodded, then saw Ryan disappear from her sight, and then the closed door suddenly opened.

A figure walked in, wearing a wool mask that only revealed his eyes, and holding a pistol.

"So this is where you were hiding." He pointed his gun at Catherine, his empty hand holding handcuffs and a black hood.

Although she was surprised by Ryan's actions one second and was kidnapped the next, none of that had a greater impact on her than the handcuffs in the other person's hand.

The number above is her identification number.

In other words, those were her handcuffs!

Every officer in the NYPD (New York Police Department) has a unique identification number on their police equipment.

This is for recording usage and also for facilitating accountability.

"Put them on yourself." The man tossed out the handcuffs and the black hood, his face full of contempt.

Catherine did not take any action, and the other party urged her again with great impatience.

He also brandished the pistol in his hand: "Be careful. Just because I told you not to kill me doesn't mean I can't cripple you."

Catherine's eyes continued to search her surroundings; she wanted to know what Ryan meant by this.

After her search yielded no results, she turned her attention back to the man.

"I am NYPD Constable Katherine Field. You are now suspected of multiple offenses, including kidnapping and trespassing. You still have a chance to lay down your weapon..."

Before he could finish speaking, the man pulled the trigger.

Bang! The bullet hit Ryan, who was standing next to him. He looked innocently at the red mark on his hand and then at the bullet hole on the wall.

Did I provoke you?

He never expected that he would be accidentally injured while he was just watching from the sidelines.

"Sorry, I missed. Next time, the bullet won't miss."

The smell of gunpowder from the muzzle calmed Catherine down; she recognized the gun as hers too.

She bent down to pick up the hood and handcuffs and put them on herself. She didn't know what Ryan was doing, but she knew that she only had two choices now.

Rebel, believe in yourself.

Compromise, trust in Ryan.

After quickly weighing the pros and cons, she chose the latter, because she had no other choice when faced with a gun.

Just as Catherine put on the hood, she heard a sentence.

"Don't expect your colleagues to come to your rescue. Your captain gave us permission to take you away."

Captain? Raymond?

It was as if a string in Catherine's mind snapped instantly.

Raymond may not be good at it, but isn't he a policeman?

Isn't he the guardian of the law in this country?

My father's words flashed through my mind.

"I love this country, I love this land, I love the people here, even though they are not perfect."

The intruder's incessant chatter filled my ears.

"Don't worry, I'll personally take good care of you when we arrive..."

At the same time, another voice rang in her ear, one that she recognized.

"You love America, but does America love you?"

It's Ryan's voice!
