Demigod Mage in America
Chapter 5 How about we make a bet?
The landlady was a middle-aged woman whose figure had deteriorated significantly, and she was adorned with gold and silver jewelry.
When she got out of the car and looked at the young men and women waiting by the roadside, her face showed obvious surprise.
"You want to rent this place?"
"I've had that idea, but shouldn't we take a look before renting it?"
Ryan shrugged. Just because he found the money didn't mean he wanted to waste it.
Unexpectedly, the landlord did not open the door, but seemed to be hesitating about something.
"What's wrong? Is there something wrong with this house?"
Ryan asked the question on purpose because, according to disclosure laws, the landlord was required to tell him about any unnatural deaths that had occurred in the shop.
"That's right. This place used to belong to a Chinese antique dealer. He and his wife were very much in love and had a daughter. The family was quite harmonious. But then someone said that he witnessed him dismembering his wife and daughter with a chainsaw in the middle of the night. After that, he went crazy and eventually burned himself to death in a mental hospital."
As she recounted her story, Ryan stroked his chin, while Catherine, standing beside him, seemed unfazed; she had practically grown up listening to these stories.
"Later, this place changed owners three times, but without exception, they all ran into trouble, so no one has rented it since."
"I see……"
That's a good thing, because with this kind of accident, he can definitely lower the rent.
When Ryan expressed his hope that the landlord would open the door, the woman took a few steps back as if she had been startled by something.
"W-what! You really want to go in and see?"
Raine didn't speak, but just looked at her quietly.
Forget ghosts, even the top-tier undead vampires and liches, as well as death knights, would avoid him.
He had killed the demon lord who controlled the undead countless times, and whenever he needed materials, he would go there as a weekly boss to farm.
He couldn't cast advanced spells and didn't have any divine power, but who said that a demigod without divine power couldn't kill a person or a ghost?
The landlord gritted his teeth and hesitated for a long time.
On the one hand, she didn't want to miss out on a rare tenant; on the other hand, what if this tenant died? The shop would be completely unrentable afterward.
In the end, she gritted her teeth, took out her keys, and opened the shop door.
As soon as you open the door, a chilly gust of wind hits you.
Renn fanned himself gently. It stank. There must be something unclean about it.
Catherine, who was next to him, also instinctively hugged her shoulders and quietly hid behind Raine.
She dared to bring Rain to the haunted house for an adventure not because she was a materialist and didn't believe in such things, but because she thought that a Stand user could definitely defeat ghosts... right?
The landlord, on the other hand, was completely different. Her teeth were chattering, and her limbs felt as heavy as lead. If she hadn't been leaning against the door frame, she probably would have collapsed to the ground.
"You...you go in and see for yourself!"
After saying that, she leaned against the wall and walked to the side, her hands and feet moving in unison.
Ryan glanced at Catherine behind him and gestured with his lips to indicate whether she wanted to follow him inside.
Perhaps it was the curiosity of a young person, or perhaps it was because she had just witnessed Ryan's methods, but the policewoman nodded without hesitation.
However, just before the two stepped into the shop, the landlord suddenly spoke up.
"Just so you know, once you're inside, there's no going back!"
Right now, she's not thinking about anything else; she just wants to get rid of this trouble as soon as possible.
So what if someone dies! It would be even better if this yellow-skinned monkey burned down the shop before he died.
"Going back on your word? Hmm... how about we make a bet?"
Although Raine didn't use mind reading, he could guess most of what was going on just by looking at the other person's round eyes.
He suddenly felt a bit interested; it didn't seem like a bad idea to have this landlord as his first guest.
Greedy and rude, what a good person.
"What kind of bet?"
"I bet I can stay here for one night. You can lock the door after we go inside and come back at dawn. If I survive, I'll rent this shop to you for the next ten years free of charge."
"What if it's not possible?"
"These are all yours."
Ryan ripped open his coat, revealing a bulging pocket inside filled with stacks of knives.
Most of them are 20-yuan notes, but there are also smaller 10-yuan notes. Given the quantity, even the smaller denominations are tempting.
The landlord pushed up his gold-rimmed glasses, his eyes gleaming with greed.
"Sure, but you'll have to record a video for me."
The landlord took out her phone and made Ryan repeat what she had just said, so that she wouldn't get into trouble in the future.
And Raine naturally wouldn't refuse these invitations, because he hadn't interfered with anything that had just happened, and had made the transaction request to her very honestly and fairly.
She voluntarily joined this gamble, which means she signed the contract, so what happened next was no longer up to her.
Before going in, he asked Catherine one last time if she wanted to come along.
Because of the shock she just experienced, she is currently on administrative leave and is not allowed to return to work until a psychologist determines that her psychological trauma is as expected.
The answer was yes, and Catherine showed no fear whatsoever; in fact, she seemed a little excited.
However, in her excitement, she didn't see the wicked smile on Ryan's lips.
Bang—Crack!
As soon as they went in, the door was closed, followed by the sound of it being locked.
Snapped!
Catherine turned on her flashlight, illuminating the surroundings.
"I didn't realize you were so well-prepared. Did you plan to come in and take a look from the beginning?"
"Yes, I grew up listening to stories about this place, but I never had the courage to come in and take a look. Now that I finally have the chance, of course I have to come in."
Catherine illuminated the surroundings with a flashlight.
The huge crystal chandelier was covered in dust, and the soft carpet on the floor was filthy.
However, if it only goes this far, then everything is still acceptable.
But a glaring bloodstain ruined the entire atmosphere, casting an ominous shadow over this old antique shop.
"Look..."
Catherine was halfway through her sentence when she suddenly realized that there was no one beside her.
"Raine?"
She called out softly, her hand already unconsciously reaching for her waist.
Catherine's hand reached for empty air; she then remembered that she was on administrative leave!
Because she had just graduated, she hadn't had time to take the NYPD's assessment and was therefore not allowed to carry firearms while not on duty.
"what……"
A deep, hoarse voice drifted past her ear.
Catherine felt a chill run down her spine, her hair stood on end, and she clenched her fingers so hard that her nails dug deep into her flesh. The pain briefly restored some of her rationality from her tense mind.
She stepped back, shining her flashlight towards the source of the sound.
A ragged man held a chainsaw; his severely burned face was only vaguely recognizable by his eyes.
"what!"
Although she is a police officer, she is also a girl.
What does it feel like when a monster from a horror movie runs right up to you? Catherine didn't understand before, but now she does.
Her previous desire to resist had completely vanished; she just wanted to turn around and leave.
However, she hadn't run far when she felt herself bump into something.
It was a strange statue of a mounted general in armor, holding a bizarre halberd entwined with snakes.
Catherine shone her flashlight over and discovered that the statue's eyes were closed.
"what……"
The pursuit from behind made her dare not linger, and she did not notice that Renn, who was leaning against the statue, was watching the scene in front of her with a smile.
