Demigod Mage in America

Chapter 93: Just leave a moment to breathe.

The van came to a steady stop in front of the pre-war apartment building.

"Boss, we're here," David said cautiously, glancing in the rearview mirror.

Throughout the journey, Renn's expression remained calm and was quite eerie.

"Hmm." He simply murmured a reply through his nostrils before closing his eyes and leaning back in his seat.

At this moment, Number One was bent over, glancing sideways at the fifth floor, as if something there was attracting his attention.

"Go," Renn murmured softly, without opening his eyes, "Bring one of them back alive."

Toby traded himself for the lifelong peace and happiness of his wife and daughters in Ryan, so he naturally had to provide after-sales service as well.

On the fifth floor of the pre-war apartment building, four men, armed with guns and knives, were crouching at the main entrance.

Creak! The door suddenly opened, and a woman carrying two bags of trash walked out of the room.

The four people hiding in the shadows were not discovered because of the backlighting.

They had done their reconnaissance before coming, making sure there were no patrolling police officers around and that most people in the apartment were asleep before they made their way up the fire escape stairs.

"Boss, didn't you say there was only one old woman inside?"

"How would I know? The last time I saw her was three years ago."

The four listened to the sounds coming from the wooden staircase while whispering among themselves.

"Then why bother?"

"Of course I'll do it. Do you want to go back to Brülink? Do you want to stay in that underpaid job forever?"

"In no mood!"

"What else is there to say? When that woman comes back, we'll pin her down, and then you come in with me to search the place. The rest of you will wait at the door."

"good!"

Claudine threw the trash in her hand into the trash can and turned to walk towards the apartment.

She helped an elderly woman, and after learning about her situation, the woman hired her as a live-in caregiver, along with her daughter Amanda.

Her husband, however, has been missing since he left last time, and Claudina has no idea where he went.

Knowing her husband as she did, she knew he would call her regularly no matter where he went, but now he hadn't even made a call.

Toby… Claudina was a little sad. She knew her husband wouldn't abandon her. If he hadn't called her for so long, there was only one possibility: something had happened to him.

While massaging her aching back after a long day to relieve the pain, she held onto the handrail as she walked up the stairs.

Strangely enough, since her husband left, her health has gradually improved. At worst, she had a cold and sneezed, and she hadn't had a fever for a long time.

My lumbar spine, which had been aching, is still a little sore, but I no longer need to take painkillers or feel dizzy.

Claudina reached the doorway, holding onto the handrail, and noticed the overhead light flickering a few times.

She thought to herself that she would talk to the apartment manager tomorrow and ask them to replace the light at the entrance.

The majority of residents in this apartment building are elderly people whose children are not around and who have to rely on themselves.

Because there is no elevator, most people choose to sell the house or rent it out and move to other places.

So, in reality, she was the only one left on that floor.

Just as Claudina turned the key and pulled down the doorknob...

A burly man suddenly rushed out of the darkness in her blind spot and grabbed her hand tightly.

"Ah! Let me go! Help!" she screamed, flailing her limbs wildly in an attempt to fend off the attacker.

At the same time, the light bulb broke, and the flickering light went out completely.

The entire corridor was plunged into darkness, with only Claudina's continuous screams remaining.

"Shut up! Shut up!" the man growled in a low voice, while reaching out to cover her mouth.

Claudina was pushed into the room by him, and then she discovered that there were other strangers there as well.

She lowered her voice, careful not to provoke the group: "Who...who are you? What do you want?"

No one answered her. A man grabbed her tightly and pressed a gun against her chin.

"Listen to me, girl, we'll be done soon."

The other man was simply searching the house.

The room wasn't furnished in a high-end style, but it was full of life and a sense of nostalgia.

There are many items that are clearly no longer used, yet they are still placed in the room.

The walls are covered with photographs, ranging from young couples to elderly couples.

The most eye-catching thing is a bookcase, but instead of books, it is filled with wooden boxes.

The wooden boxes were open, and there were about 10 of them, each containing a medal.

The most eye-catching feature is undoubtedly the green laurel wreath surrounding the medal, with a gold five-pointed star in the center, clover decorations at the top of each corner, and the Statue of Liberty's head at the very center.

A Medal of Honor belonging to the Air Force is the highest honor awarded by the U.S. military.

The award is conferred upon individuals who have demonstrated bravery and courage in war and have undertaken tasks exceeding their duties at great risk.

"Boss, look! It's a Medal of Honor!" The man was overjoyed. This was a Medal of Honor, which could sell for $10 on the black market.

The man holding Claudia looked over as well and noticed that there were not only medals of honor, but also bronze and purple star medals.

He'd struck gold! Greed filled his eyes, oblivious to the eerie silence outside.

This family no longer needs to worry about cash; this cabinet of medals alone could fetch hundreds of thousands of US dollars.

No! It's probably much more than that.

He discovered that these medals even had ribbons and records.

In other words, these are all genuine products, and buyers don't need to worry about buying counterfeit goods.

Therefore, the price could definitely be much higher!

He excitedly pressed down on Claudia, completely oblivious to her constant glances towards the room: "Hurry up!"

Looking at this group of fierce-looking people, Claudina could only pray to God to save her, and at the same time hope that these people would not go into the room.

Her daughter Amanda and the lady of the house were resting inside.

But Claudine clearly underestimated the other party's greed.

After collecting the valuables in the lobby into their bags, they actually headed towards their room.

Seeing this, Claudina panicked. She instinctively bit the hand covering her mouth, and after breaking free, shouted, "No!"

"Damn bitch!" The man covered his hand, wanting to slap her hard, but the slap didn't land.

Because a large, steel-like hand grabbed the man's arm and pulled him backward.

By the light, the man could see who it was: a strange man wearing a military green overcoat and sunglasses.

The other person's muscles made him think he was running into Schwarzenegger.

Before the man could react, a chop to the back of his neck struck him, instantly knocking him unconscious.

At the same time, the dim room brightened because of the noise, and someone turned on the lights.
