Super God Academy: Kabuto
Chapter 29 New Neighbors
The morning light of Juxia City filtered through the curtains, bathing the room in a warm golden hue. Lin Yu stood by the window, watching helicopters taking off and landing in the distance become mere black dots on the horizon.
Kabuto's insect instrument hovered quietly above his shoulder, its shell shimmering with a dark red luster in the morning light.
"She's back," Lin Yu said softly. "What do you think I should do today?"
The insect-shaped device circled him gracefully, its unique electronic sound vibrating in the air:
No matter what you do, she will like it.
Lin Yu paused slightly, then chuckled. His fingertips gently traced the insect's cool, metallic exoskeleton.
"you're right."
This morning, the warriors removed their armor.
He was just an older brother who longed for his sister to come home.
Qi Lin pushed open the door, and an enticing aroma of food wafted into her nostrils, instantly enveloping her. "Brother, I'm home!" she called out, her voice light and cheerful with the joy of returning home.
"Hmm," Lin Yu's steady voice came from the kitchen, accompanied by the familiar sound of a spatula clattering against a wok, "Wash your hands, it's time to eat."
"Okay!" Qi Lin readily agreed, hung up her coat, obediently washed her hands, and sat down at the dining table. Her eyes were fixed on the kitchen, like a kitten waiting to be fed.
A moment later, Lin Yu came out carrying the last dish of braised pork, which looked and smelled delicious. Looking at his sister's expectant face, he couldn't help but chuckle: "Dinner's ready, you little glutton."
"Today's dishes are all your favorites," Lin Yu said, setting out the bowls and chopsticks and sitting opposite her. "Let's eat."
Qi Lin couldn't wait any longer. She picked up a piece of braised pork and stuffed it into her mouth, her cheeks puffing out slightly as she ate, her eyes squinting with satisfaction.
Lin Yu watched her wolf down her food, his gaze softening, yet still carrying a hint of helpless smile. He spoke slowly, his tone carrying a solemnity inherited from a distant past:
Grandma used to say that mealtimes are the time when angels descend, the most sacred time.
Upon hearing this, Qi Lin abruptly stopped chewing, raised her head blankly, still with food in her mouth, and looked at her brother with confused eyes, as if trying to understand the connection between "angel" and "eating".
Looking at her bewildered yet adorable expression, Lin Yu swallowed back the words of etiquette and reverence he was about to utter. He shook his head with a helpless smile, reached for a tissue, and handed it to her.
"Never mind, you can keep eating."
Qi Lin gave a half-understanding "Oh," took the tissue to wipe her mouth, and continued her "battle" with the food, though her movements unconsciously became lighter and slower. Lin Yu watched her subtle change, a barely perceptible smile curving his lips.
The cozy lunchtime was interrupted by an untimely doorbell ring.
Lin Yu frowned slightly, put down his chopsticks, and stood up. He opened the door and saw a tall, stunningly beautiful woman with cascading silver hair standing outside. Her demeanor seemed somewhat out of place in this ordinary residential building.
"Hello, who are you looking for?" Lin Yu's tone carried a subtle hint of detachment.
The silver-haired woman looked him up and down, then gave him a friendly smile: "Hello, I just moved in. I live next door, so I came over for a visit."
"Oh." Lin Yu's reaction was very calm. "Is there anything else?"
(The silver-haired woman's inner monologue: This child is quite aloof.)
"Oh, nothing else..." she said, but her gaze drifted past Lin Yu's shoulder, taking a quick sniff. "It smells really good inside. Are you eating? I just moved in and haven't eaten all morning. Can I try some?"
Before Lin Yu could refuse, she deftly slipped past him and into the house.
Qi Lin, who was engrossed in her meal, was startled when the beautiful stranger suddenly entered. She put down her chopsticks and asked, "Hello, are you looking for my brother?"
"No, it's not that," the silver-haired woman smiled even more warmly, "I live next door, I just came over for a visit. I didn't eat breakfast this morning, could I try some of your food? It smells so good."
"Oh, okay!" Qi Lin nodded obediently, immediately got up and pulled out a chair. "Sister, sit here." With that, she ran into the kitchen and brought out a clean set of bowls and chopsticks.
When Lin Yu closed the door and came back, this was the scene he saw: his younger sister and a strange silver-haired woman were sitting side by side at the dining table, both of them eating with great concentration.
He sighed helplessly to himself.
"Never mind," he said casually, sitting back down in his seat. "Let's eat first."
