American homeless people, surviving in the city

Chapter 80 Cell Phones and Passports

The phone pulled out of the woven bag wasn't a smartphone, but a classic brick-like phone.

The phone body was badly worn, but the outer casing was still relatively intact. It felt heavy in the hand, which reminded Lin Qi of the era when Nokia dominated the mobile phone market more than a decade ago.

Why would there be such an old cell phone in the original owner's woven bag? Even in America, where mobile payments aren't widespread, this kind of phone can hardly do anything except make calls and send text messages.

Could it be because the original owner was so poor that she could only afford this kind of phone?

Lin Qi had some doubts, but he could still come up with a reasonable explanation in his mind, so he didn't think about it any further.

He excitedly pressed the power button, and the screen lit up as expected. After so many days, the battery still had two bars left.

...No wonder it's Nokia, it's really durable!

The phone had no password, and Lin Qi was able to access the main interface without any problems.

...Very good, now the next step is to investigate the information on the phone.

Logically speaking, if this phone was the original owner's everyday phone, it should contain records of his previous daily calls with others, text messages exchanged, and possibly information left by the original owner in the memo section.

Even at the very least, the phone's address book should still contain contact information for some of the original owner's former relatives and friends.

However, when Lynch browsed the information on his phone, he was completely dumbfounded.

The phone's contacts are empty, the call log is empty, the text messages are empty, and the memos are empty.

This phone looks brand new, it's completely factory set, and it's empty inside, with no trace of previous use!

Lynch: "?"

Is this reasonable?

Given the numerous scratches on the phone's casing, it's clearly not a brand-new phone – it's 2025, and there's no way a brand-new Nokia phone could be out of the loop.

Therefore, several questions slowly surfaced in Lin Qi's mind.

Is this phone really the original one? If it is, why didn't he leave any traces of use on it?

If it's not the original owner's, then where did this phone come from? Why was all the signs of use removed so thoroughly?

...Could it be that the original owner stole this phone, cleaned up the information on it, put it in a woven bag, and prepared to sell it later?

As he thought about it, Lin Qi felt like he had come up with a reasonable explanation.

While this explanation seems reasonable, it is ultimately just speculation without any evidence.

Since he couldn't find any clues about his original identity on the phone, Lin Qi simply put the phone aside and continued searching through the woven bag.

Soon, something new and noteworthy came into Lynch's view.

Beneath those tattered clothes, a suit appeared.

Although suits are no longer considered a luxury in modern society, they still stand out conspicuously among these tattered clothes.

Lin Qi pulled the suit jacket out of the pile of clothes and held it up in front of him to examine it carefully.

The suit was dark gray, well-tailored, and made of smooth and textured fabric. The fit was also excellent, making it clear at a glance that it was expensive. It stood out from the tattered clothes around it.

Besides the suit, among the pile of clothes, you could also find dress pants, a tie, a white shirt, and even a pair of shiny leather shoes.

In short, the woven bag contained a complete formal suit.

It seemed utterly illogical for such a high-end suit to appear in the woven bag of the original owner of this homeless man, but combining it with his previous guesses, Lin Qi naturally came up with a reasonable explanation for the suit's origin:

...This suit was probably stolen from some high-end department store.

With so much stolen goods in the woven bag, was the original owner of this body a thief?

Lynch raised his arm and examined his hands, trying to see if there were any calluses from years of picking locks or marks from using wire, but he found nothing.

...I can't tell.

Finding no clues about his original identity in the suit, Lin Qi continued searching through the pile of clothes.

This time, he felt a square, slightly hard object in the pocket of a tattered cotton coat, like a card.

He reached in, pulled the thing out, and examined it closely.

It turned out to be a passport.

On the deep red leather cover, the golden Federal Eagle and a circle of twelve stars gleamed.

The words "BUNDESREPUBLIK DEUTSCHLAND" on it made it immediately clear to Lynch that it was a German passport.

...But the original owner clearly had an Asian appearance, yet what was found in the woven bag was a German passport? Could it be that the original owner also stole this passport?

With a touch of curiosity, Lin Qi opened the passport, but when he saw what was inside the cover, his pupils suddenly contracted:

Inside the cover, all the information pages had been neatly cut out with scissors or similar tools and disappeared, leaving only the traces of the stamped seal on the cover!

Lin Qi couldn't help but gasp.

The passport was destroyed very professionally, leaving no trace!

Looking at the passport, which had been handled to an extremely clean state, Lin Qi fell into deep thought.

Generally speaking, those who can enter the United States with a passport already have at least temporary legal status. In this respect, they have surpassed many undocumented Mexican immigrants and those who have crossed borders.

People who tear up passports are generally those who want to stay in the United States and are willing to lose their status for it.

But what does it mean that Germany forcibly funded America?

This is incredibly rare!

Lin Qi could give a reasonable explanation for the cell phone and suit he had found before, but he couldn't figure out why the passport, which had been cut up beyond recognition, was in the original owner's woven bag.

Filled with doubt, Lin Qi temporarily set his passport aside.

The pile of clothes had been almost completely searched; among the filthy, smelly tattered clothes, there was nothing of interest to be found anymore.

Lin Qi simply pulled the entire bundle of clothes out of the woven bag and threw it aside.

Finally, he reached his hand into the bag again, and this time, his fingertips touched a cold piece of metal.

As Lin Qi took the object out of the bag, he felt an unprecedented heaviness in his hand.

When the object was finally removed, a deep black light immediately caught Lin Qi's eye.

That was a pistol.

In his previous life, Lynch had never seen a firearm outside of shooting games and military museums, and this was the first time he had ever held a firearm in his hands.

Feeling the heavy weight and unique cold touch, Lin Qi felt an indescribable excitement.

Besides the pistol, there were also a few loose bullets scattered at the bottom of the bag.

Once combined, this piece of metal can be transformed into a deadly weapon at any time!
