Learning to Love Again

"Your goals in life are too mediocre." Su Duyi taps his sister's forehead.

Before she could hit him back, a middle-aged man at the door announces the arrival of Su Kong and his wife Wu Ehuang.

Everyone rises to greet the old man who strides in with a big grin on his face.

Even though he was once a police officer and has a naturally imposing aura, it could not cover his happiness.

He is very content with life. Right now, he is surrounded by his wife, children, and grandchildren celebrating his seventieth birthday.

He also recently found out that his grandson's wife is pregnant. That means he will be a great-grandfather in just a few months.

He should have long been a great-grandfather surrounded by toddlers and babies, but his two oldest grandsons delayed their marriages because they wanted to have stable careers before starting families.

Late is still better than never.

Once Su Kong sits down at the high table with his wife, everyone else takes their seats.

He sweeps his eyes across the crowd and sees his two sons Su Boqin and Su Ling sitting together with their wives beside them. There is no sign of his youngest son, Su Feng.

Turning his head away, he takes notice of Su Lian and smiles at her.

Wu Ehuang also sees her and wants to immediately call out the prodigal child but she feels her husband's warning gaze and keeps quiet.

It is his birthday and she does not want to anger him.

Su Kong did not think much into Su Lian's disappearance.

In his eyes, it was justifiable.

She was nineteen when she left. Already an adult and she even had her Master's degree. Plus with what had been going on at home, he thought that it was reasonable for her to want a change of environment. In fact, he even blamed himself for not raising his son right.

He was only unhappy that she didn't tell them and lost all contact.

But she is back now and her first official appearance is at his birthday banquet.

Entertainment and chatter began and the hall became enshrouded in a bustling and happy atmosphere.

Halfway through it all, the door swings open and a 'family of three' dressed in flamboyant clothing arrogantly stride inside.

Who else would it be if not for them?

With his new found wealth, Su Feng was getting out of hand.

It is his father's seventieth birthday banquet and he shows up two hours late with his bastard and mistress.

This is a complete disregard for his father and older brothers who planned all of this.

Seeing her youngest son, Wu Ehuang's eyes brighten. "Feng'er, you've come."

Su Feng walks to the front and slightly bows. "Mother, father pardon my late arrival."

"It's fine. We know that you are busy with work. It is good that you came but also make sure to take care of your health."
