Paying The Price

Chapter 26 - It Wasn't My Fault.

Wayne knew he had really hit the wrong spot but like Gabriel said, they had to be alive first before they could bond together.

"It's not like that, it's just I really have to go, and when am back I promise, this time unfailingly, that I'll be with you and I'll never leave you." The chauffeur had never seen Wayne speak with so much emotion, a heartfelt one at that. He could only pray the kid understands and obediently agree to Wayne's offer.

Any other kid would, but not Pearl.

"It's OK, I don't expect you to be with me." She put on a bright face. "Cause you're not my dad."

If only, if only she didn't say those words the chauffeur could still have a stable breath.

Wayne felt hopeless, he had two options, stay with her now and lose her forever, leave her and still lose her forever.

"If you treasure me, you can take me along, it's not like I'll be with you in the office or anything, just being in the hotel would be nice. But am nothing to you." At the end of her statement she opened the car door, seeing they've arrived at the coffee shop.

Wayne's eyes widened, that actually wasn't a bad idea.

He could go on the mission in the day, afterwards return to her at night in the extremely secured lounge. Those few times could make a difference.

.....

Pearl entered first before Wayne.

Diana was a little surprised to see them back so soon but again it's Wayne. Probably work came up and he had to return her.

Due to Diana's threat, Wayne could only leave a piece of paper on the counter top right in front of her conveying the message 'Get her ready by 8 am tomorrow, am picking her up.' then walked out without saying a word.

What was he up to?

Diana took her phone out from her pocket and sent him a message 'Where are you taking her?' but got no reply.

.......

That evening in the Daniel's residence.

Leon just arrived at his parents home after getting an urgent message from his father. He was about to announce his presence but swallowed his words when he saw two familiar figures sitting across his parents.

Sarah King and her father Harris King turned to his direction when they heard his footsteps.

"Look who's here, we were just talking about you son." Leon's father, Roger Daniel spoke up.

"Umm... Good evening to you all..... um, I have to go upstairs, I'll join you shortly." Leon rushed to his old room quickly, he knew this scenario too well.

Charlie stood up as well "Please excuse while I check on him." Politely excusing herself she ran upstairs to her son.

In his room, Leon moved around the room with great distress, the sound of the opening door drew his attention.

"Leon, are you okay?" Charlie asked in a caring tone.

Leon's silence made her continue "I know this is difficult but you have to make a choice."

"It wasn't my fault." Leon finally said.

"That night wasn't my fault, but why am I paying for it."
