Paying The Price

The reason why the King's were here, was not only to form a marriage alliance but also to dig up an old scar. The event that took place when they were teenagers was often used to weigh Leon down. Charlie walked up to her son, she placed both hands on his arms, holding them a little firmly "Leon, no one is forcing you, no one is saying you must. You have to decide on your own, it's either you say yes or no." Roger may not be a good man, but since she married him out of love, being the the sweet innocent girl that fell in love with a bad boy, Charlie somehow enjoyed her marriage unlike her parents arranged marriage that never worked out.

Charlie was delighted not to experience her parents predicament and she didn't want her son to. But Leon on the other hand wasn't very cooperative, he never agreed or rejected, making it difficult for her to fully understand what he wanted. Was it because he wasn't ready to take up any responsibilities or that he didn't like her.

Sign, if only that didn't happen, perhaps he would have been more out spoken.

Leon stared at his mother clear eyes, he wanted to explain how he truly felt but he couldn't bring himself to do so, all he said was "I can't hurt her feelings."

"You're right, you can't. But what about yours?" Charlie's question made Leon stare at the floor once more.

Of course he was dying inside.

"Leon am gonna go downstairs, when you're ready come down and say what's on your mind." Charlie left Leon with his thoughts.

After about ten minutes, Leon took a deep breath and walked out of the room.

In the sitting room, Roger and Harris chatted happily, recalling old times. While Charlie and Sarah discussed a little. Leon approached them "Mr King, Sarah, am so sorry but something urgent just came up and I'll be leaving town for sometime, why don't we talk when am back."

"Leon." Sarah called out as he was about to leave. She walked up him and held his hands with her eyes sparkling under the light.

"Am sorry about today, I didn't mean to loose it like that. Please forgive me." She spoke softly with her face showing pure innocence as she looked at him for forgiveness.

"It was nothing, I understand." Seeing her petal like face made his heart sting. How could he say no?

Leon got into his car in the garage, he firmly griped the steering and buried his face on his arms. He was really divided.
