Paying The Price

Diana looked at her daughter who was some few step ahead, observing the items gleefully, before replying Evelyn in a soft tone. "I.....I just want Pearl to grow up in a happy family and that's why I took her away but she needs a father, thought she never mentioned wanting one, I can see it in her eyes, that d.e.s.i.r.e I ones had whenever I saw other kids with their parents."

Diana couldn't help but bow her head when she thought of her loss. Diana's parents moved to Titan city when she was two, she never had contact with any of her relatives, plus her parents were reserved and didn't really have close friends, so she had no where to go. At the orphanage, no one would coax her to sleep, meals weren't the joyful occasion she was used to, the beds had to be shared and supplies were sometimes insufficient for all. Now 26, Diana still clearly remembers her parents soothing voice, she had a blur memory of them but they were forever in her heart. "I have no intention of getting back together with him, but if he plays his role as a father well, then we'll live our separate ways, if he's unable to do so I'll ask for a divorce first." Diana added.

"Listen, am not trying to make you reconcile with him, but I think he misses you, I mean we don't see that often but expression is somehow miserable like he's missing something in him. Look am always here if you need anything okay, just don't hesitate to call me and I'll support your decision, as long as it makes you happy."

"Thanks so much, I really appreciate it." Diana gave her a hug as she thanked her

"You're always welcome, that aside don't you need a job or something?, I can arrange something for you."

"Oh yeah, I already have arrangements to work in Hailey's parents coffee shop, I'll start the day after tomorrow."

"OK, if that's what you want, it's good then... I know it's sudden but can you come for dinner tomorrow, things may be a little awkward for.."

"Don't worry I'll be there, I'll bring sugar along." Diana interrupted "But am not sure Nikki would want to come." She added while chuckling.

"Well if she doesn't want to come don't force her, just come with Pearl, OK.

"OK."

Later that night at the Grands residence.

A rare scene occurred, every one in the Grand's nuclear family was present for dinner. Grandma, father and mother and the three siblings were all together in the dinning room.

Ronin cleared his throat "Everyone I have an information for you all." He stole a glance of Wayne who was focused on eating his food, seeing he wasn't going to stop him, he continued " Diana is back."

"Why is she back?" Edna broke the silence with a sneer.

"Maybe she finally misses Wayne." Ronin was trying obviously trying to please Wayne. Still Wayne didn't even look up once.

"She must want money." Edna said in anger. "Wayne, divorce her already and give her whatever she wants so she can just go away". Edna told the nonchalant Wayne.

"Mother don't say that, Wayne doesn't want a divorce." Owen replied

" It doesn't matter what he wants but what he needs." Edna persisted.

"Come on grandma, he's old enough to make his choice." Kayla said, but she noticed her mother didn't bother to stand up for Diana. "Mom, why aren't you saying anything and what are you looking at?" Kayla sat next to her mother, so she leaned towards her to look at her phone.

"Nothing, just some photos of me and my granddaughter." Evelyn still looked at her phone smiling.

"What?"

"What?"

Ronin and Kayla exclaimed jointly. "When did you meet her?" Ronin asked, he was sure he was the first to know.

"She called me immediately she landed."

"Oh my God, Pearl is so cute, look at her." Kayla took the phone from her mother and showed Ronin the photos.
