Unfortunately, it backfired.

In this world, there are some things that you can't simply refuse to get rid of.

The class meeting was held that afternoon.

With a smug, infuriating smile, Chabashira Sae announced that the "special exam" would begin again tonight.

Under the enthusiastic gaze of the entire class, Horikita Suzune almost without hesitation used her previous victory as an excuse to forcefully claim the only spot.

Ayanokouji simply watched silently without saying a word.

Until after school.

While most students flocked to clubs or dormitories, Ayanokouji, who was about to go back to his dormitory to lie down, was stopped at the corner of the stairs by a woman who always smelled of tobacco.

"Is there something you need, Mr. Chabashira?"

Ayanokouji's tone was flat.

Chabashira leaned against the wall, lit a slender cigarette, exhaled a smoke ring, and then casually spoke:

“A few days ago, a man contacted the school.”

"He pressured the school through some channels, demanding that Kiyotaka Ayanokoji be expelled unconditionally."

Ayanokouji turned around.

He stared blankly at the tea stalk Sae:

"That's really nonsensical."

"Although we don't know who that person is, the school shouldn't just listen to such an unreasonable request and expel the student so easily, right?"

"Oh."

Chashu Sae chuckled softly and flicked her cigarette ash:

"That's natural."

"No one can override the will of the school these days."

"now?"

Ayanokouji keenly grasped this somewhat subtle keyword.

Before he could think it through, Chabashira Sae changed the subject:

"However, if it causes trouble, that's a different story. Not to mention..."

She paused here, her expression becoming somewhat complicated.

It contains a certain playful, spectator-like quality, yet also seems to conceal a subtle, almost imperceptible pity.

"Fine, I might as well tell you frankly."

"As long as you are still a highly educated student, and as long as you don't want to leave, no one can force you to leave. Of course, even if you want to leave yourself... hehe."

Chabashira Sae stubbed out her cigarette and turned her head:

"Let me give you one last piece of advice, Ayanokouji."

"It's best not to stay in the teaching building tonight."

Watching the homeroom teacher's departing figure, Kiyotaka Ayanokouji stood there, his brows slightly furrowed.

He could guess that the other party wanted to extract some value from him, but he didn't understand the warning before leaving.

'A provocation? Or some kind of hint?'

Despite his feelings, Ayanokouji did not leave immediately.

He had to admit that Chabashira Sae had rekindled his long-dormant curiosity.

And so he stood in the corridor, watching the sun slowly sink below the horizon.

About ten more minutes passed.

"Ayanokouji-kun?"

Hirata Yosuke, a classmate, happened to pass by and was somewhat surprised to see Ayanokouji alone.

"It's so late, haven't you gone home yet? Who are you waiting for?"

Kiyotaka Ayanokouji snapped out of his thoughts, raised his phone and waved it, lying without batting an eye:

"No, I just thought the scenery was nice today and wanted to take a picture."

Yosuke Hirata followed his gaze to the magnificent sunset clouds outside the window and agreed:

"It was indeed a very beautiful sunset."

"Then I won't bother you any longer, I'll go first..."

Just as the two nodded to each other, preparing to part ways.

"ah--!!!"

A scream abruptly shattered the tranquility of dusk.
