Warhammer: Empire Reboot
Page 775
After a ten-thousand-year slumber, he awoke to find his father a zombie, his brothers all dead, and the empire insane.
These things are trapped in the chest cavity of a prototype and need an outlet.
Chaos is precisely that exit!
Six members of the Mourning Guard rushed out of the barracks, their grenades and chain blades pointed at the Lion King.
The Lion King shattered the ground, his entire body crashing into them like a dark lightning bolt.
The first strike of the greatsword cleaved through the leader's chain blades and hands, the blade then plunged into his chest cavity and emerged from behind.
The action of pulling the sword from the corpse became the starting point for his second strike, a horizontal slash that cut two members of the Mourning Guard on the left in half at the waist.
The fourth person fired from behind, the bullet hitting the Lion King's armor and exploding into a burst of sparks.
The Lion King turned around and cleaved his opponent from left shoulder to right hip with a single sword strike.
The fifth and sixth place players retreated simultaneously, attempting to create distance and suppress the enemy with explosives.
The Lion King stepped into the shadows.
He disappeared from their sight.
The next moment, he emerged from the shadows behind the fifth-ranked player.
The greatsword pierced through his back and emerged from his chest.
The sixth man had barely turned his head when the sword was drawn and sliced off his head horizontally.
The cult members began to flee.
The Lion King drew his sword and walked into the depths of the mine. Every creature he encountered along the way, marked with an eight-pointed star, was chopped into pieces as he passed.
More than 300 slaves were imprisoned in the mine tunnels.
They huddled in the iron cage, watching through the bars as the white-haired old man emerged from the darkness, carrying a blood-dripping greatsword.
The Lion King used the tip of his sword to break the chains.
After opening the last iron cage, he turned and walked into the shadows of the mine tunnel exit, stepped inside, and disappeared.
Kamas, Fifth Mining Area.
The Lion King emerged from the shadows at the base of the sacrificial tower, two layers of blood already dried on his greatsword.
Then he stopped.
There is no longer any living Chaos in this camp.
The corpses of the horned orcs were scattered on the ground, their cuts clean, as if they had been killed by an extremely sharp blade.
The bodies of cult members were piled up at the edge of the camp, most of them beheaded or pierced through the chest.
Several Chaos Space Marine wrecks lay in the center, their power armor torn open and their reactors ripped out of their chests.
The sacrificial tower has collapsed.
It is broken in two from the middle, and the cross-section is smooth.
At the far end of the camp, Lawson was pulling the Claw of Horus from the neck of the last warrior of the Thousand Eyes Chapter.
The head was still hanging on the finger blade.
Lawson jerked his hand, and his head rolled to the ground.
He turned around and saw the Lion King standing at the edge of the shadows.
The two men stared at each other across a pile of corpses.
Lawson smiled.
"Your Majesty, Lion King, you are too late."
The Lion King glanced at the number of corpses on the ground, then looked at Lawson, whose body had almost no new wounds.
"You're faster than I expected."
Lawson sheathed his battle axe, and golden flames flowed, cleaning the bloodstains from Horus's Claw.
“There are also four mining areas and two city ruins,” the Lion King said.
Lawson looked at the black smoke rising on the distant horizon.
"The ruins of that smelting city to the south should house the main force of the Thousand Eyes Chapter, at least fifty Chaos Space Marines, plus the wizard Therafax himself."
The Lion King's expression changed.
"The wizard is mine."
Lawson shrugged: "Go ahead, I'll go sweep the three mining areas in the north."
The Lion King drew his sword, his cloak billowing.
"Don't go too slow."
He stepped into the shadow beneath his feet and disappeared.
Looking at the empty darkness, Lawson turned and walked toward the static force field that had unfolded behind him.
"Don't be too slow, old man."
In both directions, large numbers of Chaos garrisons are about to face their final minutes on Kamath.
For the next hour, Kamas became a slaughterhouse.
In the three northern mining areas, Losen is like a cutting blade on an assembly line.
The Broken Horned Orc was cleaved in two by an axe, the Chaos Warrior's power armor was torn apart like cardboard, cultists fell in droves, and sacrificial towers broke and collapsed one by one.
In the ruins of the Southern Smelting City, the Lion King's methods were completely different.
He would draw his sword and kill, then retreat into the shadows, only to emerge again from the shadows in another direction.
The Chaos Warriors of the Thousand Eyes Chapter set up a complete defensive fortification in the ruins, including sandbags, barbed wire, firing points, crossfire lines, warning runes, and trap triggers.
These things are meaningless in front of the Lion King.
He emerged from the shadows of a wall, cleaving two shield-wielding warriors in two with his greatsword, smashing the cover of the firing point, and slicing the heavy weapons operator inside into three pieces, gun and all.
Six warriors from the Thousand Eyes Legion flanked them from the flank, unleashing a barrage of explosives.
The Lion King sidestepped the first round, stepped into the shadow of the rubble beneath his feet, and disappeared.
The next second he emerged from the shadows at the rear of the flanking squad, his greatsword cleaving through the back of the last man's head, piercing the entire column in one strike.
When the sword pierced through the first man's chest, the torsos of the four men in the middle had already been crushed by the blade.
The wizard Therafax hides in the deepest altar of the Smelting City.
Twelve sensing runes floated around the altar.
For the past two years, he has used this network to control every mine, every city ruin, and every mutated orc breeding farm on the planet Kamas.
Now, the runes are extinguishing one by one.
Each rune that extinguished was accompanied by a rapid, terrifying echo.
That was the psionic feedback from the garrison commander in his last moments before his death.
Serafax completed the assessment quickly.
The enemy is extremely fast, and its kill efficiency far exceeds that of a regular Astartes.
The three northern mining areas were cleared out simultaneously within minutes, and the outposts surrounding the southern smelting city also collapsed in sync.
This ability to strike multiple points simultaneously could be achieved by either an elite fleet conducting orbital cleanup or by two or more extremely powerful entities advancing on the surface.
In either case, it's not something he can confront head-on.
Serafax immediately decided to run.
The altar rune array has switched modes from monitoring to teleportation.
Purple light spread beneath his feet as Tzeentch's power tore through the reality layer, opening a short-range subspace portal to low orbit.
Seraphus disappeared from the altar.
When the shadows deep within the ruins of the Smelting City cracked open, the Lion King stepped out to face an empty altar.
The runes were still glowing with embers.
The residual subspace ripples from the transmission have not yet dissipated.
The Lion King looked at the open space, sniffed the lingering scent of the subspace in the air, and stepped into the shadows.
……
Low orbit around Kamas, flagship of the Thousand Eyes Warband.
As Seraph emerged from the teleportation array, the cult officers on the bridge immediately turned to him.
"High Priest, what happened on the surface? All communications are down..."
Serafax did not answer that stupid question.
"All ships move into orbital bombardment positions."
An officer from the Ten Thousand Eyes Legion asked, "High Priest, our troops are still on the surface!"
"Nothing."
Seraphus walked to the main control panel on the bridge, placed his hands on the crystal ball, and channeled Tzeentch's power into the fire control system.
"Planetary bombardment, covering all types of bombs, leaving no blind spots. All living things on the surface, including slaves, orcs, and anything still breathing, will be wiped out."
This order caused several officers on the bridge to exchange glances.
Seraphus turned his head, and nine eyes stared at them simultaneously.
"If you don't comply within ten seconds, you and that planet will die."
The officers began operating the equipment.
The cannon of the Thousand Eyes turned towards the planet Kamas.
The four escort ships around them adjusted their positions at the same time, and the low rumble of the cannons charging came from deep within the hull.
Seraphus looked at the gray planet Kamas in the viewport.
