"Huh? Is that so?" Tamaki asked with a forced smile.
Left with no other choice, Lelouch had to hand over the accounting job to the honest Fan.
………………
In the evening, when Summit returned to the dormitory, he learned that Nunnally had a fever that day. His 'sister complex' immediately kicked in, and he ran into Nunnally's room, hugged the sleeping Nunnally on the bed, and cried out, "Nunally, ... (omitting 10 words, please refer to the scene in D.Gray-man where Komui is woken up and hugs Lenalee)" Finally, he was dragged out of the room by CC who came upon hearing the noise, with a beating and a thud.
That night, when Lelouch tiptoed back to the apartment, he found Summit waiting for him in the lobby. He sat down next to Summit and asked with a smile, "Brother, aren't you resting yet? How is Nunnally?"
"The fever has gone down, and he just fell asleep. Um... Lelouch," Summit said with a slight smile.
"Huh? What's wrong?" Lelouch asked, puzzled.
“We’ve been together for almost two months now, haven’t we?” Summit said with a hint of seriousness.
“Yes, these days have been the happiest days for Nunnally and me,” Lelouch nodded.
Summit smiled slightly and said, "Really? Me too." Then, looking at Lelouch with a serious expression, he asked, "Lelouch, tell me, are you ZERO?"
Lelouch fell silent for a long while before nodding heavily and saying, "Yes, I am ZERO."
"As expected, it's because of Nunnally or the truth about Mother's murder." Samit gave a bitter smile.
“Both,” Lelouch said in a heavy tone.
"Really? I'll forget about tonight, but you must listen to your brother and don't do anything foolish. I'll help you from the shadows." After Lelouch acknowledged his identity, Summit gave another wry smile, left those words, and turned to leave.
Chapter 342 ZERO's Meeting with Kyoto
The next day, Lelouch packed his bags early and handed the concert tickets Shirley had given him to Summit as he left, saying, "Brother, I'm afraid I won't be able to come back today. Can we proceed as planned?"
“Lelouch, although I said you can ask me for help if you need anything, it wouldn’t be good to impersonate you! Shirley knows us very well and will easily recognize us,” Summit said, looking troubled.
"It's alright, brother, you just need to change your tone of voice," Lelouch said with a slight smile.
“Alright! I’m not responsible for the consequences of this whole thing,” Summit nodded helplessly.
"Yes! I'll take responsibility." Lelouch nodded immediately and promised, then turned and left.
Watching Lelouch's departing figure, Summit once again showed a helpless expression, touching his cut hair and the contact lenses in his hand, muttering to himself, "So you've been eyeing your older brother for a long time."
Summit and Lelouch are twins, a fact known throughout the school. While twin brothers usually have some differences, Summit and Lelouch are strikingly similar, as if they were cast from the same mold. Aside from Summit's darker eyes and a cherry blossom-shaped birthmark on his arm, the only difference between them is a slight difference in height, with Summit being about one centimeter taller. Although they are almost indistinguishable due to their similarities, they are easily differentiated by their hairstyles. Summit's hair is longer than Lelouch's, giving him a slightly effeminate appearance. However, his military bearing compensates for this, otherwise, he wouldn't have the imposing presence of an older brother.
Just as Lelouch and the Black Knights' officers were heading to the meeting point in Kyoto, Britannian soldiers were digging for survivors of the Battle of Narita Mountain under the scorching sun. Although the landslide detonated by the Black Knights had wiped out nearly 1 Britannian soldiers, a few lucky individuals had managed to escape using life support pods within Sunderland. Due to the Britannian army's evacuation order, most of the citizens of Narita City at the foot of the mountain had gone to safety. However, some remained in the city for various reasons. Three days had passed since the battle, and the Britannian army had begun to abandon the search for survivors and instead focus on exhuming the bodies. Suzaku stayed behind as a volunteer to participate in the exhumation work, although using Lancelot for this task felt like using a cannon to kill a mosquito.
"Is it really there? That girl, and..." Suzaku's obsession with excavating the victims' remains stemmed from a desire to confirm if there were any clues about C.C., to understand why C.C. had stopped him from capturing ZERO, and why he had seen his father's phantom. "Forget it, these things aren't recorded in the data." Suzaku poured mineral water over his head to clear his head; now wasn't the time to think about these things. These past few days, Suzaku had been terrified... terrified that when he turned over those stones, he wouldn't find a body waiting for emergency care, but a corpse—a British soldier's, a civilian caught up in the war. Suzaku wasn't afraid of corpses; what he didn't want to see was the agonizing expression on the faces of the deceased's relatives upon seeing their loved ones' bodies.
"Are you satisfied with the excavation of the body?" Lloyd walked over and asked Suzaku with a wicked grin.
"If possible, please let me continue the rescue work for a while longer." Suzaku wanted to persevere.
"Then I'll do as you please. After all, it's an order from Princess Cornelia and Princess Summit," Lloyd said with a smile.
"Mr. Lloyd, what exactly do ZERO and the Black Knights want to do? What can they possibly achieve by making such sacrifices?" Looking at the devastated Narita City, Suzaku felt a surge of anger and asked Lloyd.
Lloyd replied calmly, "Aren't they companions of justice? According to their own words."
Suzaku crushed the water bottle in his hand with a single grip, frowning as he asked, "Is this justice?"
Lloyd immediately laughed and said, "Hey, hey, you're not trying to have a deep discussion about what justice is, are you? That's embarrassing. We're soldiers, you know."
Upon hearing this, Suzaku seemed to remember something, raised his head, and saw Shirley and her mother hurrying past. At that moment, Cecil's voice came: "Completed, energy box replacement."
"Yes." Suzaku hurriedly replied. When he came to his senses and looked back in the direction from which Shirley had come, he could no longer see her. Busy with the excavation work, Suzaku did not pay attention to it and jumped onto Lancelot to continue the excavation.
Looking at Lancelot who was working, Cecil said, "I've checked. That scar on the pureblood mech..."
“It really is that one…” Lloyd said in a matter-of-fact tone.
"Hmm! It's radiation fluctuation."
"I never expected that he would actually assist the enemy, that Lakushata."
Cecil immediately picked up where Lloyd left off, saying, "The enemy pilot is also S-class. With Suzaku's mental state still unstable, if we were to fight that opponent again..."
“Are you saying you can’t win? My Lancelot…” Lloyd muttered in dissatisfaction, then smiled smugly and said, “However, even if Lacusa defeats my Lancelot, it still can’t defeat my Unit-00.”
“Mr. Lloyd, if we’re talking about Unit-00, Summit and I are involved too.” Cecil smiled and squinted as soon as he heard Lloyd refer to Summit’s Unit-00, ‘Fallen Angel,’ as his own.
“Really? I’m sorry.” Lloyd immediately put on a serious expression after seeing Cecil’s smile.
Meanwhile, ZERO and the Black Knights' executives had arrived at the meeting place. Through the floor-to-ceiling windows behind them, Kallen and the others saw the Fuji Mine covered with a layer of steel and whispered among themselves, "This is the Fuji Mine."
"This can't be real, there's no way I'd end up in a place like this..."
"But there can't be any mistake, this mountain, this shape..."
"So, Sakuradite is down there? This is the treasure that sparked the war."
"Any intruders will be killed without exception..."
"Their sphere of influence has expanded to this extent; Kyoto is indeed formidable." Even the usually honest and composed Ougi was astonished by the meeting place arranged by Kyoto. Under these circumstances, only ZERO in the Black Knights could remain calm.
"It's disgusting, isn't it? Mount Fuji, once renowned for its beautiful mountains and clear waters, its verdant peaks and abundant resources, now bows down to the Empire, allowing itself to be constantly humiliated. This is a true reflection of our Japan. How tragic is this?" The glass of the French windows suddenly darkened, and an old voice came from behind the group. Turning around, they saw an old man kneeling behind a chaise longue with hanging curtains.
"I apologize for my rudeness in not revealing my true identity, but you, ZERO, are no different. I must find out who you really are. Let me see your true face." The old man behind the scenes spoke slowly after everyone turned around. As he spoke, he waved his cane, and four fully armed 'rogues' slowly drove over, pointing their guns at the Black Knights.
"Please wait a moment, ZERO has brought us power and victory, and will..." Karen immediately ran in front of ZERO, spreading her arms to protect him.
"Shut up, who ordered the slap?" The old man's authoritative voice silenced Karen and sent chills down the spines of the other members of the Black Knights.
"Ah...yes...that's me!" Fan said with a hint of surprise when her name was called.
"Go and take off ZERO's mask," the old man commanded.
"I'm sorry, ZERO, but I want to believe in you too. So, please let us believe." After a slight hesitation, Fan looked at ZERO and said, placing her hand on ZERO's mask and removing it. To everyone's surprise, under the mask was a woman's face, and a very beautiful one at that—it was CC.
"A woman? How is that possible..." The group members were stunned by the sight before them and said in disbelief.
"Woman over there, are you real?" The old man's voice was also full of surprise.
“Excuse me, I am not ZERO, but the representative of Kyoto, Taizo Tohara.” CC’s reply was tinged with a hint of mockery.
The old man's bodyguard drew a gun from his chest and roared, "We absolutely cannot let anyone who knows the man's secrets live!"
Four 'rogue' assault rifles were all pointed at CC, waiting for the bodyguard leader's order to shoot him down. Suddenly, one of the rogues on the right fired a slashing scythe, knocking down the weapons of two other rogues on the opposite side. Then, it raised its left arm, ejected a fighting blade, slashed at the rogue assault rifle, and quickly rushed in front of Tōhara Taizō, pointing the assault rifle at him.
"Too weak, and their methods and ideas are outdated." The real ZERO—Lelouch—sneered through the rogue's loudspeaker. Then, he opened the cockpit and stood up, saying to Taizo Tohara, "That's why you can't win."
"Lulu, I'm sorry, something came up and I kept you waiting," Shirley, wearing a beige lace-trimmed dress, said happily, waving to Summit standing outside the theater.
"It's alright, Shirley, hurry inside, it's going to rain," Summit, disguised as Lelouch, immediately forced a smile and said.
"Lulu, aren't you going to ask me why I'm late?" Shirley quickly walked to Summit's side, walked alongside him, put her hands behind her back, pouted, and looked at Summit, asking...
“Because Shirley has a ** too, right? Hurry up, the concert has already started!” Summit said immediately with a smile, taking Shirley’s little hand and walking forward.
“Lulu…” Shirley’s face flushed red because of Sammit’s actions.
After Summit and Shirley found their seats, Summit secretly breathed a sigh of relief, thinking, 'Finally in! Now I just need to listen to the concert quietly and nothing will happen.' While Summit was relaxing, Shirley realized how out of place she and 'Lelouch' were at the concert. Most of the people around them were middle-aged men and women; there were almost no people under twenty. She also began to worry whether 'Lelouch' would enjoy this kind of classical music concert, which some people found boring and tedious. Should she seize the opportunity to confess her feelings?
After taking a deep breath, Shirley mustered her courage and looked at 'Lelouch' beside her, saying, "Um...Lelouch, I..." The words 'I' had barely left her lips when the lights in the hall suddenly dimmed. Shirley felt a warm, large hand grasp hers, and her unease vanished instantly. Then, she heard 'Lelouch's' caring voice say, "The concert is starting." A soft piano melody then began to play.
"Lelouch, it can't be Zero's...it can't be..." Looking at Lelouch's focused expression, Shirley felt a sweet warmth in her heart, silently thinking...
Because of Summit's presence, Shirley's father didn't die, only suffered minor injuries, so that scene didn't appear in the anime. However, the rest of the plot remained almost unchanged; Lelouch's identity was still suspected by Violetta, who wanted to use Shirley's connection to monitor him.
The concert ended, and a light rain began to fall outside, veiling the sky in darkness. Shirley seemed oblivious to this, her courage seemingly emboldened. She even took 'Lelouch's' arm and walked out of the venue with him, her face radiating ecstasy. Summit, realizing she mistook him for Lelouch, looked uncomfortable and quickly changed the subject, saying, "Shirley, I didn't bring an umbrella, what should we do? Shirley… Shirley… did you hear me?"
"Ah... I'm sorry, Lelouch, this... what should we do?" Coming to her senses, Shirley looked at the drizzling rain outside, then at Lelouch, and said shyly.
Summit looked at Shirley's blushing face, smiled slightly, and said, "Oh well... isn't this romantic enough?" He then took off his casual jacket and draped it over their heads.
When "Lulu" saw the black coat covering her head, Xia Li's face immediately flushed.
Just then, a ringtone sounded, and Summit hurriedly opened his phone. The real Lelouch's deliberately altered voice came through: "Lelouch, where are you right now?"
"Lelouch? Ah... um, I'm with Shirley, is there something you need, brother?" Samit asked, though puzzled, but quickly realized what was going on and answered accordingly.
"Where are you?"
"Outside the concert hall, the concert just ended. I need to take Shirley home. We'll talk later. Goodbye." Summit didn't want to call Lelouch "brother" a few more times, so he hurriedly hung up the phone.
...Girls' dormitory entrance
Mireille looked at Summit, who was soaking wet, and Shirley, who was completely dry, with a meaningful smile on her face. She stared at them with a look that said, "There's something wrong with you two." Summit, who was disguised as Lelouch, couldn't help but ask, "President, why are you here?"
Mirei smiled slightly, took out a notebook from behind her back, flipped through it a few times, and said, "As the student council president, it's my duty to care for the junior students who go out at night."
"President, it's hard for me to believe you don't have ulterior motives," Summit said with a slight smile, looking at Mirei who was writing something with a pen.
"Lelouch, what did you say? Say it again!" Mireille, upon hearing this, picked up the thick notebook and stared at Lelouch's neck.
"President, if you keep treating me like this, be careful... my brother won't marry you!" Samit almost let slip after being hit by Mirei.
"Hehe... If your brother won't marry me, I'll make you marry me instead. Anyway, you two look exactly alike, it doesn't matter," Mirei said with a laugh. Then, as if remembering something, she stared at Summit for a moment before saying, "Lelouch, why are you a little taller? Are you Summit?"
"President, what are you saying?" Hearing Millie's erratic remarks, Shirley quickly grabbed Summit's arm and said...
"Yes, President, are you seeing things? How could I be the older brother?" Summit felt a chill run down his spine, and with his clothes already soaked through, he couldn't help but shiver. He forced a smile and said...
“Oh…is that so?” Millie said in a strange tone, but she stared at Summit with a 'you have a problem' look.
Summit quickly pretended not to see anything and said to Shirley with a smile, "Shirley, I'm going back now. My brother and Nanali are waiting for me. See you tomorrow."
"Goodbye, Lulu, here, take this," Shirley said hurriedly, taking a pink umbrella from a basket in front of the dormitory and handing it to Summit.
Thank you, Shirley.
After saying goodbye to Shirley, Summit immediately turned around, wanting to leave this troublesome place as soon as possible. "Stop!" Millie suddenly said.
"President!" Shirley couldn't help but call out. After all, Summit's clothes were soaked through, and if he didn't go back to change, Lelouch, with his weak constitution, would easily fall ill.
"Okay, okay, Lelouch. Tell your brother to be careful lately," Mireille said, clasping her hands together in an apologetic gesture as she looked at Shirley, whose eyes were full of reproach. Then, she raised her fist at Summit, her words carrying a hidden meaning.
"How scary, President! I'll definitely tell my brother." Samit looked at Mirei raising her fist and a few black lines appeared on his forehead as he spoke with a smile.
Chapter 343 Samit Who Wants to Die
The day after Summit impersonated Lelouch and Shirley to attend the concert, in the student council office, Summit, with a clearly impatient expression on his face, asked Milly, who was staring at him, "President Milly, why are you staring at me like that? Is there something strange about me?"
“Because I wanted to know if your hair was a wig.” A sly glint flashed in Mireille’s eyes as she looked at Summit, whose hair had returned to normal.
"A wig? Why would I wear a wig for no reason?" Summit asked with an intrigued smile, pulling at a tuft of hair on his forehead. Seeing this, Millie immediately stood up, walked over to him, grabbed his hair, and pulled it upwards forcefully.
