"I need to go back and take a shower!" Daphne exclaimed, her face full of disgust. "I smell like dirt and fertilizer!"
Praris took a couple of steps and finally caught up with Milison.
"Millie, we need to talk. I think there's some misunderstanding between us. Maybe I've made a mistake, and you can tell me directly. Even if I don't necessarily change or accept it, even if you really want to sentence me to death, you have to tell me the reasons, right?"
Pansy nudged Daphne with an incredulous look on her face: "I'm starting to wonder what I'm jealous of about her. Is this an apology?"
“Praris doesn’t think she’s done anything wrong, does she? She just wants to know why Milison is angry,” Daphne shrugged.
Milison almost laughed in anger: "Look, of course there's nothing wrong with us being number one, the mistake is mine!"
"It doesn't matter who's wrong. Maybe we're both wrong, maybe we're both right. The point is, why? You've known me for a long time, haven't you? You know very well what kind of person I have always been. I don't think this is a reason for us to argue."
In fact, Prarese felt that Millison understood her better than anyone else, both in terms of her abilities and her attitude towards things.
"Don't you know everything? Then how come you don't know what I'm thinking!" Milison said, then sped off.
Praris stood there, bewildered.
Not only is Pansy's love life complicated, but Millison's friendships are also complicated. Prarese felt that even getting her to prepare a bottle of Felix Felicis wouldn't be more complicated than this.
Prarese did not return to the Slytherin common room; she thought Millison didn't want to see her for the time being.
Ms. Sprout was slightly injured while treating the spitting willow, so much so that she could not move among the flowers and plants as nimbly as usual.
Prarese then took on some of her work.
"Friendship? That's a very difficult question," Ms. Sprout said. "I don't think everyone can accept the gap between themselves and their friends."
“But Millie and I have always been the same; nothing much has changed between us,” Praris said, loosening the soil around the herbs with a shovel.
“Yes, that’s true. But Miss Burst is very concerned about her mother, isn’t she? You said she often argues with her mother, and they had a disagreement over grades during the summer vacation,” Ms. Sprout said calmly.
Praris blinked rapidly, recalling Milison's words: "So, Milison might have developed some distance from me because of her mother. Or perhaps, she doesn't actually hate me, but is just suffering because she can't meet her mother's demands."
Praliss is a very prominent person in Slytherin, which means that those around her are overshadowed by her aura, even though this is not her intention.
Ms. Sprout put her arm around her shoulder: “When we’re young, we don’t have a stable understanding of ourselves, we don’t have enough ability, and we can’t find our direction. That’s normal. Give your friendship some time.”
Praris nodded firmly: "I understand."
The next morning's classes were Transfiguration and Charms, and Professor McGonagall asked them to turn the beetle into a button.
Professor McGonagall's curriculum design is very progressive; they started by transforming still life into living objects, and now they're transforming living objects into still life.
But beetles aren't like needles that wait for you to cast spells.
Pansy's Transfiguration spell kept missing; the beetle would move whenever she moved, which infuriated her.
"Am I supposed to learn a spell that will immobilize beetles first?!" Pansy said through gritted teeth.
Malfoy said smugly, "Watch closely, you have to cast the spell very quickly, like this! Or wait in the direction the beetle will move before casting the spell."
"Draco, you're amazing!" Pansy turned to look at Praris. "Huh? Prince, why haven't you succeeded yet!"
Pansy swore she wasn't being sarcastic; she was genuinely surprised.
Who could imagine that Prarese would be slower than others in learning anything?
Praris was playing with the beetle while propping herself up on her arm. Only after hearing Pansy's words did she slowly raise her wand and point it at the beetle.
As expected, the beetle ran away, and Praris's transformation spell missed.
“Prince, has Brown’s housework magic ruined your brain?” Malfoy frowned, his face full of disgust.
Praris glared at him and pointed at the beetle again, which immediately transformed into a magnificent emerald butterfly cufflink.
Although Ms. Sprout pointed out the reason for Millison's tantrum, Prareas still couldn't figure out how to resolve their problem.
If she left it alone, she feared Millison would continue to dislike her. But if she decided to deal with it, she was even more unsure of what to do.
Does she want Milison to become like her? But that would be difficult for Milison, wouldn't it? Perhaps she should teach Milison to build a memory palace in her mind, so she can retrieve whatever she needs?
But Milison often forgets what he ate for his last meal as soon as he turns his head.
Perhaps she should bring herself down to Millison's level, so Millison wouldn't feel unbalanced. But doing so would seem to be looking down on Millison, and she wouldn't be able to be herself anymore.
In any relationship, whether it's friendship or love, once there's sacrifice involved, it becomes unbalanced.
She can't keep pretending to be stupid, and Millison can't become smarter.
In his distress, Praris even miscast the Transfiguration Charm.
Millison couldn't deny her own inferiority complex. If you had a friend like Praris Prince, you would know what it feels like to stand next to a radiant person.
She thought Ron Weasley must feel the same way she did.
From the moment she boarded the Hogwarts Express, Millison knew that Pradernes would be an extraordinary witch. Who else could possess such talent? Dumbledore? Or Voldemort?
Milison wasn't initially envious of Praris; the girl was pale and thin, looking like a little vampire.
Millison herself is healthy and strong. Prarese once said that she really wished she were like that.
But Mrs. Burstow didn't think so.
Death Eaters often have strange desires: some crave wealth and glory, some crave power, some crave a high status, and some simply seek self-preservation.
Mrs. Burstow craved immense power. Despite her limited talents, she hoped the Mystic would grant her power, even though she was no match for him.
Millison's aunt said that when the mysterious man was gone, Mrs. Burst was as if her husband had died.
So Mrs. Burst pinned her hopes on her daughter Millison.
Before Milison showed any signs of magic at the age of eight, Mrs. Burst began to go mad, even throwing her off the attic.
Fortunately, Millison wasn't a Squib, otherwise Mrs. Burst would have been even less rational than a werewolf.
Milison was indeed not a Squib, but her magical talent was rather unremarkable. She learned her first spell several weeks later than others.
Yes, it's the Levitation Spell.
Praris was the complete opposite of her. Milison had almost never seen her fail to learn anything immediately, nor had she ever failed to remember anything, except for flying brooms.
Milison was simply amazed at that moment. Merlin, the difference between people is greater than the difference between people and trolls.
Of course, Professor Snape admired her, although he never praised Prass in public. But who else was qualified to be Professor Snape's assistant?
Adults think differently than children think.
Mrs. Burst was initially happy that Millison was on vacation, since she hadn't seen her daughter in a long time.
But this excitement didn't last long; soon she reached out to Millison for her report card.
After looking at the report card, Burst smashed a teapot and two cups, then covered his face and wallowed in self-pity.
"How could my daughter be as foolish as you!"
"If I hadn't given birth to you, I wouldn't be who I am today; I would still be a free witch."
"Mom has sacrificed so much!"
"Is it that hard? Others can achieve 7 Os and 1 E, what are you doing every day? Does everything you eat just turn into your own body?!"
Millison stood there, letting Mrs. Burstd throw all sorts of things at her and at her feet.
One day, Mrs. Burstde stopped crying and sat on the leather sofa. She asked Millison, "I heard you're on good terms with that Prince? Prince, Malfoy, you should have gotten closer to people like him a long time ago. Let them teach you how to use magic instead of just eating all day."
"When Mom was young, she only briefly followed that man, and he taught me many things I never dared to imagine. You should also learn to get closer to the people you should get closer to, instead of having an empty mind every day."
Milison felt nauseous; she felt disgusted, as if her stomach was churning.
Put Pray and the Mystic together?
Milison felt nauseous just thinking about it.
Mrs. Burst urged her to write to Praris, but she hesitated for a long time, not knowing what to write, so she just wrote some useless words: I can't finish my homework, so annoying.
She thought everything would get better once school started, and she eagerly anticipated that.
But she found she could no longer do it.
When she first saw Praris, all she could think of were the bloody reports about the Mysterious Man and Mrs. Burst's twisted face.
"I suppose I'm the only Slytherin who hates Mystic," Millison thought.
Mrs. Burst wanted her to befriend Praris, but Millison simply couldn't do it.
In Milison's eyes, Prarese was a very good person. When Milison wanted to lose weight, Prarese complimented her muscles. While almost all Slytherins were at odds with Gryffindor, Milison didn't see her bullying anyone.
I'm already a terrible person, how can I drag Prarese down with me? She deserves better friends, not someone like me who's only befriending her because my mother orders me to.
When Prareth expressed her dislike for Lockhart, Milison knew her opportunity had arrived. Many witches liked Lockhart, although Milison herself felt nothing for her teacher.
But that's a good reason, isn't it?
Milison blurted out those words.
After she finished speaking, she realized with a start that she was still jealous of Praris.
Well, now that she's said what was on her mind, Praris is even less likely to believe it's fake. Let's just assume she really did break off the friendship with Praris out of jealousy!
"Prince, has Brown's housework magic ruined your brain?"
Milison froze upon hearing Malfoy's words.
Will Prader Prince fail? Will she still not learn to turn a beetle into a button after all this time?
Milison didn't believe it, and nobody could believe it!
Her mind was in turmoil, like a ghoul banging on the floor inside her.
"She's like this because of you!" a sharp voice screamed in Milison's mind.
Millison recognized it as Mrs. Burst's voice.
Mrs. Burst cried out in her heart, "It's you! You've disrupted her thoughts and affected her mind!"
Another Mrs. Burst thought to herself, "It's you! You're jealous of her, so she's afraid to be as fierce as before because of your friendship!"
"You're despicable! You're incompetent yourself, yet you drag others down with you!"
"You're shameless! You have no talent yourself and you're hindering others from succeeding!"
Amidst these sharp voices, Milison heard her own: "Milison, you're worried about her, aren't you? What does it matter what Mom says? You didn't become friends because of Mom!"
------
Praris glanced at her schedule. There was a Defense Against the Dark Arts class at 3 p.m., so she could eat first, take a nap, and then go to class.
