Everyone present, including Snape and Draco, was forcefully driven away by Madam Pomfrey; no one was able to stay.
Once everyone had left, Barron finally looked up from the medical records in his hand. He moved his lips, finally managing to utter, "Thank you, ma'am..."
“There will be no next time,” Mrs. Pomfrey warned. “Therapists need to be honest!”
Seeing Barron's uneasy expression, Mrs. Pomfrey added, "It also requires a kind and righteous heart, provided that it does not harm the patient."
Chapter 262 Double the Pain
Barron nodded emphatically.
Mrs. Pomfrey, however, did not stop there, thinking that it was enough that Barron had taken it to heart. She said seriously and earnestly, "In our future careers, we will always have to make choices between the basic sense of justice in our hearts and professional ethics."
"Whether or not to lie for the sake of justice is the simplest test. What if we need to treat a Death Eater with blood on his hands? A criminal with a criminal record that would put him in Azkaban? Our enemy?"
“Child, you need to understand one thing. We are healers, not Aurors, not judges, and certainly not the swordsmen of justice.”
Pomfrey had known all along that Baron was going to join DA.
Driven by a strong sense of justice, she couldn't help but side with the Order of the Phoenix and the DA. However, as a therapist, she had to maintain objectivity and neutrality, preserving the integrity of the school clinic and refusing to turn the hospital into a battleground for both sides.
Faced with Barron's underhanded tactics in Prares's medical records, Mrs. Pomfrey ultimately chose to cover it up for him, responding to the Death Eaters' inquiries according to his own version of events.
However, the professional therapist also gave Barron a serious warning afterward, saying that there should never be a next time and promptly taught him the professional ethics that a therapist should have.
Barron looked ashamed and said solemnly, "Madam, I understand what you mean. No matter what happens, as long as I'm in the school infirmary, my role is that of a therapist, nothing more."
There are no second chances in this world, and Barron wouldn't consider whether he would make the same choice again. He only knew that this was the first and the last time.
Seeing that Barron had taken her words to heart, Mrs. Pomfrey reached out her large, calloused hand and patted Barron's head gently, saying softly, "Go on, we have a lot of work to do."
Mrs. Pomfrey watched her young nurse walk quickly away, her gaze loving and gratified.
Barron is a promising talent; he has ideals, is gifted, and is hardworking enough.
Mrs. Pomfrey was glad that such a mistake happened to someone close to her, allowing her to educate Barron in time and prevent the boy from going down the wrong path and prematurely ending his career as a therapist.
Barron, carrying the medical records, made his rounds around the beds before finally returning to Prareas's side. He drew the curtains around Prareas's bed before turning back to look at the bed.
On the hospital bed, Praris opened her eyes, looked at him calmly, and said almost silently, "Thank you."
Baron waved his hand, indicating that he was welcome.
“Praris,” he asked in a whisper, “how are you feeling?”
"It hurts and itches so much, I want to scratch myself to death," Praris said expressionlessly. "Give me some rosemary or lemon balm to chew on."
“You’re not scratching anymore!” Barron said, trying to keep his voice down. “The medical report just now was a bit exaggerated, but most of it is true. You don’t have a fracture, but you have a crack. The fact that you’re starting to feel itchy means your wound is healing, and scratching will leave a scar!”
"Then you should just pass out too," Praris said, her calm expression cracking. "If you're going to faint, you don't have to hold it in."
“No!” Baron refused her again. “You are too weak to fall asleep like this! Just hold on, you’ll fall asleep soon. I’ll get you some burn ointment and bone-healing cream in a bit.”
No way! Praris wailed inwardly. Did she not know the effects of these two drugs? Each one made her feel worse than the last!
"Then give me some dreamless sleeping potion," Praris said professionally. "Don't try to fool me, the school infirmary has some in stock."
The most difficult patients in the world fall into two categories: those who are completely ignorant and unreasonable, and those who are knowledgeable and still unreasonable.
Praris is the latter.
Baron straightened up and muttered, "Merlin, there are still so many patients to see..."
He muttered to himself, then walked straight to the next bed where a patient was lying, leaving Praris alone on the bed, watching in astonishment as he slipped away.
Barron! Our shy little brother! You've changed!
Praris closed her eyes sadly, awaiting the "torture" with despair. To distract herself from the pain, she closed her eyes and reviewed the entire plan.
As planned, she created the improved euphoria potion and is currently working on the antidote.
Neville and Ginny, disguised as the Carol siblings, used the Polyjuice Potion she brought to "trick" her into opening the door to the abandoned classroom herself.
Therefore, it's understandable that he, focused on his potion research, failed to guard against his own people. Most of the blame will fall on the Carlo siblings for not taking better care of their hair.
Normally, Neville and Ginny combined might not be able to defeat Praris, and they would most likely get bogged down in a prolonged fight. Therefore, Praris must devise a way for them to finish him off quickly and with high damage.
Finally, Prareas came up with a Muggle solution—sodium metal. There was a large piece of sodium metal in the ore box she gave to Draco.
First, it is quite large, highly pure, and weighs a sufficient amount. Second, the crucible is a relatively closed and small container, preventing hydrogen from diffusing quickly and causing it to accumulate locally. Third, the crucible where the solvent is being prepared is at a sufficiently high temperature, and it also contains a high-temperature liquid. Fourth, the sodium block has oxide impurities on its surface, which can accelerate the reaction.
If the sodium block can be accurately dropped into the crucible, it can create an explosion that causes damage that even the Iron Mantle cannot completely withstand.
Prareas initially expected Ginny to throw the sodium nuggets; she was a Quidditch player and an expert at aerial shots. When he saw Neville throwing the nuggets, Prareas's heart skipped a beat.
Fortunately, with a thud, the sodium block narrowly escaped falling into the crucible, causing a powerful explosion.
Praris immediately adjusted her posture to ensure her hands would be blown off, in order to prevent Voldemort from demanding that she continue her research.
But she had no intention of truly crippling herself! Despite the Ironclad Curse stunning the damage, the table and cauldron were charred black, yet Praris didn't even lose consciousness and required Astoria to finish her off. And her hands weren't beyond repair either.
At this crucial moment, Baron's lies and exaggerations played a vital role in convincing the Carlos siblings that Prares' injuries were serious.
Baron lifted the curtain again, holding an iron tray with medicine for Praris on it.
Burn ointment is a dark green, viscous paste with a pungent odor, packaged in a dark red bottle shaped like a charcoal snake egg. When applied to a wound, it creates a stinging and burning sensation, just as unpleasant as being burned.
Bone-Generating Elixir evolved from an invention by Lynfred, an ancestor of the Potter family. It comes in a large bottle with a skull-shaped cap and a rib-shaped body, and it smokes when poured out, and feels like your throat is burning when you drink it.
This is a cruel medicine, cruel because it heals very slowly. It takes at least 8 hours for new bone to grow and at least 4 hours to heal a fracture.
"I can't drink this right now!" Praris refused firmly. "I'm still 'unconscious'!"
Applying burn ointment to an unconscious person is fine. But if she were to drink some kind of bone-strengthening medicine, that would be illogical—because an unconscious person cannot swallow on their own.
Given Prares's history of needing painkillers, Baron said suspiciously in a low voice, "You're not trying to avoid taking your medication, are you?"
Praris endured the pain and itching, forcing a bitter smile as he said, "How interesting, does running away mean you won't drink it?"
“That won’t do,” Barron replied instantly.
Barron applied a thick layer of dark green burn ointment to Praris's hands, and the intense stinging and burning sensation made Praris's hands tremble.
How can I describe this feeling?
It's roughly similar to the tremor that occurs when the body suddenly jerks unexpectedly in a half-dreaming, half-awake state, which cannot be controlled by willpower.
Barron's eyes revealed an unusually clear admiration: "You are the patient with the least reaction after applying this burn ointment."
Nearly three years ago, during the final three-way tournament, several of the contestants also suffered burns. Even Cedric broke out in a cold sweat and gasped for breath while applying burn ointment.
It's as if she can make a sound; wouldn't that ruin everything?
Praris silently closed her eyes, bearing the pain alone. Logically, she should try not to fall asleep at this moment, as falling asleep might cause her to unconsciously scratch the wound, resulting in further injury.
However, after experiencing high-intensity work, orchestrating her own beatings, and the exhaustion caused by her injuries, she was mentally exhausted and physically craved sleep.
It would be better to be unconscious! Praris couldn't help but think, at least when I'm unconscious my hands are more obedient than when I'm asleep.
After suffering through several hours of this, the effects of the burn ointment began to wear off, and the stinging, burning, and itching sensations gradually subsided. Finally, exhausted, Praris fell asleep.
In a half-dreaming, half-awake state, Praris vaguely sensed that several groups of people had come to her bedside and then left.
What you think about during the day, you dream about at night.
Praris dreamed that the sky was on fire, the earth was on fire, she herself was on fire, and everything was on fire.
How could this be? This is just too strange!
Praris frowned in thought and finally came to a conclusion: so the northern part of this place is hell!
She slept straight through until noon the next day, which, to some extent, greatly increased the authenticity of Barron's medical records.
“Pry!” Pansy’s face was streaked with tears, her words rapid and intense, like a pea pod bursting open. “You’re finally awake! How are you feeling? Can you see me? Does anything hurt? Baron! Baron—damn Gryffindor! I was terrified! Quick, quick, get Pry checked out! Draco, are you dead? Don’t you even care about Pry?!”
Pansy was talking so much that Praris was getting dizzy listening to her.
Baron first fed Praris the Bone Spirit, casually reminding her of the precautions. Baron didn't actually need to say much to Praris, but to maintain the facade, he said everything that needed to be said.
If only I could have drunk Sheng Gu Ling last night, Praris thought to himself, "I would have been so happy, and I wouldn't have had to suffer this pain twice."
"Cough cough! Cough cough!"
Praris began to vow in his heart again that he would improve Bone Spirit, at least to make it less awful to drink!
“Pan…cough cough cough…Pansy, I’m alright.” Praris asked between coughs, “What happened? How could Professor Carlo…”
“That wasn’t Professor Carlow! It was Longbottom in disguise!” Pansy said angrily. “He ambushed you by impersonating Professor Amicus Carlow! Professor Alecto and everyone in Slytherin cornered him at the kitchen door and have caught him!”
“What a pity—” Daphne said slowly, “that we couldn’t catch the student who was impersonating Professor Alecto Caro.”
Pansy's emotions were written all over her face, and without thinking, she blurted out, "It must be that Weasley girl!"
“There’s no evidence, is there?” Daphne toyed with the end of her hair, her tone nonchalant. “She’s a pureblood, and she wasn’t caught red-handed, so what can anyone do to her?”
"And what about courage and solidarity!" Pansy sneered in a shrill voice. "Abandoning your comrades and running away alone, leaving Longbottom to take all the blame!"
"Ahem, Longbottom's been caught?" Prarese asked in a hoarse voice. "How will Professor Snape punish him?"
Praris expected that the two of them should have been able to escape...
“It’s all thanks to Leah,” Daphne said with a smile, a hint of pride in her voice. “She used the Curse of the End to break the Weasley’s spell…”
Praris suddenly felt a terrible headache!
She suddenly understood Professor Snape's feelings when Harry was causing trouble everywhere with the Disarming Charm—why did I have to be so meddlesome and teach this kid so many spells!
“Thank you so much, Lydia,” Praris said weakly.
Daphne hummed twice, indicating that she accepted it on behalf of her sister.
Pansy then launched into a long explanation of Neville's situation: "I heard that Professor Carlow gave Longbottom a whole bottle of Truth Potion. Longbottom insists that he hated you for using the Cruciatus Curse on him in class, so he impersonated Amicus Carlow to get revenge on you!"
Who did Alecto learn from? Umbridge?! You don't know the value of money until you're in charge; that was a whole bottle of truth serum!
"As for that explosion, Longbottom couldn't explain what it was either, only saying it was some high-end stuff he bought from Knockturn Alley." Pansy gritted her teeth in anger. "He didn't even know what it was before he dared to use it on you! What if that thing had killed you!"
“You really woke up too late and missed the show,” Daphne continued, picking up where Pansy left off. “Professor Snape tied Longbottom up like a mummy and laid him out in the hallway, making him stand like a statue for hours on end.”
"The professor even talked about Longbottom's parents in public!" Pansy said gleefully. "Longbottom's parents were driven insane by the Cruciatus Curse. No wonder he hates you so much and is so determined to take revenge on you!"

Listening to his good friends' back-and-forth conversation, Praris felt a mix of emotions.
