So when she stood in front of Boggart, Boggart turned into a pitted, silvery-white sphere.
Professor Lupin's expression turned to surprise. He looked at the sphere, then at Praris, as if he had seen something unbelievable.
Praris arrogantly raised his wand and said slowly, "Hilarious, hilarious."
The moon fell down and shattered into pieces of white sugar on the ground.
Praris snorted to himself, "What's wrong with white sugar? White sugar is especially good. Eating sugar in the monastery is a happy thing."
"What's that?" Milison, always so curious, asked. "Can I ask?"
Praris put his arm around Milison, turned around happily and walked back, no: "It's a secret, darling, it's a secret."
She achieved her goal; at least she really scared the man.
She somewhat understood Draco's feelings toward Potter, and when she saw Mr. Lupin's undisguised astonishment, she genuinely felt a sense of satisfaction.
When she returned to the group, Draco pushed his way through the crowd with one hand and came over: "I'm sure you did something 'good,' but you didn't even tell me!"
Normally, Praris would have asked in confusion: Why should I tell you?
But considering that he had helped him, Praris smiled brightly, a rare occurrence for him: "Oh, thank you for your help, Draco! I'm so glad!"
Draco paused, his gaze darting around without settling on anything, before finally muttering, "This can speak human language..."
"what?"
Praris had already turned and was whispering something to Milison when she heard Draco's voice and turned back to ask.
"I said it's time to go to my herbalism class!"
"Why are you shouting so loudly? Do I have a hearing impairment?!"
That night, Pralis checked her schedule in the Slytherin common room; she had Divination, Herbalism, History of Magic, and Charms classes on Fridays.
Yes, major classes like Herbalism, Potions, Charms, Transfiguration, and Defense Against the Dark Arts are usually taught more than once a week.
Speaking of which, she had taken a divination class, and she was actually quite interested in the occult. Humans seem to be forever fascinated by such ethereal subjects, yearning to find certainty within uncertainty.
Divination encompasses a wide range of methods, including crystal balls, tea stalks, palmistry, tarot, astrology, and more, forming a rich and extensive system. In addition to current divination methods, Trelawney also expanded upon their predecessors.
For example, the divination method of tea leaves originated from wax casting. Wax casting, also known as dripping wax divination, involves a shaman dripping melted wax into water and interpreting fate based on the shape of the wax as it solidifies.
Oh, by the way, Trelawney is their divination professor, and when Prarese first saw her, she thought she looked like a firefly.
A divination professor, a firefly—what a fitting combination. A diviner is like a firefly; they illuminate the way forward in the darkness, don't they?
Mysticism is fascinating, but Trelawney said with a look of regret in the first lesson, "I'm so sad, my dear... I saw your mind, how cruel it is that it hasn't opened a door to the mystical."
The Slytherins present were astonished; they had never seen any teacher so certain that Prader would do something wrong.
Prarese guessed that Trelawney might mean that Prarese's brain was interested in, could understand and use the mystical, but her mind was unable to open up to them.
Mysticism emphasizes spirituality, something that can only be encountered by chance and cannot be sought.
However, in the divination system of wizards, spirituality alone is far from enough; mystery is a two-way choice. Mystery can extend an invitation to you, or you can refuse.
Praris once submitted an assignment, diligently performing divination based on the instructions in the book and the teaching in class.
Trelawney, looking rather dazed, uttered a string of regretful words after receiving the assignment. She'd thought Trelawney was going to give her a P, but the eccentric witch unexpectedly gave her an O.
"I am so sorry, so very sorry... My dear, you have wasted your talent. You didn't believe in what you wrote, yet you still wrote it. How cruel you are to these words!"
Chapter 48 Soft Love
Despite her presence being a torment for Trelawney, Prarese did not intend to give up the Divination class, but instead placed the Magical Creatures Protection class as the second course she had dropped.
She was interested enough in divination, while Hagrid had gone to the other extreme, having his students raise florid caterpillars all the time, a creature he found extremely boring.
Damn it, if she remembers correctly, there's XX between X and XXX, right? Bowtruckle, what do you have to say?
“Prince, good evening. Are you doing your homework? Do you have time later?” It was Terence Higgs, the new prefect.
This guy is really rule-abiding; he even lets you know beforehand when he's looking for someone.
Faced with such a person, Praris felt embarrassed to remain seated and quickly stood up: "Higgs, is there something you need from me?"
“It’s Professor Snape. He’s waiting for you in his office,” Higgs said with a polite smile.
Praris couldn't help but recall Marcus's words: "I simply cannot understand! How could Professor Snape have chosen Terence as a prefect?!"
I don't understand it either! Praris thought empathetically, this is a Slytherin prefect.
Normally, Professor Snape wouldn't contact her through others, except for that conversation with her in her first year. But this year was different; since the start of the school year, she hadn't gone to the office to help out, except for handing in her summer homework once.
Could it be because of Remus Lupin?
But he didn't look scared at the time; he was just a little surprised.
So you're tattling? That's not appropriate, is it?
Praliss made her way to the Potions Office with practiced ease and knocked on the oak door. Just as she opened it, Professor Snape was putting a cap into the mouth of a potion bottle.
Professor Snape slowly placed the vial on the shelf and said, “Miss Prarese, I have a small question. I think you won’t refuse to satisfy my curiosity.”
“It is my honor, Professor,” Praris replied without hesitation.
Professor Snape's speech suddenly quickened: "I've heard some rumors about the Boggarts, and of course, I'm not talking about me—you know what I want to ask, right?"
Praris didn't know, so he shook his head sincerely.
“What is your Boggart? Tell me, miss,” Professor Snape said coldly.
Praris paused, not expecting Remus Lupin to actually complain. She moved her lips, then sighed, "I'm sorry, Professor, I admit my mistake."
"Admit your mistake?" Professor Snape's cold expression stiffened for a second.
Praris said matter-of-factly, “Oh yes, I admit my mistake. You know, I didn’t want to lie to you. I shouldn’t have frightened Professor Lupin, but he went too far and disrespected you, and I think he deserved it. If you want to punish me, do whatever you want.”
Professor Snape fell silent for a moment, his expression complex. After a long pause, he said, "So, Miss, your Boggart isn't the moon, is it?"
“Of course not, well, I mean, I don’t think so. But I haven’t seen my Boggart either,” Praris said.
Professor Snape regained his composure and asked, "How did you find out?"
"Wolfsbane Potion, Professor. By the way, can I learn this?"
Prarese's expression showed no fear, only a thirst for knowledge. She knew the professor would never punish her.
When Prarese was kicked out of the office again, she was carrying a huge pile of information about the Damocles' Wolfsbane Potion.
Prarese felt that this year's professors were particularly irritable; this was the second time she had been kicked out of their offices since the end of last semester.
“Miss, you can’t always expect me to tell you what to do and what not to do. Do you think I’ll be your mentor for life? Come on, you can’t follow in my footsteps forever. Sooner or later you have to think for yourself and not rely on anyone.”
Then he pulled the documents from his desk, threw them at her, and told her to get lost as soon as possible.
Praris glanced at it briefly and immediately felt an itch on his head, as if his brain was about to grow. No wonder wolfsbane medicine is so expensive; you get what you pay for.
Professor Snape tossed these materials to her, making it clear that he didn't want to teach, or didn't have time to teach, much less time to mentor students. So he gave the materials to her to figure out on her own.
At this stage, Prasris is highly unlikely to be able to research and develop the Wolfsbane Potion on her own. However, in many ways, these materials are excellent learning resources, helping her learn how a Potions Master (Snape himself) selects materials, how to analyze the research and development process of another Potions Master (Damocles), and so on.
Oh, and there's another function: to help Professor Snape get rid of his unfortunate students, to stop them from hanging around in front of him and causing him trouble—there's already enough trouble for him!
On the other side, Lupin asked with concern, "That child...?"
Snape scoffed. "Very well, Lupin. She's my student. Do you think she'd get into trouble under my nose? Here's my advice: take care of yourself first before you let your sympathy run wild!"
Snape could hardly recall the moment when Lupin told him that Prairie's Boggart was the moon.
Lupin was rather impatient at the time, which was unusual.
“I was surprised at first. I thought she had discovered my secret, and if she told anyone, it would cause trouble for Dumbledore. Neither of us wanted that to happen.”
"Then it dawned on me that the Boggart is a mirror, reflecting the fears within people's hearts. I'm very worried about that child. Perhaps you don't know, but my Boggart is the moon, because—you know that. Even though she seems perfectly healthy..."
Snape knew this, of course, because Lupin was a werewolf who suffered the torment of transforming every full moon.
He initially disliked Praris, believing her birth was a mistake, the result of her foolish mother's latest madness. As it turned out, he was right; the woman's naiveté ruined herself and her child.
Even more ridiculous, the woman completed her revenge, successfully landing herself in prison. And then? She abandoned a witch's child at a convent!
When Snape heard about it, he almost burst out laughing. A witch's child, dumped at a monastery! What's in her head? Water?! Would it even make a gurgling sound if you shook it?!
In the Middle Ages, she would have practically thrown her child into the fire, in a physical sense.
But sometimes things just don't go his way. One day, as if under a spell, he walked to the monastery and saw the thin, bony "little nun" in a black smock distributing relief food.
The old nun called her "Prince".
"She's not your responsibility!" Snape once warned himself.
"People with the surname Prince are all crazy!" Snape once warned himself.
No matter how much he warned himself, it was no use; he still wrote his first letter, which he signed "the Half-Blood Prince" on Christmas Day that year.
Why did he write that letter? Snape actually thought about this question seriously, and finally came to a conclusion: maybe it's because people with Prince blood are all sick.
He already carried many burdens on his shoulders, many unspeakable things. Now, he knew that he had unconsciously placed another life on his shoulders.
Many Death Eaters were watching him, seeing him as a potential traitor, ready to kill him at any moment to avenge Voldemort. He couldn't approach her without reason, lest he put her in danger. He could only watch her from afar, watching her struggle to survive, just as he had in Spider's End.
Children are always raised by those who can't stand them, and Snape unknowingly became both a practitioner and a victim of this saying.
He watched her grow up, brought her to Hogwarts, and watched her become a Slytherin just like him. And today, he heard that she might be a werewolf, the werewolf who almost killed him.
Snape vaguely recalled how she had begged him not to go back to the convent when they were in their first year. He had raised her to be him, and he had raised her worse.
He knew she couldn't possibly become a werewolf. He kept an eye on her during school, and Dumbledore had Brown keep an eye on her during the summer vacation. It was a perfect cover-up.
But he couldn't help but think again and again that the madwoman had planted the seeds of trouble before Praris was even born. Children born from the union of werewolves and humans are normal, although werewolf marriages are rare.
But who knows why she killed her husband? Maybe he was bitten by a werewolf? In the end, Snape still chose to call her over.
After hearing Prass's words, Snape regretted calling her. He was always regretting things, regretting things his whole life, over and over again, and this was just one more insignificant regret.
Before leaving, Prarese handed in the courses she was going to drop: Conservation of Magical Creatures and Muggle Studies.
Although she had two fewer classes, she wasn't much more relaxed. She still had one more elective than other students, and she didn't give up on continuing her studies in the courses she dropped.
Praris stretched and stuffed the books one by one into her handbag. Thanks to Stella, the Portuguese cork bag she'd given her could expand freely to fit all of Praris's textbooks.
Of course, it would be better if it were a backpack; Praris is now starting to suspect that he's going to develop uneven shoulders.
As Praris yawned as he walked out of the library, he was nearly bumped into.
