Lupin knew this wasn't the time to think about these things. He should be concerned about the girl's safety, and that's the same attitude he expressed to Snape.
Only Lupin himself knew the deep, hidden longing within him for a normal life.
Snape's first reaction upon hearing this was to sneer, as if he had heard some nonsensical joke, and then he chased him away.
Lupin also found it ridiculous, saying that maybe the little girl was just afraid of the moon, just like the inexplicable horror legends of the moon bat-man among Muggles.
But whether out of concern for his student or some other selfish motive, he decided to go see Snape again.
At the very least, we need to make sure that student is safe, right? He told himself.
Coincidentally, he saw the girl carrying a large pile of parchment as she walked out of Snape's potions office.
After she left, Lupin went into Snape's potions office, where he was met with Snape's sarcastic remarks and learned that the girl was not a werewolf.
This is a good thing, it really is a good thing.
He was just... he was just a little disappointed.
Just like the past two or three decades.
Chapter 50 Quill Pen
Lupin shook off his jumbled thoughts and wanted to see why Snape hadn't arrived yet.
He walked to the door and didn't see Snape, but he saw Harry all alone in the corridor.
Don't overthink it, Lupin!
Cheer up, Harry looks like he needs you!
Let's turn our attention back to Slytherin; the girls returned earlier than Praris had expected.
“I thought you guys would play a little longer,” Praris said, turning around in surprise from the sofa.
Milison hugged a large backpack to his chest and kept rummaging through it: "Filch checked my backpack several times. He thinks I must have hidden something bad in there."
“Actually, there were only snacks inside, which infuriated that Squib,” Daphne said, picking up where Milison left off, her tone full of contempt.
Praris smiled. "He just wants to maintain order at Hogwarts; the students are too naughty."
Prarese witnessed Filch complaining to Snape about the students' unruliness more than once, believing that every student was a potential troublemaker.
Strangely, he would praise Prares and Draco in front of Professor Snape, like an adult socially praising someone else's child, even though Prares and Draco weren't as good as he described.
Stella, Prarese's "politics teacher," commented on this: "Do you really think he's praising you? No, he's praising Professor Snape's teaching skills."
This is what Slytherin students are like: the boys may still be a bit immature, but the fifth and sixth grade girls are quite different.
Both Stella and Miss Farley seemed to have received a special kind of education in their family life—things that school teachers wouldn't teach.
Stella said, "Well, life is a book too. We read a lot of books, but not just in the narrow sense. Some people say you're more like Ravenclaw, and others have said that to me."
"But we all know we are different from Ravenclaws. They thirst for knowledge and believe that intelligent people are superior. But we are not like that. Knowledge is just my weapon, and we are never trapped by it. We learn knowledge to protect ourselves, to reach higher goals, to have a better life, to have more honor, and for endless victories."
“My dear, I heard you say that to Malfoy. That was beautiful. Don’t worry about what others say about you. I’ve never regretted admiring you.”
Stella Stewart was referring to Prarese's comment to him after their defeat in Draco's Quidditch match last semester: "I certainly don't understand what it feels like to lose to someone, because I've never lost."
They were arrogant, but no one thought there was anything wrong with it.
Hogwarts is a school, but the definition of a teacher is never limited to professors.
Milison brought a lot of snacks, and Praris conservatively estimated that she probably wouldn't be able to finish them even by next year.
"What's Hogsmeade like?" Praris asked curiously. "What shops did you visit?"
Praliss had already learned about the shops in Hogsmeade from her classmates' conversations, but she was still happy to hear her friends' stories.
Millison clenched his fist and said excitedly, "I went to Honeydukes's Candy Shop and bought all these things. I also went to a clothing store with Daphne. Look, these are socks I bought for you!"
"Does it have to be like this? Do we really have to wear them?" Praris frowned as she looked at the socks.
These are wool socks, but they are five-toed socks. The socks are colorful and patterned, with each toe featuring a small, magical animal design.
Praris frowned at the Sniffler's head.
“Don’t you think it’s cute?” Milison said, winking.
Praris reluctantly admitted it: "It is cute, and it would be even cuter if I weren't allowed to wear it."
Hahahaha—
The three Slytherin girls burst into laughter, playfully shoving each other: "Pansy chose it!", "Nonsense, Millison paid!", "Daphne said she had a surprise for you!"...
Praris smiled stiffly, "No need to argue, all three of you get a share!"
Finally, Millison grinned and pulled out another pack of socks, saying, "This is fake, this is for you."
Praris clutched the brightly colored five-finger socks in her hand: "I want these too. I'm going to hang them by my bed for Christmas and see if they can trick me into giving away some presents!"
"That's outrageous! You actually tried to lure us in with the socks we bought..."
A few minutes later, the three girls chattered and clamored as they walked toward their dormitory to change out of their dirty clothes so they could attend the Halloween party later.
Praris packed his things, neatly folding the parchment, stuffing the snacks into his bag, and...
A rectangular wooden box tied with a ribbon was placed in front of her.
Praris looked up: "What are you doing?"
"Here you go, take it or leave it."
Draco lay sideways, one hand resting on the top of the armchair back, the other hand bent over to gently cover his mouth, speaking in a very low voice, like a thief.
He didn't look at Praris, and kept glancing towards the door while he spoke.
It's almost time for the banquet, and nobody's come in yet. I wonder what he's looking at.
Are we looking at the air? Wow, this air is so fresh!
Praris raised an eyebrow, reached out and pulled the ribbon, opening the lid of the wooden box.
This is a quill pen gift set. The quill pen features a gorgeous green quill and a copper embossed barrel. It comes with a box of ten nibs, an ink roller, a pen holder, and an ink bottle.
Before knowing the price, Praris could already summarize the characteristics of this gift box in one sentence: its artistic value slightly exceeds its practical value.
"What did you do wrong?" Praris looked at him calmly. "Trying to bribe me?"
Upon hearing this, Draco coughed violently, his ears turning red with anger: "What mistake could I have made! It's all your fault... it's all your fault..."
Draco struggled for a long time but couldn't come up with anything coherent. He, on the other hand, became nervous under Praris's watchful gaze, blinking rapidly.
He took a deep breath and finished speaking in one go: "Well, my dad said, 'Reciprocity is the best policy.' You saved me, so I should thank you. Don't overthink it, I don't need to bribe you! You'd better get rid of that worn-out quill pen you're using!"
“I doubt Mr. Malfoy ever said that,” Praris said, brushing a stray hair behind his ear. “But I’ll take it; I do need a quill.”
Draco sneered, "That's my father, not your father! Do you think you know my father better than I do?"
Praris suppressed a laugh: "Alright then, thank your father for me."
"That's a gift I bought!"
"Oh, okay, thanks by the way."
"You're such a clueless person."
Millison's voice echoed down the hallway leading to the dormitory: "Pansy—you two, hurry up! Aren't we wearing wizard robes? Why are you two still wearing them!"
"Mirison Burst! You uncouth, uncouth man!"
It's Pansy.
The sound of three people's footsteps echoed down the corridor.
Praris stuffed the gift box into his bag and stood up. "Let's go, it's time for the banquet."
The food at the banquet was delicious, and Praris was sure that Barney and his team had put a lot of effort into whetting the students' appetites.
Even Praris, who usually eats very little, ate until she was about 70% full, making her feel a little uncomfortable.
"I'm not eating anymore," Praris said, waving her hand. "I don't want to have insomnia because of indigestion."
Millison mocked her, "I always feel sorry for you guys at times like this, not being able to eat all the good food."
"Go over there and team up with Crabbe and Gore!" Pansy said with a look of disgust. "Let's call it the 'Round Belly Group'."
Praris turned his head, relaxed his neck and shoulders, and caught a glimpse of the faculty and staff seats out of the corner of his eye.
She noticed the professor glancing frequently at Professor Lupin, and Praris remembered that the full moon was approaching in the next few days.
Only in moments like these would she recall what the professor had said in the first lesson. Potions were a magical subject; they enhanced one's reputation, brewed honor, and, to some extent, even prevented death.
Lupin may dislike the professor, which is why he didn't stop the students from affecting the professor's image. But look, even in this situation, he has to rely on the professor, otherwise he wouldn't even be able to stay at the school.
Praris was drawn in by the professor's words and became engrossed in the world of potions until he was allowed to independently research the wolfsbane potion.
Although neither she nor Professor Snape thought the research would be a success, she still cherished the opportunity and had no intention of giving up.
For some reason, Draco was in a great mood today, constantly teasing the chickens and dogs.
He didn't eat properly while eating, and when they finished eating and were about to leave the auditorium, he shouted to Potter across the crowd, "The Dementors are coming!"
Pansy said sadly, "He's like he's on steroids. I wish Jacob could be this happy. He misses me so much, he writes to me every two or three days, he wishes tomorrow were summer vacation."
Jacob is that blond Durmstrang guy; he's sixteen, three years older than Pansy.
According to Pansy, this handsome guy was a bit of a blabbermouth when he was with her; he seemed very composed and mature. But thankfully, he listened to Pansy a lot and did whatever she asked.
When it was time for them to go to school separately, he instantly changed. Every night, he would write sad love letters in bed, put rose petals in the envelopes, and worry that Pansy would have other people at school who didn't love him anymore.
Praris: I don't understand, but I'm deeply shocked. Haven't you two already talked?
To prevent Pansy from changing her mind, Jacob even sent her a photo of himself. Praris took a look and found that he was indeed quite good-looking.
Pansy chuckled: "He must have been fiddling with it for hours! Let's not even talk about the taste of Germans when it comes to clothes."
Pansy said that their upper bodies were black, their hats were black, their scarves were black, their pants were black, their socks were black, and their shoes were black.
“Anyone who didn’t know better would think Grindelwald had been restored to power!” Pansy laughed loudly.
Prarese was shocked, recalling the ghost stories Heidi had read, and it seemed that Grindelwald's team was indeed black.
“But I’ve heard his clothes are quite stylish,” Prarese said.
Although this view is based on Heidi's own explanation, she firmly believes that the characters in novels must be handsome men and beautiful women, even if the author never describes them that way.
