“ABC, you’re disgusting!” Leona looked at Abyss with disdain.
"Now tell me about your Lord of the Fall, what does He look like?" Abyss casually ruffled Leona's hair, his eyes fixed on the priestess who was bound in mid-air.
The priest paused for a moment, then reluctantly began, “My Lord possesses the most wondrous body; He is a dark cloud shrouded in lightning, within which lies endless nothingness. Countless tentacles extend from My Lord, climbing every corner of the world, observing everything. My Lord is the savior of the entire world; whenever My Lord descends, He will bestow true wisdom upon mortals—and you, foolish heretic, will surely be punished by My Lord!”
“What a coincidence, I was also planning to meet your master.” Abyss said with a smile, as he drew a charcoal sketch in a notebook that he had somehow pulled out. It took him a while before he showed it to the priest.
The notebook showed a simple sketch of a cloud, with many crooked lines sticking out from it, looking like a clump of dust swept together.
"This is what it looks like?"
"I'm going to kill you! Aaaaaah!" the priest struggled furiously.
“Don’t bother. Flora’s divine magic is a million times more reliable than you think. Once it’s successfully cast, there’s no way to break free.” Abyss continued, “Tell me about your Fallen Lord’s abilities.”
"My Lord is all-powerful!" the priest roared.
"Then why don't you come out and smash my dog's head?" Abyss shrugged.
"Because my Lord has not yet come, but as soon as my Lord comes..."
"So you don't really understand your master either," Abyss rolled his eyes. "Priesthood, my foot! Is this all you've got? Your master can't even just summon anyone, yet you call him omnipotent?"
"Aaaaaaah!" The priest was furious with the Abyss, but the Chains of Eternity on his body were too powerful. His limbs were completely anchored in the air, unable to move an inch.
The number of cultists surrounding them had grown to thirty or forty, all baring their teeth, their wrinkled faces pressed together, their round eyes seemingly gleaming in the campfire's light. Their expressions were hostile; the priest's roar and the Abyss's insults to the Fallen Lord made them tremble with rage, veins bulging beneath their aged skin.
"Tell me more about your bishop, what's his name, Dalan?" Abyss tucked the notebook into his robes, looking at the priest with a hint of disdain. This guy disappointed him greatly. He had thought that as a priest, he would be someone who knew the Fallen Lords well, but it turned out to be just this level of knowledge; he couldn't even clearly explain the true abilities of the god he served. Flora, also a clergyman, was far more competent than him. Flora could rattle off the abilities and duties of the nine gods in one breath, plus a divine oracle from each deity, without needing to catch her breath or stumble over her words.
“Bishop Dalan is a high-ranking necromancer, but necromancy is only one of his skills. He is invincible, regardless of strength or weakness; he will never lose.” Upon hearing this, the priest suddenly laughed morbidly. “Necromancer, your power may be great, but you don’t understand what ‘absolute’ means. Anyone who fights Lord Dalan will never achieve victory!”
"Are you bragging or telling the truth?" Abis rubbed his chin. "If it's truly absolute invincibility, then I'd really like to try it."
"No matter how much damage Lord Dalan suffers, it will all be reduced to zero!" The priest's face twisted into a ferocious grin beneath the shattered mask. "No matter how powerful you are, this power can only be reduced to zero!"
"I'm starting to look forward to meeting Lord Dalan." Abis glanced at Leona and Flora with a chuckle.
Leona also clenched her fist with interest, feeling excited about the person she was about to encounter who could be called an opponent. Flora didn't show any reaction, but looked at Abyss with some worry.
"Oh, right, there's one more thing I need to say," the priest suddenly lowered his voice.
Abis was somewhat surprised: "Hmm? Then tell me."
I curse you!
The priest let out a sudden roar, followed by screams of agony. The bodies of all the cultists who had surrounded him were rapidly drained, and the priest's imposing frame quickly turned into a dried-up corpse. Abyss was astonished to discover that his soul was also shattering at the same time, meaning he could no longer be resurrected; he had turned his soul into nourishment for some kind of magical ritual!
These cult members show no mercy when killing their own people!
An invisible magical fluctuation instantly spread over a thousand miles away before returning to calm.
"What's he doing? Is he crazy?" Leona asked, completely bewildered.
“Oh, he just cursed us at the cost of dozens of souls. It’s a very high-level curse. If we were ordinary people, we would probably be cursed by now and our strength would be greatly reduced.” Abyss smiled helplessly. “It’s a pity that Flora is here. Her power completely negated the curse, so I didn’t even need to release a magic shield.”
Flora pointed to herself in surprise, seemingly not expecting that simply standing there would have such a significant impact.
Leona tilted her head: "Oh, then it's nothing."
"At the same time, he also sent our location to other people. I reckon that Bishop Dallan will be coming to us soon." Abis yawned. "I have a feeling that this 'invincible' guy will bring something of great value."
"So what do you plan to do?" Leona asked. "If what he said is true, it will be quite troublesome, won't it?"
“I have my own way of doing things,” Abyss said confidently, looking at Leona.
Leona tugged at Abyss's clothes: "Tell me quickly, I'm curious! What's the method?!"
"We'll have to adapt to the situation," Abis replied, scratching his head. "We'll know the specifics of how to fight when he arrives."
"...Are you brain-dead?"
Chapter 47 The Scum Necromancer Who Takes Advantage of Others' Misfortune
Although Princess Helen held no real power in the court, and despite being groomed from the beginning with the intention of a political marriage, she remained proud and confident. She had considered the possibility of failure, but she never expected that when she went to her father, the Emperor, to present her idea yesterday, not a single person in the court filled with ministers and nobles would agree with her.
The normally gentle and refined nobles, in stark contrast to their previous courteous attitude towards her, all declared that her ideas were naive and of no benefit to the country.
Some ministers also advised her that the money should be used for more useful purposes, rather than for something that only benefits those troublemakers.
The supposedly more useful uses were several: to build several magnificent statues of the emperor, allowing more people to see his majestic figure and enhancing his influence; to purchase more weapons and equipment, strengthening the empire's military power to deter and counterbalance the Eastern Empire; and to distribute the money 'fairly' among the nobles, making them even more loyal. Some even considered using the money directly as Princess Helen's dowry, marrying her off to the Eastern Empire to ensure peace for a period of time.
Helen couldn't understand why these people would spend the money in such a wasteful way. Would building a statue truly earn the emperor the people's love? Would buying soldiers a batch of equipment really intimidate the Eastern Empire, which possessed most of the former Mayan Empire's military power? Distributing it to the nobles was even more ridiculous; anyone who could say such a thing was simply a good-for-nothing. As for the suggestion of marrying Princess Helen to the Eastern Empire, she was even more dumbfounded. The Eastern Empire's goal was to unify the entire continent and establish an invincible Mayan Empire; how could they possibly change their minds because of one woman?
She couldn't understand why her supreme father, the emperor, hadn't said a word in her defense when the nobles and ministers gathered to berate her. Her two brothers stood on opposite sides of the court, watching coldly, their eyes even holding a hint of mockery.
Are the three of them just people who do things by listening to others?
Her pride as a princess made it impossible for her to understand this; she couldn't comprehend how a royal family could be so incompetent.
Looking back now, the royal family's influence was a hundred times stronger when my grandmother was still alive—perhaps it was her absolute power that turned the emperor and his two sons into incompetent fools.
She clearly remembered that some ministers who were obsequious to her grandmother when she was alive, like the most loyal dogs, now dared to directly mock the princess's 'womanly kindness' in the court and in front of the emperor.
Helen couldn't remember how she left the court; she was in a state of confusion and didn't know what to do.
Yes, although she was a princess, she was merely a powerless figurehead, destined to become a tool for imperial marriages. It didn't matter which of her incompetent brothers inherited their father's throne; it was none of her concern. She hoped to do something truly good for the empire, but those were just unrealistic fantasies.
Helen spent a sleepless night after returning to her palace. After getting up and quickly washing and dressing, she sat at her desk until noon. She couldn't change anything, and she had even made a bet with the person in the tavern, having to buy him drinks, and she might even be mocked for a while.
She entrusted her personal maid to help her conceal her whereabouts. Now, it was not difficult to enter and leave the chaotic palace. She changed into her previous robe and cloak and went to the tavern they had agreed to meet.
Pushing open the door, the three people were indeed still sitting there. The silver-haired girl was drinking heartily and playing cards with the blonde girl, who had a chubby brown rabbit perched on her lap, seemingly a newly acquired pet. The gray-haired boy sat quietly at a table, eagerly flipping through a notebook.
……
"Welcome!" Dahl greeted him warmly. He clearly remembered that the pretty lady hadn't paid for her drinks yesterday, but since Abys had already paid for them, he hadn't lost a single penny and therefore felt no resentment whatsoever.
At worst, I can just drink the wine for free again; anyway, that gray-haired human was very generous.
Abyss merely glanced at Helen as she entered, his eyes still glued to his notebook: "You're here? How did it go?"
Helen felt wronged; it seemed he knew he would fail, yet he still said such things.
Helen sat down silently beside the Abyss, refusing any wine, and whispered to him, "I have failed."
“I guessed it long ago. Your idea is good, but you are indeed a bit naive,” Abyss said casually, his eyes still fixed on the strange illustrations in the notebook.
Princess Helen almost cried: "I know, I know I'm naive, but please don't laugh at me anymore."
“It’s hard to imagine what kind of education the royal family gave you to make you so naive.” Abis sighed softly. “I don’t want to laugh at you, I just feel it’s a pity. You have a kind heart and the willingness to work hard for your kindness, but unfortunately you don’t understand the nobles, nor do you understand your father.”
"Do you know them better than I do?" Helen tried her best to maintain an elegant expression, but her eyes still revealed obvious dissatisfaction.
“I understand people.” Abyss smiled slightly. “Strictly speaking, it’s not me who understands people, but my companions. They have all been through a lot, and many of them eventually died at the hands of others, so they have a particularly deep understanding of people.”
Helen took a while to process what Abyss was saying.
Abyss casually chanted a couple of incantations, and Helen immediately felt as if the space around her had been shielded by something, bounded by a circle. The light outside dimmed, and the smacking sounds of the tavern owner chewing tobacco and the lute music played by the dwarf on the small stage all disappeared. Having also received magic lessons, she immediately realized that she had entered some kind of barrier.
Now she finally realized who the young man sitting next to her really was.
"You're a necromancer?" Helen exclaimed in shock. "What are you going to do?!"
She wasn't a member of the Vatican, but her upbringing taught her that those who used dark magic were anything but benevolent. They were outlaws who operated outside the rules for years; killing, betrayal, and deception were commonplace for them. Necromancers, in particular, had been relentlessly desecrating the dignity of both the living and the dead since their very birth—even after her grandmother's death, the court physician discovered that she had been subjected to necromancy, though this information hadn't yet been revealed.
“What are you afraid of?” Abyss shrugged. “I just want to help you. Even though you’ve suffered a setback, you must be unwilling to give up, right? Don’t you want the people of the empire to be able to get cheap treatment when they get common diseases? Then all the people will thank you, and your name will be sung about again and again. Do you want that kind of result?”
"You...how can you help me?" Helen wanted to leave immediately, but then she realized she had already fallen into a trap and had no chance to escape, so she forced herself to calm down. "I do want to, but your help can't be free, right? Tell me, what do you want?"
“Oh, you guessed right, I want this.” Abyss pointed.
Helen looked down and saw Abyss pointing at her still-developing breasts.
Because of yesterday's grievances and the fear she felt now, tears immediately streamed down her face. Sure enough, no one who uses dark magic is a good person! Was her purity about to be destroyed by this pale-faced man?
P.S.: Dear readers, I apologize. Something came up yesterday, and by the time I finished dealing with it, it was already very late, and I was exhausted, so I only managed to update one chapter. I apologize to everyone here!
Chapter 48 How to Use the Tool Princess
"Why are you crying? Luckily I blocked it with a barrier, otherwise outsiders would think I was bullying you."
The shameless necromancer even put on a surprised expression. He put the notebook back in his pocket and reached for Helen's body. Helen was startled and quickly took a half step back.
"I...I am the princess of the empire! You cannot insult me like this!" Princess Helen's face flushed, but her eyes remained resolute in her refusal. "I will absolutely not grant your wish!"
"Uh... what's wrong? It's really nothing. I just borrowed it for a bit. You won't lose anything," Abyss explained nonchalantly. "It's really not a big deal."
"Just borrow it for a bit! It's no big deal!" Helen had never suffered such humiliation. She could no longer maintain the elegance of a princess, and tears streamed down her face, ruining her makeup that morning. "What kind of person do you take me for!"
"I know very well that she is the princess of the Western Empire, which is why I came to find you."
"You're shameless! You're despicable! Can't you people who practice dark magic at least have some decency for yourselves? Taking advantage of others like this..."
"Don't say that, there's really no need to cry. Your makeup is ruined, how am I supposed to do good deeds..." Abyss, who had just made an extremely shameless statement, now seemed very innocent. He spread his hands and said, "It's really just a small favor for me. It will be over in a day at most, and at least a few hours."
"Don't you already have her!" Helen suddenly pointed at Flora, who was sitting on the other side, having just learned to play cards and was deep in thought, startling the latter.
“She could certainly do it, but I hope for a better, more natural process… In this Golden Griffin City, you are the ideal candidate…”
"I'd rather die!" Helen firmly clutched her chest. "I'd rather die than suffer this humiliation from you!"
"You have no reason to die, and the dead and the living are the same to me..."
"Can you two explain yourselves clearly?" Leona, who was sitting to the side, couldn't stand the two of them any longer and glanced at them impatiently. "He's referring to your princess crest, the one you wear around your neck. You can use that to mobilize your princess guard."
"Huh?" Helen, who was originally planning to fight the Abyss to the death, was taken aback when she heard this.
“Yeah, did you misunderstand something else?” Abis scratched his head. “If so, I apologize in advance… but I’m still a little curious…”
"Stop asking!" Leona glared fiercely at Abyss.
Helen finally calmed down. The Princess's Golden Emblem was a special piece of jewelry bestowed upon princesses, made of gold, mithril, and cat's-eye stone, engraved with intricate magic circles; it was a tradition of the Minian Empire. In the past, the emperor's children were allowed to have a personal guard of no more than one hundred women. The princess's guard was generally an all-female force, directly under the princess's command, responsible for her safety, and possessing certain powers—as long as it didn't violate the law or involve political purposes, it could command civilians to cooperate. After the Minian Empire split, both the Eastern and Western Empires continued this system.
Although Helen held no official position or real power, as a princess, she had her own personal guard of fifty men. They were extremely loyal, but because Helen had very little to do, they spent their days training in the barracks and rarely went out on missions. Whenever Helen activated the magic circle in the golden emblem, her guard would receive the message, confirm her location, and rush to her location as quickly as possible to receive her orders.
