Settsetse! The Pirate Nemesis
Page 10
I've never heard of this person in the West Blue before—not a pirate, nor a pirate hunter…
Is it possible to win over the navy?
Tina stroked her chin—finding a strong person to join the Navy would also be a great achievement.
While thinking about this, Tina had already driven back to her front door.
The technological development in this world is extremely absurd. On one hand, televisions are not yet widespread, and spears are still used in warfare. On the other hand, missiles, robots, and even buses have already been developed.
Not being very knowledgeable about cars, Tina's pink convertible was actually chosen with the help of Smoker, a fellow graduate of the Naval Academy.
"It's been a while since we last talked. That guy's probably gotten himself into a lot of trouble again... I'm really looking forward to him running into that bastard Sett."
As he muttered to himself, he seemed to be picturing in his mind the scene of the hot-tempered Smoker encountering the arrogant and self-righteous Sett.
Tina smiled, took off the purple sunglasses that were perched on her forehead, and then stepped on the gas and drove away from the Navy branch.
"That bastard should be gone by now, I can finally enjoy my afternoon tea."
As Tina drove, she thought to herself—Sett's rented house, which had been damaged in the previous battle, was still being repaired, so Tina simply rented another house for Sett to stay in temporarily.
It's not that I dislike them, it's just that a lone man and woman with a young girl... living together for an extended period of time inevitably leads to gossip...
With that thought in mind, Tina nodded firmly: "I have absolutely no interest in such a rude man."
A moment later, she arrived at her own front door. Looking at the open door, Tina keenly sensed something was amiss—it was bad luck!
He reversed into the parking space, passing the gate. Through the crack in the door, he saw Sett. A smirk appeared on his face, and then, with a loud bang, he saw Sett.
Damn, I stepped on the accelerator instead of the brake!
"..."
They're all fucking Risetti!
Taking a deep breath, Tina stepped out of the car, which was stuck on the curb, looking annoyed. Considering that it was Settina at home, she didn't even bother to tidy herself up, so she just put on her navy coat and went inside.
As soon as I entered, I saw Robin Seti and an older man I had never seen before having some kind of outdoor barbecue in the middle of the yard.
"Yo, you're back~" Sett lay on the rocking chair looking like he was waiting for a feast.
Looking at that matter-of-fact attitude, Tina couldn't help but purse her lips.
"Oh."
------------
I saw some readers asking if the female lead is Robin, so I'd like to clarify here. I've been eyeing anime beauties for a long time now; I'm a pervert, I want them all.
27. Outdoor barbecue
Tina discovered something terrifying.
She seems to be getting used to Sett's presence!
As evening fell, the family was having an outdoor barbecue. Tina sat in a corner, beer in hand, her gaze heavy with worry—ever since arriving in the West Blue, she had been constantly deceived and misled; the mafia and officials colluded, rendering her martial arts skills useless. Now, Sett's brute force and bluntness were tearing a corner of this dreary existence apart in his unique way.
How long has it been? I've actually gotten somewhat used to this bluntness!
Rubbing her temples, Tina kept reminding herself to stay vigilant—no matter what, Sett was still an undocumented immigrant. And Robin was a bona fide wanted criminal.
Just as Tina was still thinking, Sett, who was holding a large barrel of beer, spoke with a voice full of joy and pride.
"Mmm! That's the taste!! Fujitora! Let's fight again!!!"
"No, no." Fujitora chuckled and shook his head at Sett's invitation. "A cool breeze, a bright moon, fine wine and delicious food... I don't have the same magnanimous mood as you, Lord Sett. A little drink is enough for me."
He was still wearing a purple kimono-yukata. However, compared to before, this outfit was inevitably somewhat tattered. It wasn't that Fujitora was unkempt or anything. It was simply that Sett had torn this last piece of clothing during their fight.
Robin was frantically preparing the food. This was the first time Sett had seen Robin's Devil Fruit ability. If it could be used in close combat, it would be incredibly powerful. But unfortunately, due to her long period of wandering and malnutrition, Robin was simply unable to withstand the level of training Sett was putting her through.
However, since Robin is his future housekeeper, there's no reason for her to be weak, so Sett has already started thinking about how to make Robin stronger.
For example...
such as……
Forget it.
Sett took another swig of beer. Thinking was too difficult. He'd just ask Tina how the Navy trained.
Unlike Sett's ruggedness, Fujitora, though rough in appearance, possessed an exceptionally calm demeanor, perhaps due to his blindness. Even his favorite sake was bland and unpalatable to Sett.
On the table in front of him was a grilled saury, seasoned only with a little salt. Even so, Fujitora still happily used his chopsticks to pick up small pieces of fish, put them in his mouth, and sipped his clear, watery sake by himself.
Raising his head, even though he was blind, Fujitora was able to guess some things after sensing Robin's Devil Fruit ability through his Observation Haki, no matter how slow his reaction was.
"Your little agent, if I'm not mistaken, should be the legendary devil's child, right?"
Upon hearing this, Robin paused slightly in her grilling. Although some time had passed, hearing such a form of address still involuntarily brought back memories of those turbulent times.
But before Robin could even grieve, Sett's straightforward voice rang out from the side: "That's right! But what kind of demon child is she? When I saved her, I only smashed a few heads off and she was too scared to move."
"It's not a matter of a few heads." Hearing Sett's words, Robin felt inexplicably relieved. But she still couldn't help but complain, "You killed a slave ship and a Walker family executive, and several others were broken in half. The whole deck was covered in corpses and flesh, and many people couldn't help but vomit."
"Are there that many?" Sett tilted his head, then said nonchalantly, "But it doesn't matter anyway, there's no point in fighting those rubbish."
“Slave ships?” Fujitora nodded in agreement upon hearing Sett’s words. “Human trafficking is indeed very common in the West Blue… I’ve even met a few people who wanted to sell me as a slave too.”
Upon hearing this, Sett chuckled and maliciously raised his beer bottle: "Tina, as a Marine, don't you have anything to say?"
"I have nothing to say to you, you bastard!"
Tina had initially taken it as just a story, but upon hearing Sett's ill-intentioned words, her expression visibly darkened. She then said through gritted teeth, "Every official here should be shot. They probably take countless bribes from the Mafia—the biggest loss the Mafia has suffered since I took office is because of your battle this morning..."
Upon hearing this, Sett curled his lip: "What a pathetic world government."
He didn't take it to heart, Sett chug down the bottle of beer in his hand, then looked at Fujitora beside him, burped, and asked with bright eyes, "So, how about becoming my little brother!"
Hearing Sett's words, Fujitora was somewhat helpless; "Why are you so keen on taking me as your subordinate?"
28·Friends
Why should I take you on as my subordinate?
When questioned by Fujitora, Sett made no attempt to hide his ambition.
"This world is so wonderful, isn't it?!" Sett gripped the bottle, a few drops of amber liquor still clinging to his lips. He casually wiped them away with his shirt and declared loudly, "Oppression, darkness, and injustice are everywhere! It's practically paradise! Anyone with power can get whatever they want! Incompetent governments, a sea rife with filth! Now that I'm here, how can I possibly turn a blind eye!"
"Those disgusting rules are better left for me to make myself!"
"..."
Upon hearing Sett's arrogant words, Fujitora remained silent for a moment before turning his gaze to Tina: "You're a Marine, don't you have anything to say?"
"You can't expect anything good to come out of a dog's mouth." In response to Fujitora's question, Tina, her face slightly flushed from the alcohol, said nonchalantly, "I'm not surprised at all that such a bastard would say something like that."
"But you're in the navy..."
"So what if it's the Navy?" Perhaps because she'd had a few drinks, Tina was a bit tipsy. Hearing the question, she retorted irritably, "Everyone knows casinos are Mafia property, but as soon as I took action, I was blocked at every level. Even those Navy soldiers don't obey my orders... They're not even as good as that bastard Sett, who openly wrecked most of the place and they didn't dare utter a sound!"
Seeing that Tina was also getting a little carried away, Fujitora felt helpless, while Sett chuckled beside him; "She's probably been suppressing her feelings for a long time, being driven crazy by those bureaucrats~"
"Something like 'the truth comes out when one is drunk'?" Holding a bowl of sake, Fujitora sighed. In a sense, officers like Tina, dispatched from the Navy Headquarters, were among the least free.
The Grand Line is too chaotic, and the four seas are constantly entangled with vested interests. It can be said that no matter what you do, if interests are involved, it becomes extremely difficult. Tina is clearly a very responsible person, and staying in a place like Antuo Island must be making her very restless.
"Well? I've already told you so much! Are you interested in becoming my underling?"
"Why does he have to be a subordinate?" Fujitora's face still showed helplessness, but there wasn't much rejection in his words. Although rough, after just one interaction, Fujitora was certain that Sett wasn't the kind of person who was deeply scheming. This straightforwardness was reflected directly in the depths of Fujitora's heart through his Observation Haki.
Even if you don't like this kind of rough but straightforward guy, you won't hate him—at least, he's the kind of person who doesn't even bother with underhanded tricks.
If you can get used to it, you can trust your back with peace of mind.
But in the end, Sett only looks to be in his early twenties. Fujitora, on the other hand, is well into his thirties, more than old enough to be Sett's uncle. Yet he calls him "little brother" so casually; this guy really doesn't care what others think.
"Because I'm going to be the boss!" Sett took the beer Robin handed him and chugged it down. "If there's a boss, there have to be subordinates! Otherwise, wouldn't I be a lone commander?!"
"...That's truly an irrefutable reason." Fujitora shook his head with a sigh.
Everyone understands the principle that there are big brothers and little brothers. But someone like Sett, who puts it out of the blue and doesn't even bother to use the word "cadre," is truly the first person in history... at least the first one Fujitora has ever encountered.
“I have no intention of joining any organization.” Looking at the bright moon in the sky, Fujitora said, “I want to travel the Grand Line and see what stories have happened there… I will remember this meal and drink with gratitude. Please feel free to ask if you need anything in the future.”
Did Sett hear Fujitora's words? Sett wasn't angry; instead, he nodded in agreement. "You're right! A real man should at least travel the world and make his way in it a few times, no matter what! Since you're not joining, I won't force you. Anyway, you'll definitely come back someday!"
"..." Upon hearing this, Fujitora remained silent for a moment before saying with a somewhat strange expression, "Lord Sett is so certain that I will join your ranks?"
“Of course!” Sett said matter-of-factly; “I didn’t expect to make you my underling with just a few words. Since that’s the case, let’s just consider it an introduction. If you’re going to be the big brother, you need to find a few people to witness it!”
Looking at Sett, who showed no resentment at his refusal, Fujitora couldn't help but tilt his head. It was a pity that his eyes had been blind for so long; even with his Observation Haki, which could roughly outline objects, he couldn't capture the details.
"It is truly a pity that I cannot witness your heroic bearing."
As he spoke, Fujitora shook his head with some regret and sat down on the ground.
"Then I wonder if Fujitora is qualified to be your friend?"
“Of course.” Sett sprawled out in the rocking chair, legs crossed. “We’ve already had our drinks, haven’t we?!”
29. System Rewards - Battleband
Fujitora is very strong, a fact that Sett knows all too well... As the first character to always build Sett's passive trait "Overlord," and using Tina as a reference, Fujitora is definitely one of the strongest characters in the small West Blue... Considering he's still in his prime, he will inevitably become stronger in the future.
Sett would never let go of someone who was willing to fight him, suited his tastes, and had a likable personality.
Although Fujitora politely declined, Sett wasn't angry—strong people are bound to have their little tempers. As for the idea that if he couldn't have it, he would destroy it, Sett didn't even consider it.
In Sett's view, only weak people who believe others will threaten them in the future think that way—and Sett never believes he will lose. Not now, and not in the future!
Sensing Sett's arrogance, which was hard to dislike, Fujitora nodded and smiled – what was initially thought to be a somewhat dull and tedious journey to the West Blue now seemed to have a unique charm.
As night fell, young Robin went to bed early to prepare for tomorrow's schedule. Fujitora spent the night on the sofa in a kimono or yukata, while Sett carried the drunken Tina back to her bed and then went outside to eat and drink until he fell asleep.
The next day, Sett opened his eyes to the blinding sunlight. On the table in front of him was an envelope left by Fujitora; he glanced at it—a simple farewell. Without giving it a second thought, Sett tossed it into the nearby trash can after reading it.
He wasn't particularly interested in life or death, since they would meet again sooner or later anyway. And this act of leaving without saying goodbye suited Sett's tastes perfectly—he never bothered with corny farewells.
However, to be fair, he was still all alone.
Sett thought to himself—as of now, apart from Robin, he didn't even have a single follower. Even those underground boxers knew to form a gang; his current situation, all alone, was rather pathetic.
