After the two ships anchored, a dark-skinned man stepped off one of them and, before he even got close, grinned at Lady Liz, revealing a mouthful of rotten teeth.
Given the level of development in this world, people who make a living at sea for a long time will inevitably develop all sorts of strange and unusual ailments.
"Madam, why are you here alone? Where are the others?" the man with rotten teeth asked, glancing at Su Mo and Arno with a questioning look.
“The others are gone,” Lady Liz sighed, her voice low and somber.
Big Rotten Teeth trembled slightly, almost melting in his heart, and nearly didn't even hear what Lady Liz said.
"By the way, are any of your people on the ship?" Su Mo suddenly asked.
“Part of it is,” Mrs. Liz replied.
"Then lead the way. We need to leave some people behind to steer the boat." Su Mo couldn't take a step forward.
"You guys..." Big Rotten Tooth only realized something was wrong at this moment, and reached for his waist, where there was a sharp knife.
But just as his hand touched the hilt of the knife, Arnold's fist slammed into his head.
The powerful force caused a burst of blood to erupt in mid-air.
"I mean, can't you be a little more polite? The dinner knife you used at the beginning was much better," Su Mo said.
"Hmm, that makes sense." Arno casually flicked his wrist, and from who knows where he pulled out several kitchen knives, which transformed into streaks of light and flew towards the few people who had just rushed off the ship.
Chapter 18 The Correct Way to Ask for Directions
The ensuing battle ended very smoothly, just as Su Mo had expected.
There weren't many people on these two ships, and the sailors couldn't possibly be wearing any armor. Facing Arno, who was both incredibly strong and unkillable, and Seven Deadly Sins, who were neither particularly strong nor fast, they were essentially powerless to resist.
Su Mo did not make a move, but that did not mean he had nothing to do.
He had been observing the battle, wanting to know how far his strength had come in this world.
Judging from the current situation, with about fifty men, it's impossible for any enemy without armor to stop his advance.
But what if the number of people increases? What if it increases to one hundred or two hundred, and then there are weapons like crossbows, spears, and armor? What would that situation be like?
After the battle, only a few of Lady Liss's people were left to operate the ship, along with the "sacrifices" that had been transported there. The rest were all thrown into the cold, dark sea.
Su Mo took advantage of the fact that the souls of the dead had not completely dissipated before absorbing a portion of them as a reserve of life force.
“These people are no different from people on Earth. They don’t have any special powers and can only be used as life force,” Su Mo thought to himself. “It seems that to improve my strength, I still need to find some special souls.”
Su Mo's gaze swept over the backs of Seven Sins and Arno.
Arno seemed to sense something, turned around, glanced at Su Mo, and then walked away.
And Seven Sins... that shameless guy came running over like a puppy: "What do you need, Daddy?"
"Please don't use 'Dad' as a verbal tic, okay?" Su Mo's lips twitched.
This guy has a habit of calling everyone "Dad," which has made the people on the island allergic to the word "Dad" and feel uncomfortable whenever they hear it.
“Yes, Grandpa.” Seven Sins readily accepted the advice.
"...Stay here and keep an eye on them. Make sure nothing goes wrong." Su Mo shook his head and turned to walk towards the other side of the island.
Mrs. Liz naturally stayed behind, appealing to the emotions and reasoning with her people to ensure they wouldn't harbor any strange thoughts in the coming period, as she still needed them to steer the ship.
The next morning, while it was still dark, a loud noise was heard over the island.
The black tower that had stood in the center of the small island collapsed with a crash, turning into a pile of ruins, under the gratifying gazes of Tranton and the others.
"What a pity." Su Mo carried a box on his back that was almost as big as a person, which naturally contained the legendary "weapon from hell".
As for his car, which should have been quite useful in this world, since it appeared directly in a room at the bottom of the tower and couldn't be driven out, it could only be buried along with the tower when it collapsed.
Amidst the smoke and dust, Arno's tall figure emerged, slightly out of breath: "Your thing is pretty good."
Demolishing a tall tower is no easy task. It took Arno's relentless attacks, along with several grenades provided by Su Mo, to finally shatter the load-bearing walls and turn the tower into the ruins before us.
"It's alright," Su Mo said casually.
"Alright, let's go," Tranton said. The most valuable thing on the island was this tower; the houses in other places weren't that valuable.
Tranton had no interest whatsoever.
Destroying this tower would be a huge loss for the people behind the island, and rebuilding a similar place would become extremely difficult. It's like getting revenge in advance.
Putting everything else aside, it's hard to find another person like Joyce in the entire empire.
Tranton, Benson, and Martin all wore rare smiles—the kind of genuine smiles, not sneers.
The ship sailed at sea for ten days before another vast landmass appeared before them. In a sense, this landmass was the true territory of the British Empire.
Most of those isolated islands overseas were uninhabited desert islands, while a small number were pirate strongholds. These pirates lived on the islands for a long time, making a living by plundering small fishing villages and fishermen, and had a very bad reputation in the British Empire.
They are among the most disliked groups. Another group, cough cough, consists of some minor nobles.
This is a closed country, with only the vast ocean beyond its borders. There are no external enemies—at least not yet. The small armies in the various noble territories are less for preventing external enemies and more for preventing surprise attacks from other nobles and internal strife within the empire.
In such a closed environment, those who want to climb the social ladder are naturally trampled underfoot by their own people. The great nobles are alright, after all, they have existed for decades or even centuries, and all the spoils and benefits have already been divided up, so they don't need to rely on exploiting the people to continue to grow stronger.
Even if they wanted to do so, they were stopped by other similar noble families.
What do you want to do to strengthen your family's power? Do you intend to overthrow the royal family?
Island nations maintain a delicate balance.
The lesser nobles are different; they want to climb up the social ladder at all costs, and the only people they want to exploit are the lower classes.
Benson and Martin's lives in the British Empire were unlikely to be good; they could barely make ends meet. Some people couldn't even survive on basic necessities and had to sell themselves to others, becoming slaves. They and their descendants lost their freedom, forever being used by others until death.
Well, the only good thing is that you won't have to live the kind of life of hunger and cold you used to. If you sell to a decent owner, at least you'll be able to eat your fill and stay warm.
Having encountered a terrible owner is best left unsaid.
"Where is this place?"
After finding a place that was barely passable to dock, the group disembarked and immediately discovered a rather serious problem: they were lost!
Upon returning to the British Empire, they certainly could not choose to stay at the ports where their ships had previously docked, as that would be tantamount to plunging directly into the enemy's arms.
Although he had two plus seven demons as secret weapons, for the sake of safety, Tranton still chose to find a deserted and extremely secluded place to land.
Then, here comes the problem.
Trandon, a nobleman, had traveled between his fiefdom and the royal city since childhood and was not familiar with other parts of the British Empire.
Needless to say, Martin and the other former sacrificial victims didn't even leave their own small towns or villages during their limited time, let alone the fact that they hadn't even been able to do so.
Su Mo and the other two demons are skipped.
The only somewhat reliable ones are Mrs. Liz and her people.
However, there is another problem: although this "miniature continent" or large island is said to belong to the British Empire, the area actually occupied by the British Empire is only two-thirds of the entire island, while the other third is a "development zone".
To be on the safe side, the sailors followed Tranton's orders and took a very long detour, almost sailing to the very edge of the British Empire.
Even people like Lady Liz wouldn't pass through such a remote area.
"Sebastian, you handle this." Tranton glanced at the bewildered others and said directly to Su Mo.
"...Do you really think you're my all-powerful butler?" Su Mo glanced at Tranton and muttered to himself.
However, the master's orders must still be obeyed. Su Mo turned his head slightly and said to the others with a serious expression, "Step back."
Everyone was visibly shaken and took several steps back—except for Arno, the demon. As for Seven Sins, that guy didn't consider himself a demon at all and acted as if he valued his reputation more than anyone else.
Under the expectant gazes of a group of people behind him, Su Mo placed the box on the ground, opened it, and took out the legendary weapon from hell.
"This thing can also locate?" Arno asked.
“No,” Su Mo said.
"Then?" Before Arno could finish speaking, he was interrupted by a loud gunshot.
Su Mo held the gun upright, pointing the muzzle towards the sky, and pulled the trigger.
This action has a more formal and unified name, called "mingqiang yisi," which is usually used for warning.
Even after a magazine was emptied, the continuous gunfire still filled everyone's ears.
"Alright, if there are people nearby, we've successfully attracted their attention." Su Mo casually tossed the gun aside. He had only brought a small number of bullets with him, and now that they were all fired, the gun was just a fire poker, so he simply threw it away.
As for what impact this weapon, which transcends this world and era, will have on this world, Su Mo doesn't care at all.
Are you kidding me? We already have demons, why would we care about a gun?
Tranton felt his cheeks twitching, and he forced out two sentences through gritted teeth: "This is your solution? What if no one's around?"
"Then let's try again in another place." Su Mo said matter-of-factly, showing no concern whatsoever for these precious weapons.
But his lack of concern doesn't mean Tranton isn't concerned. Having tested the power of firearms, he knows very well what these weapons, similar to flintlock pistols but infinitely more powerful—weapons from hell—represent.
"Someone's coming."
Just then, Arno suddenly spoke up.
“Young Master, you must trust your butler. I’m a professional,” Su Mo said to Tranton.
"It's just a coincidence, okay! It's just a coincidence, okay!" Tranton really wanted to roar at Su Mo.
However, in front of others, he had to maintain the dignity of a superior and never smile. He was already easily looked down upon because of his young age, and he needed to appear even more cold and harsh to gain their respect.
Tranton didn't want to become someone who could only rely on demons.
Chapter Nineteen: You have successfully caught my attention.
After the gunshots, some chaotic footsteps approached, accompanied by a few shouts.
Soon, seventeen or eighteen figures appeared in the dense forest not far away.
The leader was tall and looked to be on par with Arnold, the burly man.
However, this man's body width is estimated to be twice that of Arnold. Arnold appears strong and robust, while this man looks fat.
He had messy hair and wore what was probably the rusty armor his grandfather had worn—as for why he wasn't wearing it, it was impossible for someone of his size to fit into armor that was clearly designed for a normal person.
For this man, the breastplate probably served the same purpose as a breast protector.
The man held a huge spiked club in his hand, and the words "I'm not a good person" were written all over his face. The people behind him were of different heights and weights, and the words "The worst underlings of the bad guy" were written all over their faces.
